Euell Joins Blackpool

I had the unfortunate pleasure to see Euell play against Bristol Rovers (Away) in the cup...... quite possible the worst performance by a so called professional sportsman I have ever seen. 10 grand wasn't worth 10p

Some of the venom sent in his direction is unfair. I always felt he was working hard and was most effective when used as an old fashioned centre forward. Why the football world, including Euell himself, think that he is a midfielder is beyond me.

Trouble is, being a centre forward you are expected to score goals

Euell always looked to me like a player who had been quite good in his day but was too old and too slow to even get to the ball let alone do anything useful with it.

You need pace in every division - otherwise you don't get into the game. Also, using forwards who have no pace puts a massive extra burden on the rest of the team - both in terms of having to produce pin-point passes and in terms of making opposition defences feel comfortable and encouraging them to push forward.

I would also get rid of Stern John for the same reason.

Great news, Euell had this uncanny ability to allow the ball to run under his foot more times in 90 minutes than i had ever seen before, it really was a trademark skill of his.

Probably why we paid him 14K a week then, if you've got some "talent" that not many others have you can always talk some idiot into paying top rate for it.

John has a shot like a cruise missile - particularly volleying - and is decent in the air with service which to be fair is very different from Euell.

How's this then:

Euell Becomes A Seasider

Tue 21 Jul 2009

Blackpool FC have signed Jason Euell on an initial one-year deal with the option for a further year.

Euell, 32, joins the Seasiders on a free transfer after leaving Southampton and will wear the number 18 shirt.

Was going to post the same thing.

He should have been sacked straight after that game.

I agree that John has a decent shot and is OK in the air but IMMHO he is just too slow to be able to use these attributes ... I find him truly painful to watch ... he just makes life so easy for defenders ..

I really hope that we get rid of him ..

this is a real blow and sets us back, Euell was to be the spine of our promotion-winning team and he offered excellent value for money when you think of the games that he won us single-handed last season.

In my view he will be a very difficult player to replace for that sort of wage, he was so much more than just a free-scoring midfield general.

Then again my view is slightly-impaired by the mind-altering ****tail of drugs that the nurses sedate me with, so I may be confusing him with a hat stand or a small tree.

Pardew must be chuffed, that's one less awkward conversation he has to have with an overpaid underachiever.

Would have liked Euell to stay and play in midfield alongside Gillett, but not going to lose any sleep now that he has left. He turned out to be a costly signing, and his high wages meant it was almost inevitable that he'd leave.

I don't hold anything against him however, and although things didn't work out for him here as well as we'd originally hoped, I wish him all the very best for the future. I'm sure he'll do a decent job for Holloway at Blackpool.

Yeah, I think passing's overrated too. ;)
