Ex Lion Tamer Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 From Wikipedia: When Gary McAllister became manager, Prutton was moved to his natural centre midfield role and put in several man of the match performances.[6][7] He was one of Leeds' most consistent performers in the 2007-08 season having started over 40 matches.Sounds like he's still got it, i'd have him back, great to have a passionate player like him in the side
saint1977 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Yes for me - will give 100% and better than anything we have. Gillett is potentially better but hasn't quite got the volume of games yet although did well for Blackpool.
John B Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 From Wikipedia: Sounds like he's still got it, i'd have him back, great to have a passionate player like him in the side Dont think he is a Pardew type player but of course I maybe wrong
Saint Fan CaM Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Its simple - compared to Pulis and Wotton he would be like signing Gerrard. So yes, would have him back at CM.
saint1977 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 From Wikipedia: Sounds like he's still got it, i'd have him back, great to have a passionate player like him in the side I think he may have got League 1 player of the season in 2007/8 unless I imagined it. Best mate is a Leeds exile so I'll ask him.
SaintNeil90 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 would be a good signing. The midfield hardman we need.
sussexsaint Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 So Mr Exit - did you get a text back then? This chap asked an interesting question
John B Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Its simple - compared to Pulis and Wotton he would be like signing Gerrard. So yes, would have him back at CM. Mind you can say that about loads of players I would have thought
Dicko Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I don't understand some people's love for Prutton He's absolutely rubbish
Paul Chuckle Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 would be a good signing. The midfield hardman we need. your joking right? Midfield hardman he certainly isn't
Dicko Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I sometimes wonder where Saints would be right now, if Prutton hadn't missed that sitter at West Brom For that reason alone, I don't want him back
Thedelldays Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 why is harding so welcomed as a free with no club prutts has a better recent history yet.....
KMondo Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 We badly need a midfield general, a calm experienced head with the ability to read the game and pick out a killer pass. Not really attributes I associate with Prutton unfortunately.
Ampersound Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 We badly need a midfield general, a calm experienced head with the ability to read the game and pick out a killer pass. Not really attributes I associate with Prutton unfortunately. Perhaps Prutts has matured a little more since we last saw him play in the red 'n white. I'd be happy to have him come back.
ericofarabia Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 The standard of our catering has dropped since Lowe left and the standard of our clapping has fallen since Prutton left. We defo have a vacancy in this area, especially now that we don't have Rudi or Drew. The fans need to feel loved and appreciated and there are few better at clapping the fans than Prutton. It would be a great boost to the fans who travel to away games, especially at the end of a severe tonking on a cold winters evening in some northern hell hole, a bit of :smt041 and :smt039would make the journey seem worthwhile
corsacar saint Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 The volley he missed at WBA IN 2004/5, cetainly went a long way towards sealing our relegation. But hey we are now in league 1.
Arizona Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 The volley he missed at WBA IN 2004/5, cetainly went a long way towards sealing our relegation. But hey we are now in league 1. No, appaling management both of the team and at boardroom level went a long way towards sealing our relegation. Incidents like that, Kenton not getting within 5 yards of Van Persie, nobody marking Darren Fletcher, Higgy's own goal against 'boro etc. etc. cost us the odd point here and there. These things happen to every team. Kanu had a much worse miss from 1ft out for West Brom, yet they somehow stayed up. If you want to blame any one player, look no further than Crouch. His lame shot agaisnt Everton, miss from 3 yards against Villa, bottling it at Fratton Park, then swinging a punch at Nicola Ventola, getting sent off at Palace and missing the Man Utd game.
John B Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 No, appaling management both of the team and at boardroom level went a long way towards sealing our relegation. . So nothing to do with the players then It does seem a bit strange
Arizona Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 So nothing to do with the players then It does seem a bit strange We basically had the same team that got to the Cup Final and 8th place two seasons before, minus Killer and Oakley. Yes the players were to blame, but the failure to replace those two added to the retarded appointment of Wiggley were the largest factors IMO. Yes it can be argued that IF Prutton had scored we MIGHT have gone on to win that game and MIGHT have avoided relegation, assuming that every other result after that game was exactly the same. Overall, I think people are just looking for excuses to dislike Prutton. Remember Kelvin's howlers against Preston and QPR in the playoff season? I don't recall anyone saying he shouldn't have been offered a new contract because he cost us automatic promotion that year.

Could not agree more but getting a replacement for Svennson was going to be very difficult . I just think the defence was getting near is sell by date and the team peaked in 2003

