Charlton Fans

Please excuse me during this Charlton Love in but as someone whose seen their fans in all their, I'll pass on the love...

The day I saw that **** smack a child in the head just whilst walking past was enough for me. The numerous other scraps and tussles just added fuel to that fire...

So Colinjb, Washsaint, take your comments and place them them where the sun doesn't shine. I don't like Charlton, think nothing of Charlton and wouldn't bat an eyelid if they folded tomorrow...

Yes, and I have seen Charlton's unpleasant fans in action. I have also seen some of ours at away games in the past and cringed. I'm not associated with Charlton in any way but I just don't think it's fair to judge 20000+ of their fans on at most, 200 knobheads. I've been offered out by one of OUR cretins at the Reebok before for a remark the bloke in the row behind ACTUALLY made. Still, couldn't get this point across to the neanderthal carrot-cruncher who was so hard he offered me out holding a young child. Great parenting. Nevertheless, I know most Saints fans are not like that and have at least 2 brain cells.

As a Charlton fan, i've never had a real issue with Southampton at all. The Maze Hill thing and the incident that preceded that were isolated, and restricted to just a small few that go for that sort of thing.

However, there have been a couple of incidents in recent years that have really upset those that have witnessed them or been caught up, because it has involved people who are not like-minded. Your yoof lot kicked it off quite badly in our Liberal Club, which is a family working mans club a year ago, and quite a lot of non-trouble people got caught up in that, and last season at St Mary's your idiots decided it was fun to scare all the kids on the family coaches, throwing bottles etc. The season before at St Mary's (when we got the late winner) my wife and i walked into a group of about 50 of yours just as they were coming out the bushes by the park entrance all with bottles, so someone was going to get a good ambush behind us.

As an outsider, you appear to have a growing band of idiots that are starting to give a decent club a bad name. I always thought it was Pompey on the coast with the idiots, you seem to be getting a few now (and no doubt they will be proud to read that).

If we were asked by a club who just appointed Redkrapp as manager, they'd get the same responses from us.

He was utter ****e here...and Pardew was utter ****e at Charlton, but it doesn't make them bad managers when backed properly (as they have actually both proven in other managerial jobs)

True, sadly.

I know a few people who are Charlton fans and have been down to the Valley with them, even sat in their end when we played them there last season, and all were a great bunch. No trouble, nice as pie to me although they knew I was a Saints fan sat in their end. Their local is for both home and away fans and in fact encourages it and takes photos of every away group that go there for the games and has them on their wall.

Personally I think it's a shame that a lot of clubs fans are not more like Charlton fans imho!

That will be the same Liberal Club whereby people were being offered out before it kicked off.

The welcoming party outside may have had something to do with the group of Charlton giving it the big one in the ground during the game.

The recent Charlton rivalry was also started by Charlton kicking off in Boogies (or wahtever it is called now) months before Maze Hill.

Hardly the one sided account you're trying to make out.

Seemed to be Pardew they have a problem with on that thread, rather than us?

I don't particularly care for them, but that's mainly because of their attempts to expand their catchment area into North/Central Kent with cheap coaches etc., which takes business away from non-league clubs. There's a score of clubs above them in the ol' hate list though :)

But have to admit it was dead funny last season after the home game, when a load of them came out of the ground thoroughly underestimating just how ****ed off everyone was!

It is pleasing that only a small minority of posters on this thread have chosen to be gratuitously offensive about Charlton and reveal an ignorance of Charlton's history. I believe that "Woolwich" Arsenal were forced to move to Highbury because Charlton possessed all the support South of the river! Even after WW2, the Valley attracted massive crowds and the team included top rank players.

Sadly, modern Charlton supporters include undesirables, but we are not exempt from that scourge, I believe.

After our recent near brush with extinction, I feel a little sympathy for Charlton fans(only a little;)) but for now I shall woot( am I still allowed to use that word?) for Alan Pardew.:D

I wonder how Leeds fans thought of Brian Clough? Or United fans thought of Alex Ferguson until that Mark Robins goal? Or Blackburn fans felt about Roy Hodgson? Or Chelsea fans feel about Scolari? I also challenge people to name more decent Strachan signings than bad ones.

My point is, everyone has bad spells as managers. This was Alans.

Please don't tell me you tried to draw a parallel between Pardew and Clough!

obviously you cant see his point...

(im sure you did)

i can, but i thought he might be better off given a narrower list examples who had more in common!

Clough and Pardew had an entriely different set of circumstances dictating their arrival and departures from Leeds and Charllton!

And we have such good relations with Southampton... will certainly stoke it up a bit more!

Glad its the Saints, as their fans are tossers and have got a beauty now as Manager.

I know we can easily dismiss this as sour grapes but it sits a bit uneasy with me ...

I see, so now I can't dislike a club then without the pc brigade scouring soccerbase to remind me of Charlton's history eh?

Funny how I can insult Charlton's history and get slagged of left, right and centre and yet none of my critics have once broached the subject of Charlton fans violence.

Yes I know all Charlton fans aren't violent hooligans but that doesn't stop me not liking the bloody club or is personal opinion banned on here? So Charlton have history, they also have a history of violence and that's what I remember thank you very much..

Having seen numerous occasions of Charlton fans being violent tossers I'll stick to my opinion... which I am fully entitled to without being insulted...

We seem to be a laughing stock up there and I hope Pards, the team and us can shut them up when we visit the Valley.

An opinion I agree with totally, have seen more trouble at Charlton than anywhere else including Portsmouth. Palace fans are almost as bad.

The above is true unfortunately, the scenes outside St Mary's were disgusting last year. I have nothing against Charlton at all and have always got on really well with their fans when I have been up there.
