Club or Country?

Definitely club, even though I've seen England abroad (Italia 90) and at Wembley a couple of times. It is fun watching England down the local pub (despite patronising bastards saying, "oooh, you know about football".. "yes dear, I play it!"). In my local Italian bar they know who I support as I make it very clear! But nothing beats 1976 or 2003 or the ups and downs of following Saints, from near and far.

one thing that is brilliant..is when the big international competitions come around...all the hype, the build up, the euphoria when england score/go through...it cant be matched....

obviously, when the kick offs are at a sensible time for us here in th UK..

I just love watching football, Saints are, and always will be my first love of the game though. When I'm at home I also watch as much as I can on Sky too no matter who is playing.

When it comes to Saints and England I have almost the same passion to see England win and feel the same disappointment if we lose. However I do find that amongst people I know who support clubs such as Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal that I find England drawing and losing games easier to take. Not to draw any comparisons for obvious reasons I think that my expectation levels are not as high as those who support a top 4 club who expect and often see a positive result week in and week out. I know I'd like to but as a Saints supporter I still try to keep my feet on the ground and I watch England with the same mentality without being unrealistic of my expectations of the game against the opposition we're playing. And sure, I still get annoyed when we lose against opposition I expected to get a result against but that happens a lot as a Saints supporter when I'm watching them play too.

This dosen't mean I'm any less passionate than the most fervent England fan who support a top 4 club but just a little more accepting of the fact we can lose sometimes and more often than not... when you least expect it.

I am Scottish and a Saints fan so I truly believe that I must have done something wrong in a previous life, as I have no fecking chance of glory at any level !!!

Any win for either and I'm happy, perhaps I'm just a simple man ? :)

Irish lad here (lets sit back & slag the english) & I know what you mean.

If it came down to a one off major trophy I would have to say Ireland because the country would go mental for at least 6 months & its more fun if you have someone to celebrate with....(dreams of being there to see Saints win a Champions League Final)... if it was sustained success it would have to be Saints.

...that said it would be great craic to lord it over Liverpool/Man utd fans, even if it was just for 1 season... I'm torn.

To prefer one over the other is simply a category mistake.

I support Saints in the English FL club scene.

I support England in the international scene.

No problem.

BTW, the mid-sixties were the golden years for me: Saints were promoted to the First Divison and England won the World Cup.

Absolutely Club. Couldn't care less about England at all.

I find it amusing when England lose or play badly against other teams, especially the minnows. International football just doesn't register on my radar that much at all.

In fact, when England are playing against a team with a Saints player (or even ex-Saint) in the squad, I do find myself rooting for the other team. I'd rather see the Saints player doing well against England.

I don't believe for a minute that any English Saints fan `doesn't give a ****' about the national side. Yes perhaps when we are labouring away at Wembley against some semi pro side, but for a few weeks every two years (if we are lucky) absolutely nothing compares with supporting England in a major competition. The whole country is talking footie and it is a bloody brilliant time and if you then manage to travel to watch the side abroad then the experience is even better still.

I'm an England fan that struggles to be enthused by the qualifying games these days, so on a day to day basis it's Saints all the way, but when the summer tournament comes round its all about England.

After having this convo many times, if it came down to Saints winning the Prem League or England winning the World cup, I would rather England win.

I support both as much as each other and is a toughie question

I'm pretty sure England have already won the world cup so I'll go for Saints winning the Premier League please. After we do that in 2012 then it's England's turn :)

Club. The national team made up of over-payed, inflated ego mercenaries does not represent me.

That said, I sometimes get a little excited at big tournaments when the whole country gets behind the team - but those feelings are very short lived and I reckon that would still be the case if we ever won anything.

One love and that's Saints. I couldn't give a toss if England lose. I used to love the national team before money ruined football, these days I think "****** to england".

The way Le Tiss was treated by england was a disgrace. England is just a clique for the "top 4" these days.

The over-importance of Internationals is already distorting the leagues. This will inevitably put even more weight behind the top clubs' argument for fewer domestic games - so their poor players can have a rest before/after internationals, and before the tired luvvies have to go on to play their Champions League games. And Blatter & Co will use the internationals argument to get national leagues to have smaller top divisions.

It's all heading in one direction, I'm afraid. It's called "stuff the small clubs".

people have been saying that since I can remember...

simply not happened

there was supposed to be a break away european league by now - no

the prem was supposed to be split into two by now - no

the sky contract was supposed to be torn up and the clubs making their own deals with who ever they liked by now - no

infact, europes top leagues are NOW 20 teams strong each...cant remember which league but one UP'T their numbers from 18-20..?

Saints for me. I have very little interest in the England team since MLT was treated so badly and because Engalnd has become a media-hyped side. Maybe its because a lot of people would enjoy seeing England beaten by any of the other home nations, that this could be why they avoid playing them.

I find this thread - and the number of people saying they don't give a **** about England - very sad.

I love the Saints - but an England World Cup win would top any football moment I could think of. (Well, other than me scoring Saints winner in an FA Cup final and that ain't happening).

i dont believe people are slagging off international football so much! For me, nothing beats a world/european cup summer. I love that the whole country comes together, flags out of windows, in cars, the hype and the whole country feeling the same emotional rollercoaster. Simply for the reason that it would delight 40 million people i would have to put a World Cup win over saints winning the PL. Then again I find international breaks very irritating when England are playing someone who they should beat easily (Andorra) and i miss out on a week of supporting my beloved club.

i do find it kinda offensive though that ppl are suggesting this makes me not a real football fan, I love my country and my club equally and am proud to be a part of both of them

Not too bothered about England, would enjoy a World Cup run for the atmosphere down the pub and to get one over the Welsh and Scots. But don't feel very connected to the England team, the Sheffield band playing God save the Queen and muppets signing no surrender turns me cold.

Both are important to me. I am old enough to remember and experience England winning the world cup and saints winning the fa cup 10 years later.

There is absolutely no need to choose, there does not have to be a compromise, none effects the other.

I am proud to be English and I am proud to support saints.

What is ruining the international game is the obscene amounts of money these guys are earning primarily with their clubs which I think is clouding many peoples decision with regard to club or country which is understandable.
