Hearts on Saturday

Does anyone else (who is old enough like me) remember us playing a friendly against Hearts just after winning the FA Cup Final in 76. Most people remember the Channon testimonial on the Monday evening but I'm sure we also played against Hearts on the following Saturday.

I have no idea why a friendly like this was played post-season. I seem to remember it being billed as a English vs Scottish cup winners game. I went along early thinking the Dell would be packed like the Channon game but in fact it was a bit of an anti-climax with not many there. Sad as I am, I even remember the score - we lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up.

Am I going mad or does anyone else remember this?

Thanks - I'm not going mad :-)

I wonder whatever happened to Pat Earles.

Went to Reading in Jan 1977, then Road Sea Southampton, then Bognor. Now a probation officer. Apart from that I haven't got a clue!

I can't make it due to prior arrangements. Would be nice to think Pards will use it as a proper game and to try to get his first team playing together how he wants.

If we do as well for the whole game as we did for the first half hour against Ajax I shall go home happy.

I shall take my lucky tumbleweeds with me.

3 weeks ago Southampton Football Club nearly didn't exist. Then a man arrived and bought us, saved us from death, a club he has no contacts with, with his own money!

If people can't be bothered to turn up and pay £10 and show support for ML and the SFC09 connection, then I think that is shocking.

Unless you're at Lords, Piggy Flu, Ibiza, getting the car M.O.T.'d, Car Booting etc etc.

Come on everyone, get behind the new owners and show them they have invested in the right football club with true passionate fans..

There is only one place to be tomorrow and that is SMS. Shake the negativity out and support the team tomorrow in the build-up to Millwall. What could be more important than that?

Totally agree. AP has said we need to get into winning ways and so has asked for our help in supporting the team. How is he to feel if the fans let him down first time around.

This from the Daily Express

'Before Hearts can contemplate Europe they must limber up for the new season with friendly clashes against Southampton and Plymouth in the coming days.

The Edinburgh side’s preparations were wrecked when new Saints manager Alan Pardew banned Hearts from training at their plush complex, despite a deal between the sides being agreed three weeks ago.

That left them grounded in Scotland yesterday as they drew up new plans to fly to England later today and make use of the facilities at neighbouring Portsmouth'.

They'll be lucky, Pimpey can't even find facilities there!!

Sorry, but I went to the Ajax game and enjoyed it. Having just forked out £700 for season tickets I was greatful for a free Ajax ticket but really think that they should have done the same for the Hearts match as well for ST holders. I just can't justify £20 for a friendly match no matter how much of a SFC fan me and the girlfriend are.

Spose you might be able to get a beer within the 15 minute half time break on Saturday though...

If only the Kingsland and Itchen stands are open tomorrow and as the OS says it is all unreserved seating. Where are the Hearts fans going to sit??

Also that would only make the capacity tomorrow around the 20k mark.

Anyway I will be there.:)

Lord's, no-brainer.

Are they showing the Hants-Sussex game in one of the suites or the Kingsland Bar? Surely they could make some money by doing this to get punters in before and after the Hearts game.

No mention of any 'dispute' on their live 'South Coast' blog:

Heart of Midlothian FC: Well here we go then! It’s time to pack the bags, don the tracksuit and prepare for another journey with the Jambos.

The south coast of England is the destination this time around, with two exciting games to come against Southampton and Plymouth. That’s the business – tough games against opposition that will work the team out and test out initial tactics for the new campaign.

Of course, tomorrow’s hosts Saints have had a tough summer, but everyone at Hearts is delighted to see their problems solved and new owner Markus Liebherr in place. When you work at a club you appreciate and understand the people behind the scenes more than anything else – for all of us it’s a job (as well as a passion!).

Speaking to the Southampton staff this week in preparation for the game across various departments (ticketing, mach organisation and media) they are delighted to be getting on with the business of readying themselves for the new season. They’re on course for 10,000 season tickets (sold in a fortnight) which is more than last season in the Championship from which they were relegated. A top effort!

Our media team will post regular updates and try to entertain with anecdotes from behind the scenes. This LIVE Blog also features our Twitter feed so we can update news instantly.

I got the Express link from a thread on the Hearts Fansweb site. The thread is titled 'Pardew is a Tosser'. Some of the reaction on there is not good, as you might expect, people asking why this has happened etc. Certainly not good for PR between the clubs on the face of it. It would be good to know why this has happened - perhaps Mr Pilchards might be able to provide some insight?

Official line from Hearts:

'With regards to training Hearts weren't banned (don't believe everything you read), but the available time slots changed in keeping with Alan Pardew's own training plans since taking over. The good news is that we'll train at Portsmouth FC's place now - I think they are heading away for pre-season in Portugal so that makes it relatively straight forward.'

comment from poster -

Pardew is still a bell end tho!

you heard it here first!!

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday with a few of my Scottish mates.

Suspect there will only be a few hundred of us, given the length of journey and our upcoming European trip.

I think the first few are boarding the train in Edinburgh as we speak.
