NickG Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Now we know its def -10 points and we have AP as manager where do you think we can realistically aim for? Including -10 points, using last season's table as guide we would need 2.1 points per game for automatic promotion 1.8 points per game for play offs 1.5 points per game for mid table 1.3 points per game to avoid relegation
Scummer Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 With the team we've got now, lower mid table. With a few signings, play offs.
Baj Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Considering the -10 points, skeleton squad, new manager, Midtable would be adequate.
Ohio Saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Play offs for me......And I am being optimistic.
sussexsaint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Depends largely on what signings we get I'm afraid we have a rag tag assortment left and before we get all that sorted out its very hard to call - with no decent signings and a few of the ones left leaving I would be happy with 'consolidation' this season to start with
Saintjersey Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 It's very hard to say at this stage as he has yet to impose himself on the team. If we stayed with the exact squad at this current point in time I reckon we would be lucky to avoid relegation. However, with the correct signings, I would say mid table at least maybe pushing for play offs.
NickG Posted 17 July, 2009 Author Posted 17 July, 2009 win all home and about 3 away, draw the rest and we are up! Really hard to predict and think the start is vital
CWD Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 With a few players.... 8th but we could sneak into the play offs
brmbrm Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Mid-table: a season of survival, rebuilding, consolidation and building a squad for next year. But you never know.....
Saint Richard of Woolston Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 I agree with the mid table forecasts. Improving throughout the season, finishing upper mid table would do for me. But then you are only a very few points off of the play offs. But mid table would actually 'do' for me.
Arizona Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 With our current squad, we could have Mourinho in charge and still go down with the -10. As it stands, I have faith Pardew will bring in a few decent players in this League and we will end up with mid-table security. Patience is the key here. As long as we're no heading towards League 2, I'm prepared to write off this season and build a squad geared towards next year. A playoff spot would be nice, but highly improbable IMO.
trousers Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Last year I predicted automatic promotion. This year I am shutting the **** up
saints_is_the_south Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 At the moment, mid table. Ask me again come the 1st September tho when hopefully we have some good new players in & have made a good start to the season.
Foxstone Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 In the top 10 just missing the play-offs ! But winners of the Johnstones Paint Trophy ! Would settle for that this season...
Prince Jazzbo Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Mid table would suit me, as long as we eliminated the threat of relegation relatively early. I couldn't go through another one of those seasons.
Son of Bob Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 I think 11th or 12th is realistic but with some good signings we could scrape the plays offs.
stevegrant Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Top 10, just missing out on the play-offs, I reckon.
offix Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Too early to tell. Without knowing what players are leaving and what players are coming in no sensible prediction can be made. But in terms of what I would be happy with: mid-table survival. I would be elated with a play-off spot
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Went to Ladbrokes earlier and put £5 on Saints to reach the playoffs at 4/1. Same odds on P*mpey to get relegated. I think Saints reaching the playoffs is do-able, and I hope we do!
Ziggy Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Depends if we can win more than a couple of home wins next season! I think we'll do well if we finish in the top half.
Under Weststand Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 I think its all about putting the pieces in place for next year to be honest. With the time period he has between now & the start of the season, its difficult to expect to much at the start. If we get off to a flyer who knows but I'd expect a bit of a learning curve with maybe a late run for the play-offs being optimistic. I'd be happy with upper mid table right now, anythig else is a bonus
ottery st mary Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Definite Play offs....FA Cup final winners..Double Wembley Winners.... As I will be there tomorrow coaching from the stands...A win AND THREE POINTS TO START US OFF.
Thedelldays Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Top 10 would be a good season and a solid start playoffs (even in defeat) would be superb.. NEXT season (should we still be in league 1 is all about promotion IMO
Professor Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 The current squad is weaker than the team that achieved relegation last year so as people have said on here, its all down to the signings. I'd only give first choice places to about four or five of the current squad so for me, we need seven or eight players in, and a few more to leave. If AP does build a team capable of automatic promotion, the minus 10 would still leave us in a play-off place and if they achieve that despite the points handicap, that team should win through, but AP has to move quickly to shape his squad.
Kadeem Hardison Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 My prediction for this season: Champions League runners up, FA Cup win and Premiership champions (unbeaten).
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 I just wan't consistancy. happy with 10th upwards, play offs a real bonus. i want a settled side, players suited for our position, in their favoured positions, and I want this board to have a year of disucssing football not board rooms !! Not much to ask for !! repeat of reactions on SSN in a mo too....
spain saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Can't believe i am the first!!! We will walk this league!!
Professor Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 If we do reach the play-offs despite the -10, we should win through. But its a long road....
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Consolidation = mid table, year one play offs or automatic into CCC, year two play offs/fail, year three auto promotion to Prem, year 4 who knows year 5 but will need sugar daddy style money to compete
martyg1950 Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Can't believe i am the first!!! We will walk this league!! Reason(s)?
martyg1950 Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Given where we from, staying up will be a result, anything else is a bonus. Any realistic plans to get back into the CCC and beyond start NEXT season, not this one.
surrey1saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Depends on a few things. How much money will Pardew have to spend, who he gets in and luck! Mid table lowest, play offs highest.
S-Clarke Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Playoffs. Why can't we make them? Leeds had -15, finished 5th and got to the final. I'm not settling for mid-table this season and i honestly don't think im being unrealistic in expecting a playoff push to start from mid-November. I'm not understanding the posts from people who are saying ''staying up will be a result'' - we've got to think higher than that!!! We will bring in players now and we have some clout (at league 1 level) to compete and bring in good players at this level. If we keep the likes of Adam and 2 out of Stern/Saga/Rasiak - then we're a good bet.
sotonjoe Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 i predict we'll play 46 games, win some lose some and perhaps even draw some. I think we'll draw more than we win or lose.
NickG Posted 17 July, 2009 Author Posted 17 July, 2009 Now we know its def -10 points and we have AP as manager where do you think we can realistically aim for? With Pardew and hopefully few signing we should be one of the better teams in the division, if we are we should be able to perform as the figures in bold.
saint lard Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 comfortably in mid table would be great. However,i think we will finish just a couple of places and points above the relegation zone.
Big John Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 (edited) Can't believe i am the first!!! We will walk this league!! Likewise (re being first) I fear that we will be relegated at the present time. Sorry, but I just think with the current situation (squad, -10, 4 down, lack of preparation) we are heading down. I hope to be proven wrong. I accept that it a different set of circumstances this time around, but as it is still fresh in the memories; last year it took us 2 months and 9 games to get past the 10 point barrier. The following month only resulted in a haul of 2 more points. As I say, it is different in many many ways, but what else do we have to go on right now? Edited 17 July, 2009 by Big John
spain saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Reason(s)? it was a joke!! I think mid table or scrape the playoffs would be a great result!
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Play offs.We start this league with no debts and no doubt will be able to get some good free signings and loans.Leeds did not had that luxary and still made the play offs. What they did have was brilliant support from their fans cue our role next season If Markus opens the cheque book for a couple of million and brought in say Ricky Lambert and Zak Whitbread aswell as a few frees like Murty & Holland and kept 2 of John,Saga & Rasiak I'd be very confident. AP has lots of contacts so there could be some very shrewd signings for this league
um pahars Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 Upper part of the table, but not in play offs. IMHO nNext season will be our promotion push.
