We couldn't get our usual seats in the Chapel as I was told that it was sold out. However form the Kingland I could see that my seats were free.

A good atmospehere for a pre-season. I do get very angry with people making me stand up as they want to leave early. We missed the last goal due to people streaming down out. Thousands left early, surely they could have held on to see the presentation as requested by the club.

I stayed. It wasn't much of a presentation, but we could've done it for the new owners' sake.

Same as, I stayed for the new owner. It wasnt much to ask really he saved the club! I am so so thankfull, thought it was a great croud though.

Shame people left early especially as ML was there.

Any decent pics of our beloved owner?

Really annoying when people do this. It's almost as if they're saying "FFS SAKE WE CAN'T BEAT AJAX THIS IS ****"

I really enjoyed watching Southampton and certainly Ajax were a joy to watch, their slow patient build up and the use of the width and the performance of Luis Suarez in particular really should be shown on tape again to our players. We lacked that composure on the ball and that willingness to close down straight away like they did, and hopefully our team will learn alot from this game. It's good we threatened them at times when we showed some ambition.

Early leavers = nobs

Agreed. I remember a game last year (Can't remember which) in which a fair few fans in the Kingsland left really early, like 70 mins gone, and the Northam turned on them. It was horrible seeing Southampton fans vs. Southampton fans but leaving that early just cos your team is losing is stupid.

would have been the charlton game.

shame people couldn't stay till the end, though ML was also uncomfortable in the limelight, it seems.

Yet another case of b u ll s h i tt in g ticket office staff or posters from this forum posting exaggerated ticket sales prior to the match. What happens? Many intending to buy or go at the last minute are put off thinking it'll be too late to get a ticket. Thursday some idiot posted on here that he'd been told there were already 26,000 tickets sold. Someone, somewhere neeeds to get this issue sorted out, as people are not turning up that could do.

And what about season tickets then? Got a long way to go to catch up with Norwich's 18,000 season tickets sold 6 weeks ago.

Many of the tickets "sold" were given out as freebies either with ST's or to schools. Not all of them were ever going to turn up, so if it was 21/22,000, 26,000 is about right.

nfortunately, there's nothing else to do up that way which is why they always sell so many.

I went today and, like a lot of fans, didn't expect to win or even draw today. I just knew that we would lose. The score wasn't as bad as I expected to be honest. I couldn't believe how many fans left early or just before the final whistle. God knows what our new owner must of thought of us. It was embarrassing and to me, bordered on rudeness. It was supposed to be the fans that sold the club to him in the first place. Goodness knows what he must have been thinking.

Was saying to my wife that it was ridiculous all those thousands streaming out when we're trying to make a good impression for ML - absolutely pathetic.

Liked the big banner from the Northam though :D nice touch.

Great reception for Alan Pardew, he'll definitely have recognised the passion Saints fans have and will be fully aware of the expectations.

Shame the last 60 minutes of the match weren't up to the first 30. Thought we started brightly but didn't really know what to do after the joke penalty was awarded.

I find it is the same every game lots of people leave with ten minutes or so to go so they can beat the traffic, I expect some of them still think we are in the championship as they never see the last minute goals. Win or lose I will always stay till the end as you never know what will happen with the Saints !

Just got home.

Had a great day and thought we were very competitive up to half time - cracking goal.

Second half we tired and were caught for pace time and time again.

MoM - Simon Gillett and Joseph Mills. Murty looked solid (hope the knee injury isn't too bad) but Rasiak - out for a country walk!

Totally agree about people leaving early. It's disrespectful to the new owners and also disrespectful to the memory of Ted Bates. My seat is on the end of a row and I spent the last 15 mins stood up while people left.

Hearts will be very interesting after Pardew has had them for a week.

Pretty sure that people weren't leaving because of the score. It was a friendly dwindling away with so many subs made late on for the sake of it.

It was a day out to see new owner/manager/future etc and some folk wanted a quick getaway. Whilst there will always be some who leave important matches early I dont think today typical, in my expereience, of a league match.

Just seen him on Sky Sports.

I think I need to sort out the contrast on my telly.

It's not your telly, he's just had a new sunbed installed at the mansion.

I left on 45 mins, not coz my team were losing but to get out on the razz and celebrate Saints new dawn, was an adhoc democratic group decision.

We should all calm down about who should be leaving when and what their motives are. Just sit tight and enjoy the game.

Remember - it's all good

I expect people left because they were bored stiff with Henderson's pathetic, dire, abysmal tactics.... might be worth a thread on its own actually....!

Agreed. If you pay your money you should leave when you feel like it. Many a time I've seen us 2 or 3 goals down and playing crud and decided not to stay until the end. I think it's better to walk out than to chant abuse at them or slow handclap etc.

Art has a point, although it should be pointed out the crowd was still double what Bristol had for the same opposition.

What as the score of Bristol v Ajax, anyone know?

The point is did you really expect after what has been happening lately, that we were gonna go out there and play brilliant football. I think anyone that thought we were going to give Ajax a run for their money must be deluded. We were never gonna beat them. I thought that most fans had gone there today to, yes to support our team, but also to show our new owner that we, as fans, were worth him buying our club. The attendance was not that bad tbh, but after being asked to stay in our seats for the presentation I couldn't believe that people were just getting up and going - in their droves.

I can understand that in a league game, when the team are playing like they just don't care, people leaving. Never done it myself, but can understand it. This wasn't a league game where every point counted, it was a friendly. Just don't think it gave our new owner a very good impression. Simples!

Would have gone, but assumed my free tickets as a renewing season ticket holder would have been automatically sent, no one said you had to ask for it when buying season tickets. think they need to sort this out, as said before do the people who live outside the area, and don't get the Echo, or have computers know what's going on with regard to renewing season tickets etc. Doesn't take much to send to all past ticket holders what the arrangements were/are. Didn't need to produce the forms (time constraint etc.) but at least tell us the fact that no postal applications etc.

100% agree with that; what SHE said, sorry!!! #-o

Credit to those very few that stayed for giving a generous round of applause to the Ajax team who I thought were excellent.

With you on that...I stayed and even asked if we could have several of their reserves on loan...;)

It was the first game ever I've left early.... but when your 2 year old has had enough... its time to go!

Good to be back though and I can't wait for the start of the season.

I agree but yesterday of all days it would have been nice if more people remained seated until the end - just to show the guy who saved us that we appreciated it. Surely that's not too much to ask?

I left with 10 minutes to go. Wouldn't do it for a competitive game, but it was a friendly and had got very boring by that point. By leaving 10 minutes early I got back to Bath an hour earlier than I would have done otherwise.

I'm pretty sure our new owner and staff can understand people leaving a friendly before the end!

never understood the mentality of leaving early just to beat the traffic. do these people leave early at the cinema as well?

Perhaps they would if there were 22000 other people watching the same flick!

I bumped into Markus Liebherr after the game; he told me that he had allocated a budget of £5million to be used on player transfers before the season started.

However due to the large numbers of disrespectful people who had left early, he had decided to adjust the budget allocation to £5.
