Way back when in 1977 or maybe 1978, Talking Heads came over on what I believe was their first tour to promote their new album Talking Heads '77. They played at Southampton University. At the time I worked in a record shop in Winchester and we had tickets for the gig. I was stood at the front looking up at her. She was very unsure and David Byrne kept coaching and encouraging her. She was using a large green plastic triangular plectrum and dropped it. It bounced off the stage and I picked it up. She had spares so I trousered it.

By the way, the support band that night was Dire Straits!!!

Yay .. I was there that night as well, but didn't get Tina Weymouth's plectrum, some **** a few rows in front of me trousered it ;)

Amazing to think that a few months later Dire Straits would release Sultans of Swing and be playing sell out gigs at places like The Gaumont etc so soon after being a support band at Soton Uni to a few hundred people

Keeping it footie related, hopefully our season will be similarly upward ... 1st away game at Huddersfield, last game of the season winning the play offs at Wembley (actually lets make it winning the last 2 games of the season at Wembley ... FA Cup and Play off final :D)

Damn, there was me checking out the online version of "eye", a medical periodical, didn't see anything about Nick, but learned quite a bit about keratoiritis, cheers!

First time I've ever seen Saints mentioned in the Eye.

Which is a good thing.

Gooner boardroom shenanigans have been mentioned quite a bit of late.

Pip pip.

Any fule kno what this thread is about.

Stop making sense people.

LOL. You know, I sort of look at Nick and think...

You're also part of the old regime, part of the past failure of the last dozen years. I think we all finally agreed we needed a complete clear out. For me I'm afraid that it includes Nick appearing on the TV and enjoying the limelight.

Time to write a column on the Ugly and retire from everything else. New dawn awaits. Full clear out includes Nick. Sorry mate, but time to take a step back.

Isn't that a bit like saying old fans out, new fans in ?

I have to say I find it embarassing when they wheel out the likes of Illingsworth and Clive Foley on TV.

I totally agree. I find it both a pi** take at us because we are so dense and sheer plain ignorance and laziness of the media.

How is it the media always go to that stupid moronic sounding species(trying to be polite here as it is supposedly a SAINTS FAN) when they want to talk saints. There are thousands of us out there including former players and staff.

TDD you don't need to be a brain surgeon to stop people in the street and ask them their views. If they know their job they could also ask for the views of former players and staff.

I am not literate enough to be caught on the spot and asked because I just might hurt someone with my views. Illingsworth comes across as a bumbling fool and even people like myself with limited education cringe when he is asked as a fans representative for his views.

but sky etc DONT go out on the stree often...when they do you will see various people on telly/radio

when news stories break, they look up their phone book and phone a few people

if i am not wrong, jason dodd, francis benali, MLT, Lawrie Mac, Dave armstrong, mark dennis, nick illingsworth and more have gievn their views on talksport/sky...i have no idea the of the local press

not too sue how many people they should get opinions off consideringwe are a 3rd division club..

They did a great gig a year or so later at the Locarno, still pretty unsure of themselves - although the keyboard player (Harrison ?) spent a lot of support act (A Certain Ratio ?) time at the bar....

Perhaps that's why ML is going to use a PR company.

Yeah I suppose it is. What I mean is, I dont mind reading Nick's articles. But, I object to seeing him on TV, he comes over as another attention seaker and he is certainly one fan that needs to take a careful look at himself and ask, 'did I really do enough to oppose the previous mismanagement of the club when it mattered?'

I am afraid some couldve been more vocal but for some reason were not. Nick just reminds me of the bad times.... but he writes sense on occassions.

Hmmm... for all his undoubted enthusiasm and hard work, he's NEVER been blessed especially with the ability to construct a cogent sentence... Why start picking on him now?
