Amesbury Saint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Says we have premiership fans. need to bring one or two players in, need to win in pre season to get the winning habit. only 1 or 2 players?
Deano6 Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 What are "Premiership fans"? Just a way to ingratiate himself to the locals no doubt.
Amesbury Saint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 What are "Premiership fans"? . People who go to SMS to watch away teams like Man Utd, Arse etc
Viking Warrior Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 He was stating we have a premiership ground. Premiership training facilities and made a very positive comment about us the fans I beleive what he was saying is that our fans make give enough noise and support to the club that is the same as Premiership games. meaning the crouds are a lot less vocal in the championship and our league. Also stated wanted he winningdressing room not just the players but also the suppport staff. hasnt met the staff behind the scenes yet just the players
Black Sea Saint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I beleive what he was saying is that our fans make give enough noise and support to the club that is the same as Premiership games. meaning the crouds are a lot less vocal in the championship and our league. Surely it's the other way round.
Viking Warrior Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 Sorry Black Sea Im trying to give my interpretation on what he meant about us having premiership fans. I got the impression he was more than impressed with the welcome and support he and ML got but also te support throughout the game.
Viking Warrior Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 Joseph Mills stating the obvious . All lads excited with AP met him to day. Hopefully preparign for the future Mils wants to be part of the future need to impress and take opportunity. Can't type that quick
St Lightjaw Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I beleive what he was saying is that our fans make give enough noise and support to the club that is the same as Premiership games. meaning the crouds are a lot less vocal in the championship and our league No. I think he was implying that we now have premiership fans because of some clever thinking by our CEO. Sign posts in London to the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge now point in the direction of the M3 with "Park and Ride only 80 miles". Catering have been ordered to sell jellied eels and pie and mash to accommodate our new fan base.
Thedelldays Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Ffs only on here could the term 'premiership fans' get ripped apart and taken any way but the way it was meant
um pahars Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 WTF is Pardew doing speaking on the radio??? Why is he being rolled out as the Official Commentator??? FFS
Nexstar Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Then went on to say he didn't really know how many players would need to be brought in as he hadn't taken a training session yet.
kpturner Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Says we have premiership fans. need to bring one or two players in, need to win in pre season to get the winning habit.Where did you get to speak to him?
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Where did you get to speak to him? Radio
NickG Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Says we have premiership fans. need to bring one or two players in, need to win in pre season to get the winning habit. think we have basis of decent side but handful of class/exp signings needed. I would be tempted to get rid of Rasiak and Saga asap
Professor Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 1 or 2? Must be a typo surely he means 12 If the manager was to say that he planned to replace half the squad, he would hardly be able to keep the loyalty of any of the current players, who would all feel under threat, but nothing should be read into the term "one or two" as it could be any number.
Thedelldays Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 think we have basis of decent side but handful of class/exp signings needed. I would be tempted to get rid of Rasiak and Saga asap All well and good but we are too short on numbers and any sort of quality
miserableoldgit Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 (edited) What are "Premiership fans"? Just a way to ingratiate himself to the locals no doubt. Doesn`t take too long does it? Only on here would you get numpties disecting a complimentary remark in a live interview ("prem quality stadium, prem quality training facilities and prem quality fans") and turn it into a negative. Grow up! Edited 18 July, 2009 by miserableoldgit
david in sweden Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 What are "Premiership fans"? Just a way to ingratiate himself to the locals no doubt. Well.. one might read it as PR spin but as we had 27 seasons in Div.1 / Prem. you might well say that many in our fan base are used to Premiership football. Certainly a lot of fans are Premiership standard, and the ground is better than many present Prem.sides have ..it's his job to get the team upto the same levels.
Viking Warrior Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 I wish I hadnt bothered posting something as AP was speaking to Radio Solent. Hadnt realised (How niave of me) that someone would put such a negative spin on what he was saying. I for one was impressed with what he had to say even if some of you were not. I particularly like the idea of a winning dressing room comment AP has not taken charge of the team yet but we already have the odd person criticising him. Oh for a unite fan base.

um pahars Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I particularly like the idea of a winning dressing room comment Something that needs to be installed ASAP. One of my worries following relegation is how long that losing feeling will stay around the place.

