Stepgar Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Adam has declared himself well and truly IN. I think this is great news however, is he a luxury player? Better suitedto home games mostly and maybe away games where the pitches are good like SMS? What are your thoughts?
smithy Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 As I said on another thread - MoM today, worked his bags off, scored a great goal. Has the potential to be a top player, reminds me of a young Gerrard.
Doctoroncall Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Good news... AL is an intelligent footballer, plenty of skill and good passer. Needs to work on his shooting the most! Pardew will make him into a decent prospect as long as he puts in the graft.
CanadaSaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Lallana will become a lot more than a decent prospect IMO. But he needs better guidance and a clearer idea of how he fits into a decent system, both of which he'll get under Pardew. What he didn't need was being thrown in at the deep end within a dysfunctional system and left to figure it out for himself, which is what happened all too often last year.
St.Jeweller Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Hopefully this goal will give him confidence and a chance to settle this season,Don't know where this 'Linley' chap signed from though! (lol)
Arizona Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I'd have him as a supporting striker playing off John. I think they'd complement each other pretty well, assuming Lallana can blow the spider's webs of his shooting boots. Not a winger IMO. Flattered to deceive a lot last season. A Bit Hammill-esq at times.

Chez Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 he's a central player, someone that needs the ball all the time. In my opinion he has the type of quality that justifies building a side around him. I keep saying it, the lad is top class and couldn't believe some of the bull**** opinons posted on here this summer.

Completely agree with this. I'd have him as a supporting striker playing off John. I think they'd complement each other pretty well, assuming Lallana can blow the spider's webs of his shooting boots. Not a winger IMO. Flattered to deceive a lot last season. A Bit Hammill-esq at times. And this. I think given a clear, but free role (if that makes sense) I think he could be a really creative link between midfield and the strikers. The sort of role that Sheringham played later in his career - although AL's a very different player to Sheringham.

A Bit Hammill-esq at times. I agree with this 100%. He has loads of talent. Against Ajax he did this brilliant little trick to lay the ball off, then backheeled it back when he received it again. But this was just outside his own area, so it's kinda pointless at best, dangerous at worst. He has to be further up the pitch, and in the centre. But maybe midfield at home, behind the striker in a 4-4-1-1 away.

Clifford Nelson Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 If you read the posts above you will see how many is trying to fit Lallana into a system. He hasn't got the maturity for a central domineering role yet, nor is he a striker, and incidentally Stern looks better playing off a targetman like Paterson than carrying the role himself. The same can be said for Rasiak. Play Lallana on the right, but expect him do to other things than a traditional winger, and then occasionally he will be a bit frustrating when things don't come off. In a season or two he might be right for a central role, but in the proverbial "hole" with a midfield three, I guess. I'm sure that Pardew knows that he has got a real talent on his hands. One who needs guidance and playing time.

Better suitedto home games mostly and maybe away games where the pitches are good like SMS? What are your thoughts? It does seem that AP has earmarked him for that attcking midfield role that we love so much. Shades of the young Steve Williams, (who had a bit of an attitude) was was never a " problem child " as such. A flowing style of play and a self-assurance (some said arrogance) that was so exciting to watch. SW had the joy of playing alongside his former Arsenal hero Alan Ball, and that helped make him the class player he later became. If we find a suitable midfield partner for Adam to play off, we'll do well.

Get rid of him and Saganowski and bring in someone who wants to play. Raz was hungry and up for it against Hearts. He had looked awful up until then, missing some absolute sitters at Totton etc. Maybe he was pimping himself, or maybe he genuinely wants the shirt. Let's hope it's the latter, and Pards can get the best out of him.
NickG Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 he is talented but needs to find a position to excel at
