General concensus was that he and Saga were the ones to be shipped out because of their attitude. Don't believe he has ever said it out, just appeared he was not interested.

thing is..he never looks that interested in general...he gets slated when he is played as a lone striker when that is NOT his thing...

he is and will always be a goal poacher

He was a potential buyer, but with a different consortium.

BBC, Theatre and Luvies ring a bell ?

Must have caught the bug.

Kindest Regards

Yep, got ya!

Can't believe this is the same team that lost 5-4 mid-week. Davis in goal - a couple of full backs, a big stopper in the middle, and heart and lungs in mid-field.

Any idea of the crowd?

Pardew must be purring - Hearts are no mugs in Scotland!

Looks like Pardew in the dug out has the desired affect...first game in a long run of wins at Fortress SMS.

Been lovely up here - went out for a drive and didn't worry once about the game! perhaps that is the reason!

Pardew in the Echo today saying Saga & Rasiak have told him they want out.

:( That's a shame. I hope he (Rasiak) changes his mind. If not we need to sign 2 decent forwards to replace them.

N.B. I'm not surprised to hear this about Saga as he said it at the of last season also.

Totally agree, would love to see him stay. Haven't read the echo with Pardew saying that he and Saga want to leave, couldb't care less about Saga but if we could keep Rasiak it would be a massive plus. We still need another experienced pacy strikey IMO.

Still great result, Barry Hearn (Orient chairman) was on SSN earlier saying that this season is the toughest season ever in League 1 - when you look at the teams, he's probably not wrong. Not expecting promotion at all but a expecting to stay up and we definitely need a few more players to accomplish that I believe.

I'm admittedly an optimist, but I have always thought that we have a very strong side for League 1, on paper, when our best players are fit, playing to their abilities, and properly organised. So I'm not totally surprised at this result. Very pleased, to be sure, and glad to see that Pardew (who I was not originally much in favor of because of the way he left reading) is getting the team organised and focused.

We do lack depth, and need a couple more good signings to cover some key areas in case of injury (CB, midfield, striker), but the season certainly looks a lot more promising after a result like this against a pretty strong side!

Just looking at the Orient score. I bet Jamie Scowcroft scored for Orient. We really should have signed him when we had the chance. And before you all start, we did have a chance. I know Jamie and he had talks with us.

He didn't actually, which is odd.

Goals: Smith 4, Thornton pen 23, McGleish 52, Mkandawire 54, Jarvis 82, Baker 87

Scowcroft was subbed at HT.

It is a suprise. He always scores against us and then calls me to gloat. He's still not 100% fit having missed nearly all of last season with an injury thanks to Neil Warnock insisting that he play before he was full recovered.

You say he spoke to us about a move....was this recently? Because i know Wotte tried to get him on loan towards the backend of last season.

I would have thought this is what he is referring to.

But, in any case, who would you (in general) rather: John, Rasiak or Scowcroft? Personally, Scowcroft would come in 3rd place for me (which says everything about the c*ck-up that last season was).

Warnock wanted to put him out on loan last season to try and get him fit following injury. Plymouth wanted him but he refused to go as he's settled in London. I think a couple of smaller clubs showed an interest but again he refused to go on loan and wanted to fight for his place at Palace. At the time he was confident he could earn a 1 year deal. Wotte also made an approach to take him on loan. Not sure of the full details but Warnock fell out with him big time because of his refusal to go anywhere on loan. Ultimately this lead to him being shown the door at Palace with no offer of a short term contract.

He then had talks with Saints about a permanent move. This would have been over 6 weeks ago so it would have been instigated by Wotte. He said the talks didn't progress as nobody knew what was going on at the club. In the end he opted to go to Orient as one of his mates is manager there.

To be fair he plays a different roll than either John or Rasiak. He's not and out and out striker. He often plays behind the front 2 or wide right, so he could have actually fitted in quite well. Anyway, it's irrelevant as he didn't come and has gone elsewhere.
