suewhistle Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Perhaps we could have the concourses looking something like this, gravity dispensed and cooled by water jackets and when it runs out it runs out. http://www.cask-ale.co.uk/glastonwick115.jpg As someone pointd out on another thread many local breweries are set up to do festivals with this sort of gear. Different brewery at different games, or alternate between the different concourses. Maybe have the quaffing bitter, not the strong stuff e.g. GFB and not Summer Lightening (much as I like it). I might actually get to the ground early for a pint, because even when I was living in the UK and had a season ticket I never, ever, drank at the ground. Neil Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 As soon as this contract with Carlsberg/Tetley is up it should be cancelled. Get in some decent beer from a local brewer - Bowmans or Itchen Valley, something like that. Then you may actually get people in the ground to drink and spend money earlier. http://www.bowman-ales.com/home.html http://www.itchenvalley.com/

Son of Bob Posted 20 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I reckon the club are losing out on a fair bit of revenue to be honest. If they served nice beer and decent grub at competative prices there would be a lot more people getting to the ground earlier and having a drink or two prior to the game? I don't like to harp on about the Stadium of Light (I will anyway!) but their concourse bars are lively and buzzing with people well over an hour before kick off. Its something that has not been right for years yet gets ignored by every management team ...the revenue loss must be ridiculous over a season. trousers Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Perhaps they've been 'advised' to sell crap/weak beer with an equally crap queuing system to clamp down on drunkeness? Wouldn't surprise me in this nanny state within which we live.
suewhistle Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 real ale wont keep long enough No, we do drink rather a lot of it when we get going... It doesn't have to. They'll get it in for the match in quantities they know they're going to sell, and when it's sold out that's it until next time. They'll soon manage to gauge likely sales. shepherds bush saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 could ask the local CAMRA if they could help - they organise loads of festivals which can get pretty crowded.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 It's not that important really is it? I can understand it at rugby venues and when I've been to German football, where you can drink in the stands, but who cares about necking a pint in an overcrowded concourse having queued for 10 minutes and almost missing the start of the second half? Have yourself a few jars of your choice in a decent boozer before and after and savour them. The same with the food. Have lunch beforehand, have dinner after, sorted. No need for rank, massed-produced garbage.
dickyhale Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 well, there was no reason for this bad beer. we got all of this cash. and we cant even afford some decent beer? :S thats y were league 1.
londonsaint1604 Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 The bottles of Magners were fine Exactly, why can't they sell the beer in plastic bottles as well. You might even get served during half time if they did that.

They'll get it in for the match in quantities they know they're going to sell, and when it's sold out that's it until next time. They'll soon manage to gauge likely sales. Then we'll have a discussion on here about how the new owners should think ahead and order enough beer in advance and not run out which would obviously be disgraceful Logistically getting the beer in wouldn't work either as every line (which are different to the larger ones so would need replacing- as would the gas which is 70/30 rather than 60/40 and requires a different system) needs cleaning between barrels and each barrel needs to settle for between 24 - 48 hours without being moved before serving (the time depending on the brew). Not to mention a barrel of lager costs about £40 less so the club would never make a good enough GP to make it feasible. By all mean get a good lager but you won't get a decent real ale in a football ground served properly as the GP wouldn't make sense and it's a real skill to create the right conditions for ale to taste good (meaning paying more staff costs for real staff...) dubai_phil Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Simple answer - get the Cider Bus crew in from Glasto to run the bars. 200,000 people at the event, 30% always seemed to have their yellow paper cups, never had to queue for more than 2 minutes and yummy
Gigersaint Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 And to make it even better, when the missus asks why you've rolled home blind drunk and can't even remember the score, you can simply say you were just doing your own little bit for the club's future Thats ok, just as long as we don't start dressing badly, blowing bugles and missing half the game to show our support too! red&white56 Posted 23 July, 2009 Share Posted 23 July, 2009 Yeah, i had a cheese burger which was equally disgusting. I normally buy one of these for my nipper (outside SMS) when we're at the games - he's the age where he'll eat anything - but we call them "skank buggers" because they're so ................. Golden Balls Posted 23 July, 2009 Share Posted 23 July, 2009 What I would do for a good real ale inside the ground!!!! At cardiff they pour their pints from cans out of a fridge. The selection was wide aswell. Add that to a great low roof providing a great atmosphere, the match build up and half time was always fantastic!!! I'm sure it will change in their new stadium though. It's a system I've seen in lots of places: festivals as well as pubs. It isn't that difficult.
