saint_stevo Posted 19 July, 2009 Author Posted 19 July, 2009 They must have mistaken you for a native, then. your on a role tonight, one ****ing classic one liner after another
Thedelldays Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 I went once...it happaned to be during Cowes week...met Pam St Clement AKA Pat Butcher. It was about 15 years ago though...however, this proves that I am cool
Dicko Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Having lived in Jersey, I think IOW's wierdness is just an Island mentality in general They don't like outsiders
RedAndWhite91 Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 The scooter rally is brilliant, went to it in Ryde last year, it was great.
saint_stevo Posted 19 July, 2009 Author Posted 19 July, 2009 (edited) spent the weekend in a hovvel with a bunch of degenerates. Basically nothing to do during the day, and the pubs and cluB were gash Edited 19 July, 2009 by saint_stevo
Baj Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Born and bred islander, and agree, ****ing odd place...
Jillyanne Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Bunch of morons, especially you Baj, the IOW has so much to offer, better than anywhere in this sh*tehole called Southampton.
tpbury Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Do IOwers get much junk mail? Working in the industry, it's often classed in the same bracket as the outer hebrides - ie don't send offers there as it's too difficult to get products there or they have differerent local regs. At my firm, I've campaigned to make sure IOW is treated differrently to IOM and th e Channel Isles. What's your thoughts - especially in respect of insurance 'offers'. blah balh Ta

Very few firms I have dealt with seem to have a problem with us being 'overseas'! Jillyanne - thanks for nice comments - it is a lovely place to live
Truesaint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 At least we have a bloody great stretch of water between us and portsmuff! Although if i lived in Ryde i must admit i would have to brick up my windows that faced out to sea. Iamgine waking up to the site of that dump everyday.
ecuk268 Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 Bunch of morons, especially you Baj, the IOW has so much to offer, better than anywhere in this sh*tehole called Southampton. I think you should be banned for libelling God's Chosen City, the jewel of the South Coast. I lived in Ryde for 9 years and, while it was OK in the summer, the winter was a bit deadly. Also, if you wanted to go anywhere, the ferries were expensive and added an hour each way on to the journey. To be fair, I left in 1985 and since then it's gained a lot of the big chain stores so shopping's a lot better. The people are OK but they can be a bit inward looking, probably the same for all small islands.
saint_stevo Posted 20 July, 2009 Author Posted 20 July, 2009 I went into a shop that was on the site where i was staying (Freshwater area) and the shop was about the size of a standard corner shop and they had 6 different products for sale. They only had 3 newspapers for sale each day and hand wrote receipts...

Smirking_Saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 What ambitions do kids at school on the IOW have? Farmers, coblers, candlestick makers, marrying their sisters. Get off the island
saint_stevo Posted 20 July, 2009 Author Posted 20 July, 2009 What ambitions do kids at school on the IOW have? I was talking to a bird in some hole of a club over there who had never been off the island, she was 23. she had also seemingly screwed most of the locals stood out in the smoking area.......nice girl
Islander Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 I see now you went to Freshwater. That's different! It's like me saying people in Hampshire (including down the M27) are all the same.....

Went to Newport for a night out (99p a drink in some dive) and another night out at the balcony, wherever that was....... so i got a decent cross section of the 'people' there
Dicko Posted 20 July, 2009 Posted 20 July, 2009 In the late 80's / early 90's, I used to visit Colonel Bogey's in Sandown with a couple of mates Easiest place to get laid in the South of England

Iowsaintsfan Posted 21 July, 2009 Posted 21 July, 2009 I see now you went to Freshwater. That's different! It's like me saying people in Hampshire (including down the M27) are all the same..... Your right there and ventnor you have to be careful where ya sister is your mother and all that but the rest of the island is quite normal, if not a little behind the times - Churchill is still leading the country right?
St Landrew Posted 21 July, 2009 Posted 21 July, 2009 Must have sailed into Cowes, Newport, Wooten, Fishbourne, Newtown Creek, Yarmouth and Bembridge at least a 100 times since I returned to sailing about 6 years ago. Love the place. Quirky, provincial and friendly. Such a change from the cynical mainland. Island people are all right.
hamster Posted 21 July, 2009 Posted 21 July, 2009 Farmers, coblers, candlestick makers, marrying their sisters. Get off the island Do they still 'caulk' over there? And is it true that there is only one escalator on the Island? I am sure that I read about it being a local tourist attraction when it fisrt opened in the eighties, but everyone was scared to ride it. What makes one 'island' and 'Island', and another 'island' an 'Isle? This puzzles me.

The Escalator thing was true up until a couple of years ago when they built Cineworld now we have 3!!! and yes sadly it was a bit of an attraction its in BHS not so sure about people where scared to ride it and i think it was later than 80s that it open it was more the 90s !
