Eddie Lizzard Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Clearly playing for a move today I thought. Sadly I have to agree. That is the best performance I've seen him put in since the game before he went out on loan to Bolton. I'd love him to stay though. He can score goals and has the knack of putting himself in the right place at the right time.
musesaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 well well well those who constantly slate him...what do you think now.. rasiak is our best striker and IF he stays will remain so he never runs around alot, he looks like he is lazy BUT his is an expert goal poacher and lehthal in the box especially in league 1 God I hope we keep him In League 1 he will score bucket loads - watched him drift inside the defenders today to score both his first and second goals - quite the best we've got for positional play up front
Teddy Nutkins Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I really hope Greg stays with us.I am impressed at the way he has lost weight, looks as though he has worked hard in training. This man will score for fun in this league, i am sure.Matt Patterson looked comfortable with him as well.I think Alan Pardew will be delighted if he stays, here is hoping.
Cabrone Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I really hope Raz stays. Who cares if he doesn't run around a lot - he will score 25+ in this league and that is all that counts when you are paid to score goals.
alpine_saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I find the crusade some people have against Rasiak, and have had for several seasons now, absolutely ridiculous. I really would like to know who some of these self-appointed "experts" reckon we could get in to replace him..
greg_hill Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I pray we keep him but I fear his latest efforts may be designed to put him in the shop window. Pardew's post match comments seem to confirm this.
St_Tel49 Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Beattie lazy? I have never seen a harder working centre-forward apart perhaps from Rooney. Agreed
greg_hill Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 We Saints fans never seem to rate our strikers - McGoldrick runs back to recieve the ball to feet and get things going and when he's not the furthest forward when we do attack we slate him Rasiak keeps his position always giving us a target to aim at and some hold-up play and when we don't have the ball and can't get it past the midfield or the other team is in posession and he doesn't run around - we slate him If you wanna play for Saints - don't play up front. Yep. I myself recall giving Kevin Davies stick in his first few games. Gordon Watson got a lot of stick early on but eventually became a fan favourite. Neil Shipperly took a lot of flak. Crouch got lots of criticism in his early games for Saints, too.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Maybe Rasiak doesnt want to play in League 1 That's it in a nutshell I reckon. And on his wages, the club will let him go, if they can find a buyer. Did well today, but we could get 2 strikers about as good on Bosmans for what he is getting paid IMO.

That bloody Channon - get shot of him, he's rubbish. and as for that Ron Davies, well don't get me started!
Fan The Flames Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 He's is 1 goal every 2 games, pretty good stats and given a run in the side and pair him up with the right strike partner and he should do well. A good old fashioned strike partnership would be fun this season. People always slagged Oakley, Fernandes and Telfer unfairly as well, nevermind as long as the manager is happy.
Fan The Flames Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Beattie lazy? I have never seen a harder working centre-forward apart perhaps from Rooney. I think the only thing that could be leveled at Beattie was lack of natural talent. Which he made up with effort on the training and match pitch.
Pat from Poole Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Beattie lazy? I have never seen a harder working centre-forward apart perhaps from Rooney. I was a big Beattie fan, but in my time watching Saints I'd say that Shearer and Ormerod had a higher workrate than him.

I agree, if Rasiak stays and we build the attack around him (to an extent) then he will get us goals. I was pleased that the reports suggest he linked up well with Lallana.
Bailey Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Would be more than happy if Rasiak stayed but I just can't see it. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost him towards the end of the transfer window as clubs may make a late move for him after failing to secure their preferred transfer targets.
SaintRichmond Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 well well well those who constantly slate him...what do you think now.. rasiak is our best striker and IF he stays will remain so he never runs around alot, he looks like he is lazy BUT his is an expert goal poacher and lehthal in the box especially in league 1 Yes, he is our best option as Goal poacher, especially in Div 1 IMHO though, the onlt way we will keep him is if every other Team Does not, or Will not, match his financial demands Expensive he may be, but I doubt if SFC would, or could recruit an adequate Man for Man replacement, in terms of Goal potential I think it essential that he stays
SaintRichmond Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 That's it in a nutshell I reckon. And on his wages, the club will let him go, if they can find a buyer. Did well today, but we could get 2 strikers about as good on Bosmans for what he is getting paid IMO. Perhaps so .... but IMHO, the Two we get would NOT collectively match the goal tally that Rasiak will get ....... and it is GOALS that winnmatches, generate interest, attract better crowds, increase Revenue coming in etc etc Selling Rasiak would be a Short Sighted appraovh IMHO, and would go against our supposed New positive View of the future
SaintRichmond Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 If he wants to go why are we playing him? Good point .........This close to the start of the League campaign, you play what is most likely your League line up surely .... ?? No point in Rasiak scoring loads in friendlies .... if he is NOT going to be around when it really matters ... ie League Games:cool:
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 He's is 1 goal every 2 games, pretty good stats ...... Where are you getting that from ? No point in Rasiak scoring loads in friendlies .... if he is NOT going to be around when it really matters ... ie League Games:cool: But he probably will be around......IF he consistently put the effort in people wouldn't be poles apart on their views on him.......he is the sort of player that is liked or disliked because of his demeanour and seemingly lacklustre wanderings around the pitch.......IF he were to put the effort in then I agree he may be worth keeping, but I'm not sure his heart is here, and if so then lets get him off the wage bill and get a couple of options in......frankly I think he thinks he is better than he is!!

