Red and White Army Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 By all intents we should not need too much of ML's cash because as a club standing on its own we have no debt/mortgage to service and all income can therefore be spent on the team. How do you know we have no debt left? I would be very surprised if our creditors did not retain some interest in the club going forward.

chrisobee Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Great news its now resolved. I'm happy with this appointment. There were probably 5 or 6 others who I would have preferred the Pardew but a great deal more that I would have hated to see. Welcome to the club Alan, do us a favour and sign some players though. Thank you! Some new players, do we need any I have no doubt that will be one of his 1st aims though to be fair he'll need to assess what we already have though I would imagine Henderson and Co if staying could give him a good idea, ie we need about 9 or 10 new players ! EBS1980 Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 We can dream lol Well just noticed that Pardew was Charlton manager when Lita went on loan to them in 08. It's obvious we are going to be linked with players that have played for him before. He hasn't been picked up yet so why not put in the call. rolosfc Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Very pleased with the appointment. Good lower league track record and did reasonably with West Ham once in the Prem. We were never going to get Strachan back and a big name manager wouldn't have definitely brought success. Alan Pardew's Red and White Army! COYR! Supersubpuckett Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Great appointment, spot on - plenty of valuable experience. Unsurprisingly the deluded on this forum aren't happy but I'm not sure they ever would be. If we can get some decent players in we should have a good season. Also huge relief its not Tony Adams. Fan The Flames Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Slightly underwhelmed just like when GS got the job, so it could be a good signing. Hasn't got the wow factor we may have been after but a good solid performer that could do really well. You can only rely on the wow factor to fill the stadium for so long, a winning team is the best way to fill it. So good luck AP. All manager appointments are a gamble and all you can do as a chairman is limit the gamble as much as you can and it seems that ML has again made a good decision. Its all so diferent than recent years, heres hoping for exciting times ahead.
Miffy Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Well Happy with AP Similar to GH and WGS when they arrived. Good previous form with recent setbacks from which they have learned. I really like the way things have panned out in the last 2 weeks. Some new players, an early season run of form, and the new revolution will be underway! dronskisaint Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Welcome Alan Pardew Time to get behind every part of the set up now & there's a chance for the play offs which, I guess, would put us a year ahead in the plan. ChrisPY Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1725046,00.html 'First Team Manager'. Is that like a head coach?? Good appointment IMO and I'm pretty sure he'll have been assured financial backing. No way would he have taken this job otherwise as if he fails here then his managerial career is probably over. Money will go a long way to securing AP's success. Happy this morning.
L1Minus10 Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Happy with that. I don't think Coppell or WGS are after an immediate return to football s he's the best we could have hoped for. Young enough to do well and be here for 4 years plus. It's a manager in the WGS/Pearason mould as opposed to the useless and/or disinterested that we've had since relegation. Welcome Alan... SaintRichmond Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 AP is a very very good solid appointment IMHO ......... ( and would surely have had an offer from a CCC Team in due course ) He is "street wise" at Div 1 level, and will know what it will take to get out of this league I hope that us fans will be realistic in what type of Football to expect, ie, do we want to get out of Div 1 OR do we want to watch pretty pretty stuff and then get kicked to hell in the final third GOOD LUCK to Alan Curbishly, and WELL DONE to Messrs Leibherr and Cortese for getting him:rolleyes:
TheMidfieldGeneral Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 I'm concerned that there is a Marks and Spencer's carrier bag stuffed with training gear sitting in the rain outside a house in Warsash. Someone should go collect it. Very disappointed with this appointment but I suppose I was getting carried away with the speculation - specifically Coppell. The club will now have to attract fans back to watch League 1 football by topping the League instead of surfing a wave of enthusiasm that another bigger name might have generated. Still given where we are, we may not have had a choice. Welcome Mr. Pardew. I`LL second that.. Not an appointment to get the town buzzing but a solid enough fella who knows English football and has crossed the promotion finishing post. Yeah I'm slightly underwhelmed too, which is perhaps a little unfair, but judging from the amount of posters on this thread that say they are merely 'happy with the appointment' I think my reaction is quite common. GAS Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 This is unexpected. I reckon he is a good choice for getting us back into the CCC and possibly the PL thereafter. But then ? Seems like a middle-term appointment. But what the hell, with a couple more years under his belt, even that may click. We could have ended up with a lot, lot, worse. But then? God I hope there is a but then, funny how you even make us getting back in the PL sound negative.

