Pat from Poole Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Adam Hammill, Ali Dia, Lee Todd, Matthew Robinson, Jackobsen, Nillson, Davenport, Pericard; There you go, 8 players all worse than Jason Euell. Granted he isn't the best player we've ever had but far from the worst ever. His main problem was the fact everyone was so annoyed by his over the top wages and his initial spell of not being that bothered. Did well in the pearson run in and played ok for many of his games last season without ever really being exceptional. A decent list. You missed Graham Potter, Craig Maskell, Paul Moody, Alexei Cherednik and David lee though.
sotonjoe Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Plenty worse than Euell, and he seems like a decent enough professional. The level of abuse he gets is quite embarassing to be honest.
Arizona Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Neil Moss Mikael Nilsson- Darren Powell - Callum Davenport - Steven O'Halloran Adam Hammill - Jermaine Wright - Mark Draper - World Class Ryan Smith Vincent Pericard - Jason Euell Worst Saints XI I can think of, ignoring Ali Dia who was quite literally a joke. greg_hill Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Both could be useful squad players in League 1. However I hope that we build towards the future - and these guys aren't it! True, but as we found out last season it is equally important to have senior players with experience. Stern fits that role and of course he has a little pace and muscle that you will need in league one. Short term, HCDAJFU. A decent list. You missed Graham Potter, Craig Maskell, Paul Moody, Alexei Cherednik and David lee though. Didn't Maskell score for us against Liverpool on his return debut? According to wikipedia he is now player manager of Staines!

captainchris Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Euell should retire. Stern could score over 20 in this league. Agreed ....................................
BlakeySFC Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 I do think Euell and John would be VERY useful in League 1, same for Rasiak, Thomas, Perry and Murty...just need to get some good attacking midfielders/a makelele type that can get stuck in and we'll be perfect...3/4 players i reckon (+ keeping Euell and Sterny)

We had some Spanish or Portuguese defender on loan back in c. 2001. he was dire. Think he played once v. Arsenal. Jordan Robertson was also abysmal. Stuart Ripley and Kanchelskis were embarrassing by the time they signed for us. (the latter made worse by being the first player to inherit MLT's no.7 shirt). And Agustin Delgado.....good grief..... Professor Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 The Star has only mentioned SJ and JE because they are the only two players in the squad with any name recognition factor for the people who read their comic. "Read!" What am I saying! Pardew mentioned no players at all and since he doesn't start work until Monday, he wouldn't. AP is a high profile manager with name the tabloids recognise, so we might get to see a bit more about Saints in the press, but it doesn't mean anything written is remotely accurate. CLOTH EARS Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 I am undecided on Euell, but John and Rasiak could have a field day in this division 'IF' they are motivated enough to play at this level. I asked Mark Wotte about Rasiak on the night of the Totton friendly and he basically said that he doesn't seem interested because he wants to move away, I asked Mark if it was because Rasiak feels he is to good for League One and he nodded 'yes'. I agree with other comments made suggesting that we need an injection of pace into the team. I would like to keep Thomas at the back, but does he feel he is to good for this Division? IF he wants to be here we should keep him and buy another centre half to go alongside him. I feel that we would need as many as 4 or 5 new signings to make the squad good enough for a promotion push, but you can make that 7 or 8 IF the above mentioned players do not want to play in this division. eelpie Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 Jason Euell is by far the worst footballer this club has ever seen. For 'this club' you are speaking for yourself, unless you are appointing yourself club historian.

Did Alan pardew give a secret interview to The Star ..even before he had been appointed manager ? ....and if so ..why didn't he confide in the Saints fans first? a more blatant " space filler" I have never read. The Star obviously had a very quiet day in the Sports Office and did a lucky dip for names and rumours to circulate. If I was AP I'd sue them ! Matthew Le God Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 And Agustin Delgado.....good grief..... Delgado was a very good player, he was a class international as his goal scoring record in South America shows. He played well in the few games he played for us. The problem with Delgado certainly wasn't his ability. His problems were his attitude and injury record.

dronskisaint Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 I can't believe that some people don't recognise that the The Mule and John will be prefect for this league. This is the most valid take....we're in L1 this year & they both (on the right contracts vis we're in L1) can do a job. We had our best run last year when Euell started the games...against Ipswich he was outstanding aside from his goals. Stern would need to be fit though...you can only belly in so many goals! According to wikipedia he is now player manager of Staines! Yes he did, and it was the only goal he scored. I will always remember Lawrie Mac's exasperated response in his broad accent to a bunch of reporters about why we signed him: "He's gonna score loads of goals and we're all gonna be happy!" They don't make them like that anymore.

As you say, David, this is blatant page filler for a lowest quality possible paper which has never researched anything. It's the kind of stuff that is written because if you keep connecting people and events with speculation you will eventually be right. Not because you know anything, but statistically you can't be wrong all the time. Apart from that, John is crocked and unfit, and won't be signed by anybody before his back is mended and he has returned to fitness. And Euell, what exactly is it he is good at? Kenilworthy Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 >Kanchelskis were embarrassing by the time they signed for us. (the latter made worse by being the first player to inherit MLT's no.7 shirt). I am surprised by the number of times that Kanchelskis come up in this type of discussion. He was really only training with Saints as a favour on the part of WGS while he looked for something else and did well enough to get signed on a short term basis. He made one just appearance as sub against Everton in early 2002/3 - a game we won 1-0 against the odds - that really isn't enough to be called embarassing. david in sweden Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I think he scored in both 2002 and 2006 can't find stats on that, but you're undoubtedly right. AD was only with us in 2002 of course, but was a Saints player at the time. Ironic that he played in the World Cup but Strachan didn't want him in Saints line-up. A bit like Rasiak in one way, that he wandered around, rarely seemed to be in the game, but was usually on hand to put away half chances.

eelpie Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Euell Can jog the F*ck on hes a shocking. Proved it last season. His contributions under Pearson saved us from relegation at the end of the year before though. Perhaps, like the rest of them, he needs a manager who can improve his performances this year -- until we get better.
