Teaching English abroad makes you depressive and suicidal, teaching English in England just pushes you over the edge. I wouldn't mind wagering that the average level of English in any reputable lycée south of Calais is as good as your average local comprehensive (or whatever they call it nowadays).Without mentioning Northern Europe. I want to be there at the start of a new dawn for SFC. It must also be useful to be a "renewal" next May instead of a newbie, presuming we get promotion of course. I expect the price would go up a notch if we're back in the CCC next season so renewing might save another £100 or so on a pair of tickets. eurosaint Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 TBF we can all sit and say "it would be better if they did this or did that" but we didn`t even know if we had a club or whether the employees had jobs until recently. We are where we are this year so I think that we have to accept that the system is going to be less than perfect through lack of time. Next year should be a different story. Spot on ! There will never be a system which pleases everybody, but this season in particular has been exceptional because of time constraints etc.. Personally I think the ticket office has done a good job in difficult circumstances !

rallyboy Posted 27 July, 2009 Share Posted 27 July, 2009 10K pretty soon? - I think that is fantastic and I am usually being ironic on here but it is this time and I believe the Northam may be sold out for Millwall. It's a real vote of confidence for the new regime, people are putting their money behind ML and AP, the supporters are coming back, there is a good feeling around Saints for the first time in flipping years, long may it continue. If teams think they are coming to a club struggling on minus points that will lay down and die because the support has faded after relegations - they are in for a shock. Fortress St Marys! Let's give some crap side a good hammering, and I don't care whther they are from a little town in the middle of nowhere, they're in our division now. Neil Posted 27 July, 2009 Share Posted 27 July, 2009 I would imagine the fact that no-one actually knows (outside of the PFC ticket office, that pressure-cooker working environment) how many STs they've sold gives us some indication, it must be pretty humiliating. NickG Posted 28 July, 2009 Share Posted 28 July, 2009 a lot of crowds are dropping at the moment. Our supporters proved that they didn't like watching Championship football when the team were doing badly, so I can't see them embrasing third division football with open arms. At the moment we're in a honeymoon period and there's a certain feelgood factor around, you just wait until ten games have passed and we're still in the botton four, you just watch gates diminish to around the twelve thousand mark. Nice and positive..... I cannot see it dipping below 15-18 all season with 10-11k season ticket holders!! We will be down there for a while but we'll fly up the league. Even if we are around there at xmas you only have to look at what sunderland did under keane bottom at xmas to getting automatic promotion with a few key january signings. It's not about the team are doing badly, or which division we are in; it's about watching a team who give a damn. I think we have a solid core of c. 23K supporters. I think these supporters would follow Southampton in whichever division they are in... However, last season we had significantly less than 23K for two reasons: 1) The spectre of Lowe hung over the club. 2) Half the time the team didn't seem to be trying. Frankly, who wants to spend hundreds each year to watch some overrated kids half-heartedly pull out of tackles and flatter to deceive? Having to watch BWP lose the ball, his head fall, with no attempt to track back and defend, gives me nightmares. It doesn't mean the supporters have deserted the club - quite simply they don't want to torture themselves every weekend, and be charged for the pleasure. Now that Lowe has gone, and if the team keep playing at 100% right up until the whistle, I would not be surprised to see us with 23K gates in League 1 (wherever we are in the table!) rallyboy Posted 28 July, 2009 Share Posted 28 July, 2009 I think Cowesboy could be proved correct, IF we send out an overpaid team that obviously doesn't care, if we have a lunatic at the helm, get beaten most home games and have players who think thieving from less well-off people is a good hobby. Even though we will be in the bottom four for a while, I believe we should get 20K people through the gate regularly.
Cabrone Posted 28 July, 2009 Share Posted 28 July, 2009 Don't agree Cowesboy, what fans really want to see is endeavour by the players. Why was Frannie Benali so popular? It wasn't because he was the most talented but rather that he gave it everything. If the team gives it their all then most fans will stick with them. scott_saints Posted 28 July, 2009 Share Posted 28 July, 2009 Nothing to do with players "giving their all". Doing well=Higher crowds Not doing well=Lower crowds. It's really that simple, and it's the same at all clubs.

If next season we are relegated by losing every game 6-5, but fight to the last and play attractive football, then we'd have a higher attendance than if we have a a scrappy half-hearted season of draws and 1 nils, that means we just miss out on the league 1 play off... Of course I could be completely wrong.

A mid table season would see more high attendances, but wouldn't have any sms sell outs, resulting in a lower average attendance for the season.
