Toadhall Saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 ....... what would you expect him to start working on? 1, Fitness 2, Instilling confidence (probably only comes with results)
John B Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Deciding on the players he wants to keep and bringing in new players
skintsaint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 I reckon he will make sure his collar is starched enough to stand up cantona like on his training tops, then I reckon he will get onto fitness.
NickG Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 confidence was 100 times more of a problem than fitness last year.
70's Mike Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 confidence was 100 times more of a problem than fitness last year. what about ability
SO16_Saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 what about ability 100 times more than fitness AND confidence
Saint Fan CaM Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 If he is really worth his salt, he will spend the first day watching and listening more than making any huge rash decisions or changes. Remember, he needs to assess the coaching staff as well as the players.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 If we haven't bought at least 2 players by the end of today I'm gonna kick off massively.
GenevaSaint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Sorting the wheat from the chaff I would hope. Working out what positions require the new talent.
This Charming Man Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 5. Making sure Facebook and RedTube isn't blocked on his computer.
sperm_john Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Arranging his desk? locating the nearest decent bakery?? thats what I do ony my first day anyway .....
spank_182 Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Should teach players to shoot when they're in shooting positions and not just wait for support or pass sideways - still a massive problem with Saints, and was evident on Saturday. Hopefully identify that the youngsters have no confidence in shooting and add that into training.
SaintRichmond Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 ....... what would you expect him to start working on? 1, Fitness 2, Instilling confidence (probably only comes with results) Finding out why Rasiak stands still for 89.9 minutes ..........
Larrylove Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 5. Making sure Facebook and RedTube isn't blocked on his computer. And Puretna which is a far superior watch for the discerning gentleman
Polaroid Saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 He's already been in the dressing room and started on the mentality side of things. but yeah, hopefully he'll be chatting with all staff and I suspect him and cortese to talk seriously about coaching staff this morning. I should imagine that at some point today he'll sort out his company car too. :-)
Torres Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 He should ask the Mods to create a "Keep or Get Rid?" poll on here for every member of the squad and then sit back, make a few cups of tea and wait for the results.
Junior Mullet Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 He should ask the Mods to create a "Keep or Get Rid?" poll on here for every member of the squad and then sit back, make a few cups of tea and wait for the results. Brilliant. He'd be left with nobody though other than, perhaps, KD at a push.
RonManager Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Ask Rasiak 'Do you or do you not want to play for this club'? If not then bye bye If so then get out there and start RUNNING ffs !!!!
Thedelldays Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Ask Rasiak 'Do you or do you not want to play for this club'? If not then bye bye If so then get out there and start RUNNING ffs !!!! when has rasiak ever ran..? one thing he has done for saints..is score goals when given a run in the team brett ormerod ran his socks off, yet he is no where near as good as raz
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 He would of taken them in the canteen area for a 10 minute chat before going on the other training pitch at staplewood where they will spend 30 minutes doing fitness work while Stewart Henderson sets up the balls and bids on the main pitch for ball drills.
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 If he is really worth his salt, he will spend the first day watching and listening more than making any huge rash decisions or changes. Remember, he needs to assess the coaching staff as well as the players. you're right, Pardew and Dillon (it seems) are standing and watching the one touch setup by Henderson.
Thedelldays Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 you're right, Pardew and Dillon (it seems) are standing and watching the one touch setup by Henderson. are you there watching...?
dubai_phil Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 He would of taken them in the canteen area for a 10 minute chat before going on the other training pitch at staplewood where they will spend 30 minutes doing fitness work while Stewart Henderson sets up the balls and bids on the main pitch for ball drills. The evil retort would be - wow, impressive start, what ALL of them? blimey. he probably needed a supply of that Syrian stuff... But then as it's Pilchards we know this means he's looking out his office window or via his spy satellite and is pretty much typing one fingered on his gooseberry to keep us informed, so we'll let him off with that amusing typo
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 are you there watching...? With Pardew telling the security gates I want nobody in Fullstop!!! until the season starts but I have managed to watch Hoddles, Burleys and and strachans first session.
