exit2 Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Just to spoken to mate of mine who is very good friends with a current player. After the game AP went into the changing room called in all the pro squad even if they didnt play today and laid down some rules already. A quick summary is "I want us to get the winning habit quickly" "I expect us to win our home games from day one starting next week against Hearts" "Im big on discipline basically expects players to arrive training on time and for other "team events" "Present themselves accordingly in Public" "We are all this in together" "If you have to many lapses I will **** you off" Im not saying the players name, but he was very happy with these demands and more which he wouldnt tell me and said AP is here for the long term. Things will be done his way and his way only. I like AP more and more!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 No issues with any of that! Surely it's a code of conduct for any Pro player?

Kingsland Red Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 At last. No more sloppy unfit BWP style reprobates.
exit2 Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 No issues with any of that! Surely it's a code of conduct for any Pro player? I agree but looking at what has happened with players off the pitch, and with "players revolts" at staplewood etc, he is laying down the law quick.
sussexsaint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 "If you have to many lapses I will **** you off" *childish s******* I think I may have misread what was in the ***** Seriously though this is excellent news, the man means business and wont muck about - I like him more and more Now onto some seriously exciting signings please
Loyal Saint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Great to hear. That was on his birthday as well, imagine if they catch him on a bad day!
CityRanger Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 More from AP on the OS: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1726620,00.html
sotonjoe Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Sounds like this sort of regime is 'new' to the players, I dread to know what sort of ramshackle operation we'd been running before!
musesaint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Sounds like this sort of regime is 'new' to the players, I dread to know what sort of ramshackle operation we'd been running before! The one that got us into League 1 in 5 easy steps
suewhistle Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 "Im big on discipline basically expects players to arrive training on time and for other "team events" "Present themselves accordingly in Public" We have that with my Italian womens side! Grief if you don't let the manager know you can't make training or will be late. Match days always in team gear, etc etc. Still, good to hear..
lordswoodsaints Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 If it was me in the dressing room I would have shouted 'shut it pussy' in a polish accent and then pointed at rasiak or saga, that should get them off the payroll :-)
St.Jeweller Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Capello started his England stint with a similar statement, here's hoping we get off to a similar start wiping away those dreaded -10,COYR.
sotonjoe Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 The one that got us into League 1 in 5 easy steps well exactly ... that's just what I was thinking. Makes you wonder though doesn't it ... comes to something if players need reminding to come to training on time!
um pahars Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I agree but looking at what has happened with players off the pitch, and with "players revolts" at staplewood etc, he is laying down the law quick. Which players revolts are you referring to???? Good to see him lay down the law from the off and be clear about who is in charge and what is expected.
Block 5 Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Which players revolts are you referring to???? Good to see him lay down the law from the off and be clear about who is in charge and what is expected. Think he meant revolting players.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 "If you have to many lapses I will **** you off" guess the missing word lol
saintalan Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 guess the missing word lol pull/take/t**s/p**s/w**k/f**k ?
sotonjoe Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 pull/take/t**s/p**s/w**k/f**k ? You took three goes; surely that's cheating?
sotonjoe Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Nobody has gone for the 'r' word as used on match of the day yet then? (I'm too sophisticated to use it in jest).
Minsk Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I agree but looking at what has happened with players off the pitch, and with "players revolts" at staplewood etc, he is laying down the law quick. Great to hear and exactly what any new manager SHOULD do. Start off with an iron fist, take no crap and make sure they know you mean business. It is easy to loosen the reins (on occasion) when everyone has been doing the job they are paid to do at an acceptable standard. It is much more difficult to suddenly try to come down hard if you start off softly.
gonzo Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Nobody has gone for the 'r' word as used on match of the day yet then? (I'm too sophisticated to use it in jest). What word is that?

sotonist Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 I was wondering that too, but didn't ask for fear of ridicule (as if...) :-) re-promotion.
sotonist Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 sorry i'm totally out of context. it was just the silliest one i could think of.

At least his job is made a little easier by the fact that Dyer and BWP have already departed, and there are not too many players left from the end of the Burley era when discipline and fitness became dirty words.
kpturner Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 We will rape this league....and somebody actually said that on MOTD?
beatlesaint Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Good stuff. I am particulalry pleased with his stance on discipline. Some of these younger players need that - look how Shearer, Le Tiss, the Wallaces etc turned out after being under Merrington's strict regime - great players and very level headed, sensible men, not one of them walked around like Johnny Big Balls thinking they were the greates thing since sliced bread. Hopefully some of that will rub off on the Lallana's of this world, cos to my eyes that boy needs to be told pretty bloody smartish that he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is......he could well be exceptional one day, but he isnt very close to that at the moment.

Amen to that. Watch out for the Lallana Protection Squad, they'll be along in a minute. They don't realise they are making his problems worse by claiming he's 'LeGod Pt2'...he ain't even 'Flash Pt2' yet..
beatlesaint Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 (edited) Amen to that. Watch out for the Lallana Protection Squad, they'll be along in a minute. They don't realise they are making his problems worse by claiming he's 'LeGod Pt2'...he ain't even 'Flash Pt2' yet.. In fairness Flash could actually shoot towards that netty thing with the posts and cross bar that doesn't move no matter how many games you play And they can come along and stick up for him all they like but in my opinion the boy needs a bloody good talking to and a bit of footballing discipline installed in him, otherwise he will never make it big. One clever bit of footwork in the whole Ajax game does not make him class. I would really love it if he carried on the form/skill he showed at the early part of last season, but it looks to me like he has a hell of a lot of work and learning to do to get back to that let alone push on. Fan The Flames Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 ...and somebody actually said that on MOTD? It was Curbishly talking about a tackle. He used what I can only imagine is a training ground saying.

Matthew Le God Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 It was Curbishly talking about a tackle. He used what I can only imagine is a training ground saying. It wasn't Curbishley it was Pardew.
saint stu 20 Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 they were all out again last night getting ridiculously drunk and eating kebabs after the night out.....great way i suppose to celebrate losing a game and to keep in shape for pre season
Fan The Flames Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 It wasn't Curbishley it was Pardew. Just googled it and stand corrected. I always thought Pardew was a bit classier than that. Pardew out.

The lack of fitness really showed in the second half.
saint stu 20 Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 first hand saw all or the vast majority of the younger first team players. and it was chilli sauce

um pahars Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Just googled it and stand corrected. I always thought Pardew was a bit classier than that. Pardew out. Don't see the problem at all. Definitions can include: Any outrageous assault of flagrant violation An act of plunder, violent seizure, abuse, viloent attack, violent destruction; despolaition An act of seizing and carrying off by force To plunder or destroy All valid enough and just as saying we murcdered them, we slaughtered them or Benali butchered him, none of them are suggesting a henious crime took place.
Clifford Nelson Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 One of the rules should be a complete lack of celebrations in case of losing. The right to celebrate should be earned. In case of a loss, lock them into a room at Staplewood and feed them gruel until they repent!

At last, that's my perception of how the players have been treated in recent years. Back to basics for me.
