Reality Check!

You are entitled to your opinion "Chez". It is wrong and you don't know what you're talking about, but you are entitled to your opinion. Some people may say that the great thing about living in a democracy is that we all have a voice. Others say the worst thing about living in a democracy is reading "Chez"'s ill informed and wrong posts.

Anyway, to put all this to rest let's agree that this summary is ok with all of us.....

I know a lot about football through my involvement.

I know a lot more about the game than "Chez"

Personally, I think that you're wrong and Chez is right and you don't know what you're talking about. But that's just my opinion, which I'm entitled to as this is a forum of opinions, epitomising the freedom of speech in a democratic society as you point out. So regrettably I cannot join in with agreeing with the two points of your summary that I have left above.

You admitted earlier that you were reticent in confessing to being a referee because of the flak that you were likely to get because of it. And then you go right ahead and illustrate clearly to everybody why that flak is so often deserved.

The average age on this thread strikes me as circa 8 years old.

A referee is closer to football than a fan, just as a plasterer is closer to a painter than a carpenter. Why? Because they both work on the same surface.

In the stands at SMS you hear some complete gash about football tactics and rules / laws. People, for example, who haven't grasped the updates to the offside rule getting all prissy at the Ref for enforcing the rules correctly. And it looks to me that there are some of the same on here.

My advice? Let Pardew be Pardew. Wait until the window slams shut and then judge whether his spending (or lack there of) has been worthwhile.

Spot the flaw in your argument that an 8 year old would have spotted.

Presumably by the same token, the groundsman knows more about football than the fan in the stand too, as they work on the same surface.

Why is this still going on?

Here's whats been resolved:

I was a tad harsh on AP who shut me up with a press statement within 24 hours.

Iwas'nt digging or moaning about AP's credentials.

People dont read threads and get carried away.

I can't spell.

CB. Fry. likes. to. do. this.

So as the thread starter I take full responsibility in ending this, the season is upon us in 2 bloody weeks.

ahhhh Thank you.

Interesting to read that, SW11 and to witness the vast improvement in our play against Hearts on Saturday. On the one hand we are told that Pardew had not been able to spend time coaching and then we see this remarkable improvement. Could it be that in the little time that he spent with the players, the message that he got over was simply that they had a short time to make an impression on him, that anybody who didn't give 100% effort would be out of the door? Maybe the message was delivered with sufficient force and lack of ambiguity that the players' minds were focussed sharply on their futures and produced hte desired effect.

Think you're spot on Wes. I see my "exclusive" was already reported in the Echo (oops!) and this might have been too, but I did hear that he was just watching the Salisbury game from the Stands to get a perspective on how good/bad we really were. He was so incensed by what he saw he stormed into the dressing room at half time and gave them the rollocking of their lives - making it clear that he expected automatic promotion this year and that anyone who wasn't making the effort or up to it would be out. The result - 4 goals in the second half!

I do honestly believe we're seeing the "Pardew effect" before our eyes. Not to say I think we'll walk every game (in fact I suspect Millwall will be a draw) but I do think we have the right man, with the right ambition and authority (finally!!!) at the helm.

Good times ahead I hope.