Ffs only on here could the term 'premiership fans' get ripped apart and taken any way but the way it was meant Got to agree, surely we should have, by now, curbed our cynicism? I'm one of the worst but even I feel a sense of optimism!
Viking Warrior Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Posted 18 July, 2009 I ould rather be a drama queen than a hypochondriac ******s I think I have a headache comming on :cool:

Living away from Southampton I appreciate the effort you've made to report what AP has said. So don't get disheartened by the reaction of some.
lordswoodsaints Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Says we have premiership fans. need to bring one or two players in, need to win in pre season to get the winning habit. Ha ha.....all the premiership fans fooked off years ago,but they say they don't come anymore because of lowe or something......nothing to do with not being in the prem. Mind you I see a lot of them made the effort to turn out for the manu cup game last season.......bless em.
saint lard Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Now on the OS.... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1726620,00.html
saints-til-i-die Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I was impressed with what Alan Pardew had to say. I can't wait for the exciting times ahead (hopefully!)
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Already very clever management by AP.You don't come into a role and say you need 7 new signings and totally demotivate the players. You say you need 1 or 2 to keep everyone on their toes and motivate the current lot. With a few additions we have the basis of a decent team if he can get the best out of players like Rasiak,Saga,Schneidelin and Lallana and help players like Patterson,Mills and Gobern progress. If he signs Murty,I believe a pacy forward, winger and creative midfielder are the crucial positions to fill

SW11_Saint Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 Clear messages, sensible and pragmatic, but also showing real ambition. Can someone wake me up - I think I may be dreaming...
Chez Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I get the feeling he saw what I saw today. A few decent players, a few not up to the task and a side that still looks a little shell shocked from last season. He's got a fair bit of work today to create a side capable if winning a lot if games. He made me feel confident that we'll address some of these problems rather than bull**** and hope for the best. The money is clearly there for him to spend
SaintBobby Posted 18 July, 2009 Posted 18 July, 2009 I didn't punch the air at his appointment - but am warming to him very rapidly. The sort of head-screwed on, no nonsense manager we need. My ambitions for this season remain pretty limited though. Mid-table would suit me just fine (e.g. that's probably a top six finish before you take off the ten points) as long as we re-unite the club and are clearly starting to move forward for the first time in six years.
greg_hill Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Bear in mind he is well aware that stating how poor the whole squad are right now would not be the best bit of PR or player relations management he could achieve. That's the sort of thing Redknapp would have done and he was well known to be negative. Pardew has sent out a gentle message that yes, he is aware of the problem and will strengthen the squad but also will give others a chance to win their place back. Good on him.
saintdownunder Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 I see the future of the club as a marathon race not a sprint after AP comments A united supporter base all behind the manager and players will go a long way towards a push towards any success.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Says we have premiership fans. need to bring one or two players in, need to win in pre season to get the winning habit. Premiership fans? I assume he means the ones who will only come and watch premier league opponents or is he expecting average crowds of 25k and more for league games this season?
John B Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Clear messages, sensible and pragmatic, but also showing real ambition. Can someone wake me up - I think I may be dreaming... Yes I will wake you up it is all talk at the moment we are not a winning side. However that does not mean that Pardew will not get us winning soon but of course he may not as nothing is guaranteed in football but with money and stability he should
70's Mike Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Premiership fans? I assume he means the ones who will only come and watch premier league opponents or is he expecting average crowds of 25k and more for league games this season? Win a few at home and the crowds will top 20k
JohnnyFartPants Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 WTF is Pardew doing speaking on the radio??? Why is he being rolled out as the Official Commentator??? FFS Well done. You have invented an issue. Fair play though, it is a total one off. I have never heard any other fotball team manager on the radio. He is really going out on a limb and being totally bonkers, and clever you spotted it.
HurleyBurley Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Pardew in making innocent and friendly comments and TSWF tear it to shreads shock!!! You lot could argue over whether black is black!
dubai_phil Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 New, experienced manager, walks in, watches a friendly and states the bleedin' obvious. Oh happy days Just shows how easy this football malarky can be when you don't have to read prepared corporate media trained statements and actually KNOW what you are doing! I'll stick with the "it will take some time" feeling for the new season, but now for the first time ever there doesn't seem to be that nagging doubt at the back of the mind.

John B Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 Good interview though. Yes with the investment and a few new players things should be OK