.comsaint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Whilst staying at a very posh London hotel the other week - I got talking to a Polish guy about football - Saints and our Polish players, etc - as you do. On the subject of Rasiak - he said to me: "Do you know what we call him back home in Poland? We call him 'The Woodman'...because he's like a tree - he never moves". Can't argue with that I 'spose!

Frank's cousin Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Rasiak is just one of those players who because of his languid style and body language, always has fans questioning commitment and effort - its just his style really. Add to this his undoubted desire for a move and its obvious he will get fans backs up. Its down to management and AP in particulra yto determine if he wants him and work on convincing Greg to stay and fight for the team, BUt if he is determined to move so be it , shame, but its best to clear out those who dont want to stay really.

Before that Burley hardly played him if I remember correctly. So his career has hardly blossomed here

rallyboy Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Not many have doubted his ability to finish in the box, it's just whether he can be arsed to get in there. If he wants to play then we should be happy to pay his huge wages as he will score 25 goals and he will for the first time in a while offer value for money. Then again, if he can't be bothered he can naff orf. He's failed in the Prem, not entirely set the world alight in the CCC, maybe like others with delusions of grandeur he needs a reality check of where his skill level is. Classic case is BWP who might have been ideal for us down in the third tier but he thinks he should be playing Champion's Lge.
SaintRichmond Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_5454717,00.html I DON'T GET IT ???????????? According to the Sky article ........ Rasiak was prepared to take a "Pay Cut" ( if he signed for other Teams) .... ......... so why can't he take a pay cut for US ... Surely Pardew can explore that avenue .... Lazy or not, if he goes, then so does at least 80% of our goalscoring potential BOSMAN FREEBIES will NOT be the same, IMHO PS, IF Rasiak is on the way out, why play him in the build up games to the start of the League campaign ..... SILLY
RonManager Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I noticed that when he came on against Hearts, Pardew made a point of shaking his hand and speaking pointedly to him. When he came off he was laughing, clapping the crowd and had his arm round Paterson's shoulder. Could any of this be remotely meaningful?
Charlie Wayman Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 It is possible that; 1. Gregor Rasiak has transformed himself overnight from a disinterested bystander into a world-class striker who can score goals for fun. 2. AP has such an inspirational and articulated approach to player motivation that within 5 days of his arrival on the training ground, the proverbial 'arm round the shoulder' has magically altered the personality of this once recalcitrant egocentric 3. With a revised system of play that prevents the mid-field from retreating to their own 18-yard box every time their opponents get the ball, there is now less of a gap to the strikers so attacks can have substance and purpose. You take your choice but I'm backing the last of these, that players like Rasiak are more the victims or profiteers of the system of play they are in. Of course his crowning ability is to score goals in the manner of the two he netted on Saturday not to run about getting sweaty and knackered like a headless chicken. They were not gifts to a lazy sod but the result of getting balls with pace and height into the 6 yard box from wide angles so that the striker had at least a half decent chance to make something of them ... and he did! Don't under rate this guy because of past experience. No striker on earth is better than the system he plays in. Did he do a better job than John on Saturday? Statistically, Yes but as Saints were totally all at sea in the first half, it is not really a fair comparison as Rasiak would have struggled as well. Sometimes it's better to be a sub when things have settled down a bit.