I just think the defence was getting near is sell by date and the team peaked in 2003 when you look at the some of the players we had marsden claus telfer it is pretty amazing that WGS got what he did out of them and as far as he did really

spank_182 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Is there actually anything in this rumour? It's been hanging around for a while but hasnt happened yet. Was certainly good for Leeds the season before last(?) so could well still be a good signing for us.
scotty Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Wouldnt say no to Prutton coming back. As for captain, my money is on Murty! Cant be coincedence that he's here training and Pardew turns up. I was convinced Murty arriving meant Coppell was on his way here;), but I wouldnt object to prutton returning, it was good to see someone in the side who actually looked like they gave a flying f*ck. Plus, if we ever need a ref chinned, he's our man. And he's versatile, I just googled "DP", he gets around, especially on those german websites
SB Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I hear from a club employee who can't be named mr prutton is in Southampton for a week having talks about a possible return? Any thoughts! I for one would stick him straight in the middle and give hi the armband! Would be a great addition! Surely that wasn't a typo? Abit Biased as you know Prutton, but therefore wouldn't be stunned if this happened.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I'm obviously the only person on here who hasn't really seen Prutton play since he left us , but if he is anywhere near being the player he was before he left us he'd easily merit a place in our current midfield , a bloody nice chap as well BTW - although a few match officials might disagree .
thesaint sfc Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 (edited) I loved Prutton with every cell in my body. I would love to see him back in a saints shirt. He's a beautiful, beautiful man. He's basically a Champions League player who's just lost his way a little bit. Edited 22 July, 2009 by thesaint sfc
funkymojo44 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 No lads i think we should stick with Pulis lol FFS if prutton did come back i'd judge him on his overall performance. remember Davis when he first came and now he's been arguably our best player for the past 2 seasons. Having Gillett is great but Prutton is for me a better player for CM than Pulis or Wotton.
funkymojo44 Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 The volley he missed at WBA IN 2004/5, cetainly went a long way towards sealing our relegation. But hey we are now in league 1. Bet you are the type of soul that'll blame lowe if we dont do well this year. let it go man! Seriously look at our squad, we should be looking at decent CCC or good league 1 players and prutton fits the bill. Do you blame Nilsson for our relegation? Or maybe Harry Redknap? or Lundekvam?
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Do you blame Nilsson for our relegation? Or maybe Harry Redknap? or Lundekvam? You got it right with your second guess.
ChrisPY Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 No update from exit2 on the text to Mrs P means one of 2 things. 1- No reply. 2- He's in talks but you can't say anything. I reckon it's number 2, that's not to say he's definitely going to sign but fingers crossed.
sidthesquid Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I loved Prutton with every cell in my body. I would love to see him back in a saints shirt. He's a beautiful, beautiful man. He's basically a Champions League player who's just lost his way a little bit. I wouldn't quite share your man-love of him, but I would be very happy to see him back. A good combative pro who also came across as a articulate and decent bloke - the sort of character who might be up for the challenge of helping some of our lads change their defeatist mentality
eelpie Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 Never fogiven him for missing an empty goal from 6 yards out away at WBA the season we got relegated from the Prem. Had he put that away it could have been a different story. lol Had he not got himself banned for his 'red-mist' moment we possibly may not have been relegated. He was sorely missed in the last weeks of the relegation season.
SFC Forever Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 A lot of under 21's don't continue improving and then slowly fade away.
Calvin Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 I would like Prutton to be a Saints play again. I still believe he has got it. He will be a great asset, but comparing the square in which we have here at the moment. The squad we have are a load of crap. Loook at the pre season results for example. It is looking bad. How can you not win any pre season games, considering the low standard of teams in which we faced. It's a pathetic sight. We need Prutton, for motivational reasons and he is good with helping and motivating the younger lads. We really need passion within the current Saints squad as there is no forwardness. It seems that the start of the season will be dreadful at this rate. we maybe rich but the build up will take time, but we need to build up quick if we are going to survive. Prutton will help our cause to survive
Burnsie Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 A no-trick pony who disgraced the club against Arsenal, both with the "tackle" (often overlooked) and what happened after.
saint_stevo Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 A no-trick pony who disgraced the club against Arsenal, both with the "tackle" (often overlooked) and what happened after. He has determination and is the kinda player we have needed for a while. A Nutter. He disgraced nobody, it was quality!
pap Posted 22 July, 2009 Posted 22 July, 2009 A no-trick pony who disgraced the club against Arsenal, both with the "tackle" (often overlooked) and what happened after. People make mistakes. The true test of character is whether they atone for them. Prutton has undoubtedly had a lot of time to reflect on his ten match ban, and has probably wondered what difference he could have made without the red mist moment. That has /got/ to be his worst (ahem) professional moment of his career. Unless he is the footballing equivalent of a goldfish, he will not have forgotten that day and he'll be reluctant to repeat those events. We need players who are passionate but won't get themselves sent off. I believe Prutton is now that man, and has a lot to teach our younger players.
beancounter saint Posted 23 July, 2009 Posted 23 July, 2009 Around 5 years ago, I acquired 4 goldfish. The fish formerly known as Prutton sadly passed on to the Great U-Bend in the Sky yesterday - not sure if this is significant? For the record Phillips and Beattie are still going strong, albeit Phillips doesn't quite have the fine yellow colouring he had as a young fish. Poor old Crouchie only lasted a few weeks after we got him!
SaintRobbie Posted 23 July, 2009 Posted 23 July, 2009 1) why would we want Prutton when we have sh1t loads in da bank and can afford anyone? 2) Offering us Prutton is like offering Man City some cash, they dont need it and we dont need him! 3) He could maybe clean the boots of our new international superstars, but cant think he'd be any good at that either? 4) He doesnt look in the best of shape these days.... LOL! I think Prutts would be a fine addition. Knows the league and a Saint.

Davenport isn't even close to those two bottlers.