Sevvy Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Taking them to the opticians i would have thought as some of the passing was bad, pass was either short so was intercepted or we gave it straight to them.
spank_182 Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 What's all this hate for Rasiak? Easily one of our best players on Sat and the team would be loads better with him in than without. Thought he actually worked pretty hard on Sat and played the lone striker well role, it was those around him which werent up to much.
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 (edited) Mr Pardew takes over at last as Bart and Davis come back from the keeper drills. Edited 20 July, 2009 by Pilchards
eelpie Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 If he is really worth his salt, he will spend the first day watching and listening more than making any huge rash decisions or changes. Remember, he needs to assess the coaching staff as well as the players. He will, but he will also tell them that from what he has seen their physical stamina is not up to standard and that their lifestyles may have to change to ensure a minimum professional match-day fitness and performance
eelpie Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Finding out why Rasiak stands still for 89.9 minutes .......... Blimey, the game must have been really boring if you could not take your eyes off Rasiak for that long.
um pahars Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 I would just having them running until they puked. Quick drink. Then running again until they puked again. Quick drink. Then repeat.
Wildgoose Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 you're right, Pardew and Dillon (it seems) are standing and watching the one touch setup by Henderson. From his record Dillon could be a great addition to the coaching team as Asst Manager/First Team coach. I couldn't care less that he played for Pompey if he can do a good job here.... Wonder if he'll be added to the staff today?
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 This Pardew is screaming his ****ing head off as he is trying to make a point in his system. haha
Saintjersey Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 This Pardew is screaming his ****ing head off as he is trying to make a point in his system. haha Excellent, sounds like just what we need.
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 it's 8 aside on the half pitch and Pardew is kicking the ball in several areas of the pitch before blowing his whistle. It's call position play as he organises the attacks and the defence, He is miffed that we are so out of shape as in tactics but this man really makes his point so clear. love this guy as he's the BOSS
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 (edited) Oh dear the whistles are getting louder and even more often! perhaps it's a education lesson they need not drills. Every 10 seconds he blows up as they don't do what he is asking which is movement off the ball and down the flanks. Edited 20 July, 2009 by Pilchards
Wildgoose Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Sounds like we will get discipline, passion and fitness for starters. Agree it's just what we need!!!!!
the saint in winchester Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 ....... what would you expect him to start working on? 1, Fitness 2, Instilling confidence (probably only comes with results) Definitely No 1 and yes ideally No2 but agree your comment that untimately success breeds confidence. Most of them looked out of condition on Saturday, especially Saga (woah, who ate all the pies?) so FITNESS should be a priority. Also agree a few other comments on here that he should be getting to know everyone and listening to their views and assessments. He also should be making his own assessment of the players' abilities. The only comment attributed to him since the weekend was that we are 5 or 6 players short of a good side. Personally I'd like him work with the current squad until December and then in January bring in players that we need.
eelpie Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 I would just having them running until they puked. Quick drink. Then running again until they puked again. Quick drink. Then repeat. Instead of drinking till they puked and anything but running. Revolutionary.
Torres Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Stewart Henderson sets up the balls and bids on the main pitch for ball drills. Ebay?
Webby Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Sounds like he has to get rid of the bad habits before he can instil good ones
Thedelldays Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 it's 8 aside on the half pitch and Pardew is kicking the ball in several areas of the pitch before blowing his whistle. SaintDonkey Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Cheers for the updates Pilchards. How are the players reacting to all this shouting and whistles?
Wildgoose Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 We really are out of shape aren't we? I was concerned last pre-season and this that we don't seem to have had stamina work as in previous seasons and it shows. I would have thought it was an obvious thing to do...but maybe only to the Strachans and Pardews!
eelpie Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 did not think anyone was allowed in...? Pilchards is not anyone... he's gateman
Thedelldays Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Pilchards is not anyone... he's gateman aaahh.. i see.. good stuff
skintsaint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Pilchards is not anyone... he's gateman whos the keymaster?
