ozzmeister Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Not sure if this has been posted yet but just checked the OS and the team for today is: Davies, Murty, Perry, Thomas, Harding, Lallana, Wooton, Gillet, Mills, Patterson, John Subs - Bart, Lancaster, James, Gobern, Rasiak Would this be a reflection of what we can expect for the season start? Happy with defence and forward line but not sure about midfield - looks quite liught weight? What do people think, would you make any changes?

Saintjersey Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 That is definately our best team that we have on our books at the moment, but we really need to strengthen and very soon.
John B Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 That is definately our best team that we have on our books at the moment, but we really need to strengthen and very soon. Holmes and Schenderlin missing
oxfordshire_saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 I'm excited about the left sided partnership of Mills and Harding, can see the two of them interchanging well and overlapping.
RobM Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 As expected probably need CB Striker 2 Midfielders Couldn't agree more. Thomas is a big lump of a guy, but lacks pace and I'm not convinced about his positioning and movement. Good option for cover though. Midfield needs some creativity and somebody to generate attack and movement. Attack needs experience and pace. Could be worse though. We also need some quality in reserve as if we lose any of our starting line up, we have no quality to replace them with.
Saintjersey Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Holmes and Schenderlin missing I wouldn't put them in the starting line up. Only change I may make would be James for Wotton.

Happy with defence and forward line but not sure about midfield - looks quite liught weight? What do people think, would you make any changes? From those available today I would have had James starting vice either Wotton or Lallana (probably the former). If all of our current players were available I would have had Morgan starting vice Wotton and James starting vice Lallana (presuming, of course, this is a 4-4-2 and Adam is at RM). For the future we definitely need: (at least 1) new CB (even seeing Lancashire on the subs bench fills me with dread) to start vice Perry so he can replace Lancashire on the bench; a new CM (to replace Wotton); and a new fwd (vice Peterson). A good, fast, beats his man, able to deliver a good cross, RM would also be nice.
L1Minus10 Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Best side from what we have I think, assuming Saga is offski. Would like to see a new striker to play with John, a new LM (not Holmes - waste of space) and two new CM's before season starts.
Thedelldays Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 on paper.. that team is better than at least half of the teams in league 1

What about Davies, Gillet, Patterson and Lanacaster ?
John B Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 on paper.. that team is better than at least half of the teams in league 1 On the Pitch ?
Thedelldays Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 On the Pitch ? wont be long before pardew gets them working on it.. you never know...for once we may have a honeymoon period with our new manager and go on a good start to the season....then this is saints
John B Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Perhaps he has GOAL 1-0 Saints take the lead as Adam Lallana picks up the ball from 25 yards out and unleashes a low shot which arrows into the bottom left corner for the first Saints goal of the Alan Pardew era.

Minsk Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Just goes to show what I know and I am extremely happy that Pardew is our manager. Lallana has just put us 1-0 up after 13 mins. COYS
Joesaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Happy days, wonder how many people are at the game. COYS
Minsk Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 From the little I have gleaned it would appear that Murty is going all out to get a contract. Keep it up Graeme!
ozzmeister Posted 25 July, 2009 Author Posted 25 July, 2009 Sounds like a good start! Lets hope we can keep it up this time and not concede any sloppy goals. Beating Hearts will be a huge confidence booster!
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Mills has been excellent so far, apart from missing an open goal. Looks about 6000 here I reckon.
suewhistle Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 "As the tackles start to slide in from both sides" - so it looks like a decent workout!
Thedelldays Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Mills has been excellent so far, apart from missing an open goal. Looks about 6000 here I reckon. give us run down at half time if poss ta
Barry Horne Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Interestingly, Andrew Lloyd Webber is in the stands watching today's game. Imagine the fuss this would have caused a few weeks ago before ML stepped in to save us!
Minsk Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 It certainly sounded like a lively first half, and a winning one at that. HT 1-0
Saint Billy Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Interestingly, Andrew Lloyd Webber is in the stands watching today's game. Imagine the fuss this would have caused a few weeks ago before ML stepped in to save us! Thats a bit weird seeing his name was linked a few weeks back as a potential buyer.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 give us run down at half time if poss ta Alright first half, few lovely expansive moves one leading to Mills ghosting in and missing an open goal. Goal was nice, long ball up to John who held it up, Lallana in off the right flank, across goal about 20 yards out, left foot into bottom corner, good goal. Mills also taken down when straight through, about 3 inches outside the box. Apart from that we've looked steady. Gillett industrious as ever. Mills has looked outstanding for me, very exciting. Defence has done what's needed of them.

Bad Wolf Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Agree the midfield looks too lightweight. Matt Holland would be a brilliant solution to that problem
eelpie Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Interestingly, Andrew Lloyd Webber is in the stands watching today's game. Imagine the fuss this would have caused a few weeks ago before ML stepped in to save us! Has he cast Phantom yet?
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 how is murty getting on....sorry to be a pain. Looked ok, but they haven't really been tested much to be honest. Him and Harding have been unspectaculae, but done what's needed. Refs been crap though.
Lazlo78 Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Has he cast Phantom yet? Matt Oakley is set to play the lead...
Barry Horne Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Has he cast Phantom yet? Has to be someone a bit elusive...Skacel maybe?!
Stepgar Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Has to be someone a bit elusive...Skacel maybe?! What about Delgado he was missing fo ages wasn't he?
mcjwills Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 According to mate at game we look a lot better organised today
VectisSaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Has he cast Phantom yet? Didn't Claus where a phantom mask for a while?
Thedelldays Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 According to mate at game we look a lot better organised today to be fair, we were playing Ajax last weekend

saints_is_the_south Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 to be fair, we were playing Ajax last weekend Whilst i agree Ajax are better than Hearts there isn't much difference between the Eredivise & the SPL i wouldn't have thought so a test against opposition of similar quality. Hopefully we can stay organised & go onto get a first of many wins at SMS this season!
eelpie Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Has to be someone a bit elusive...Skacel maybe?! I was wondering how Skacel is doing? Is it worth signing him?

saints_is_the_south Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 similar quality between Ajax and Hearts..? please tell me you are not serious..? From the same standard of league is what i meant.
Thedelldays Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 From the same standard of league is what i meant.# makes no difference....we played ajax not the dutch first division
Barry Horne Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 Director's box? No, in with the plebs! He's with a couple of youngsters, guess his kids. He's even been to use the concourse lavs according to my very excited source!
VectisSaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 From the same standard of league is what i meant. But we aren't playing Rangers or Celtic.
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 July, 2009 Posted 25 July, 2009 But we aren't playing Rangers or Celtic. Hearts are a decent outfit though, regularly finish 3rd in SPL & i do believe Ajax only finished 3rdin the Eredivise last season.
