Season prediction - now we have a manager,

This has got to be a stabilising season to remain in League 1.........it will take time to rebuild and I wouldn't be surprised if still in relegation places at christmas, and maybe around half way by end of season...........I just think the current crop of players are pretty weak and disjointed and fans need to have a good deal of patience for the upturn to start to show

Swiss - slow steady methodical reliable successful

For us I would imagine Organised, professional and analytical to ensure that mistakes are learnt from and lessons learnt, resulting in slow gradual improvement in efficiency and accuracy that will eventually lead to quality and relaibility that comes at a price but that everyone aspires to and wants to have.

Sort of like moving from the Sinclair Watch of Rupert's era through to IMHO a nice sporty classy Tag rather than a flashy egotistical Rolex clone

However knowing the Swiss as management, they will have their plans and the employees will have theirs, expect some crunching when the emergency loan fees to cover injuries come in above budget.

So IMHO a slow start, a few false starts but a noticeable improvement during the season.

Will we be fast enough to do anything this year? probably not, but I think we will become good enough to enjoy the ride and the excitement and to be bouncing around at the edge of the mix.

This season, quiet confidence in professionalism and processes versus last season's pure hope that the rabbit would come out of the hat bought at Oxfam

But next season, oh yes as reliable as a proper Swiss Watch - not the cheaper ones that need batteires replacing, more like the ones that only stop working perfectly when you don't move for three days - this will so work

Oh and other prediction

We'll find a new DMG to moan about everyweek - that's been going on since the John Sydenham days.

We'll have fights on here, pros and anti's and the you know who's will still be muppets/trolls or just acting their mental age - but that's why we love it!

Unless Liebher opens his cheque book fast, this could well be yet another false hope/dawn - he needs to spend about half his wealth (1.3 billion) to make us a decent side imo

if he has ambition he will do this

Will you join us back on earth if he spends 1.3 billion?

If we can get within 10-15 points of play-offs by mid-January, I think Mr Liebhers chequebook might well open for that concerted promotion push. Too early to say if this is acheivable though.

I disagree that a good start is vital, we know we need several new faces and we could well be looking at the end of August before we have assembled a squad that Pardew is happy with. (So don't go getting all upset if we lose or draw most of our first few games).

1.3 billion for a decent side? You could get sixteen and a half Ronaldos for that!

And to actually answer the question heart says play offs, head says lower mid table

1.3 billion is nothing. Trust me

You're right. You couldn't even get a decent meal in a restaurant with that these days.

Back in the real world, I think a lot depends on our strike force. If Rasiak and Saga get motivated and commit for the season, we will bang in a lot more goals.

Then, we just need to strengthen in the midfield and at the back. Do we still have the option to buy De Seijs?

I call lower mid table this year unless we make some very rapid signings.

The long term future of the club is far more important than the result of this single season.

Survival in this division and the creation of the foundations of a sustainable rebuild of our club must be the primary aims of this season.

The current squad needs a rebuild, it is likely to take some time.

Anyone with expectation of finishing higher than mid-table is adding pressure where is it not needed as part of this process. We all need to have patience.

Mid-table would be a very satisfactory result this season.

Anything higher than that would be a wonderful bonus, while hoping for this it should not be expected by anyone.

It will look a lot worse than it actually is for most of the season. Knocking off the full 10 points up front is big distortion - it's a much better reflection if you knock 1 off after 4 games, 2 off after 8 etc.

If AP makes some good signings, which I am sure he will, I could easily see us keeping pace with the leaders on this more realistic basis.

We should make the play offs with a bit of modest investment. I doubt a 61 year old billionaire will want to spend too long in league 1. Even the top two is not out of the question.