Alanh Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Rasiak looked interested on Saturday, in fact more interested than I have seen him look in a Saints shirt for ages. It would be great to be able to keep him but judging by the interview with Pardew it looks like GR would prefer not to be in L1 next season. I tend to agree that he was playing for a move to some extent. I can't agree with SaintRichmond's idea that we must have GR if we are going to score goals. 6 players scored more than 20 goals in L1 last season so it must be possible for us to find someone to fill GR's boots. If as reported he doesn't fancy the idea of L1 I'd rather have someone who does and will give us 100%, and with the sort of fee GR will command we should be able to pay for a decent replacement.
the saint in winchester Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I don't care if he's as lazy as Beattie, I don't care if he looks (or even IS) slow. As long as he scores, I want him in the team. Thanks for your comment, Mr Pardew. :-)
Gorgiesaint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 It is possible that; 1. Gregor Rasiak has transformed himself overnight from a disinterested bystander into a world-class striker who can score goals for fun. It is just one game but..... 2. AP has such an inspirational and articulated approach to player motivation that within 5 days of his arrival on the training ground, the proverbial 'arm round the shoulder' has magically altered the personality of this once recalcitrant egocentric Or maybe he just has a manager now who manages properly 3. With a revised system of play that prevents the mid-field from retreating to their own 18-yard box every time their opponents get the ball, there is now less of a gap to the strikers so attacks can have substance and purpose. Certainly the formation appears to have suited Rasiak better than one-up we played last season IMO, its a case of 2 & 3 possibly causing 1. He now has a manager who will actually manage the team & install some discipline, both on & off the field. Combined with playing a formation that suits his style of play, and possibly a feeling that he is wanted (which would be a first for about 2 years), I would expect his performances to improve. I noticed that when he came on against Hearts, Pardew made a point of shaking his hand and speaking pointedly to him. When he came off he was laughing, clapping the crowd and had his arm round Paterson's shoulder. Could any of this be remotely meaningful? Interesting, and a contrast to his apparant dis-interest at training on Monday when Pilchards was reporting on AP's first session. If he enjoying it again then maybe he will be inclined to stay - after all, I seem to remember someone commenting on a thread at the end of last season saying he was settled in the area (?).
Cabrone Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I'd try everything to keep him as we'd need 2 players to replace his goal scoring power (IMO), probably a striker + a goal scoring midfielder. Keeping Rasiak would be as big a coup as keeping KD and would be a big statement of intent. Of course if he really wants to go then that's life but while he's here we should try everything to keep him.
RonManager Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Yes, he's fallen in love with Paterson ........ I was wondering how long it would take.....
eurosaint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 If Saints are prepared to fund his current contract I cannot see any personal benefit to him moving to a CCC club (like Watford for example) ! Surely he will play more games and score more goals with us in Lge 1 ??? No chance in the Prem for him now, so what's the big deal playing one league up, particularly if you become a squad player rather than a regular ????
eurosaint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 If he wants to go why are we playing him?[/QUOTE] Pardew out !
Chez Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 He looked a class above today. he looked the same in the Ajaz game as well IMO. Obviously I'm only referring to the Saints players on the day.
Chez Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I noticed that when he came on against Hearts, Pardew made a point of shaking his hand and speaking pointedly to him. When he came off he was laughing, clapping the crowd and had his arm round Paterson's shoulder. Could any of this be remotely meaningful? perhaps he's seen what one or two on here have seen that the lad Patterson is a terrific prospect as well.
Winchester Red Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I always thought that Jimmy Greaves was cr*p too. No effort at all. Just stood around putting the ball in the net
Charlie Wayman Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I always thought that Jimmy Greaves was cr*p too. No effort at all. Just stood around putting the ball in the net Yeah! but Jimmy Greaves was crap, They've changed the offside rule since those days so 'goal-hangers' as we used to call them were made obsolete after that.
wightman35 Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I was wondering how long it would take..... Especially now that the boys are off School for six weeks!
CanadaSaint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Yeah! but Jimmy Greaves was crap, They've changed the offside rule since those days so 'goal-hangers' as we used to call them were made obsolete after that. We'll have to differ on that one. He used to play right on the offside line and was lightning fast. For every ten goals he scored I'll bet he had at least a couple wrongly disallowed because he was too fast for the linesmen.