sidthesquid Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 This appointment is proof that the ambitions of the Swiss are average at best. I was going to start a We want Pardew out thread as a joke, but I guess you've beaten me to it. He's a good, solid appointment - a guy with a proven track record and no baggage. I expect, like you, they wanted Jose Mourinho, but he's a bit busy at the moment, so in the meantime Alan Pardew will do just fine
derry Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Radio Solent news, deal tied up early hours of the morning. Good luck Alan, new start for all. Couldn't you sleep? At least he is traditional, Reading was good, WHU initially but deteriorated at WHU, then Charlton was a disaster. I'm prepared to give him a fair chance. My first reaction was, it was an uninspired middle of the road safe appointment. He will bounce the players up a gear which will be important. I'm not sure he is going to raise the supporters adrenaline levels, or that there will now be a rush to buy season tickets because of his appointment. It may need a run of good results to do that. It will be interesting now to see the comings and goings of the players and what sort of emphasis he puts on new signings. I just hope he plays 4-4-2 with proper width and quickly sorts out the dead ball situations and the poor coaching. Maybe some of the players will learn to kick the ball properly. WestSaint Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Yes it is an excellent choice Appointments such Keegan and Strachan would have generated huge expectations from us that if they had been unable to meet could have backfired. ericofarabia Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 As mentioned by many other posters, considering the situation we are in, this is a great result. A manager with experience at this level (and how to get out of it [-o Given the choice of Pardew or Hart (who looks like keeping the Skates job in The Prem) I know which one I'd choose. And lets be thankful it wasn't The Donkey FFS All the talk of WGS was a great diversion, and I take my hat off to all those behind the scenes who kept all the rumours of APs appointment to an absolute minimum. It wouldn't surprise me if WGS was in on the Red Herring ploy at Staplewood . Not sure if L1 (Div 3 old money) would have been an ideal backdrop for WGS to manage in, as his expectations would have probably far outweighed the capabilities of the players and led to a lot of frustration (but interesting post match interviews ). Who knows we may get him yet as DoF. At long long last we can actually start to focus on the Football side of things, although the next few weeks will hopefully also be dominated by transfer news, but please remember the new owners will not be chucking silly money into a bottomless pot, they have clearly stated they have a long term plan for stability and progression upwards. A few astute signings to bolster the side up and then a bit of a spend in The Jan sales to see us into The layoffs is probably a realistic (but by no means easy) objective this season. At long last my faith in Fridays has been restored :smt023. Patience will be needed as well, don't read too much into it when we get rolled over by Ajax on Saturday. The real world starts at home to Millwall, which given Pardew's past association with both WHU and Charlton, should mean we will at least have a highly motivated manager on the touchline

glkdcdes Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 The good news he is a manager who will feel he has something to prove after Charlton. He has the ability and will be so motivated to do well. He must be buzzing with the potential of our club. Another tick in the jobs well done box for the new regime. Next tick please, 4 or 5 new players as our current bunch unfortunately fall short over all... Good luck Mr Pardew
mikee Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 This has the hallmarks of the Strachan appointment-except I am more excited about this than I was with Strachan. Think it will turn out to be an inspired choice. I also felt that Strachan had a tendency with us to bottle it on the big games - such as the cup final (and preceeding league match) where as Pardew has a track record of relishing taking on the big boys and attacking them. Will be interesting to see how quickly he can stamp his authority on the team. Good first major decision by the new owners which is also encouraging. Smirking_Saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 I am very happy with this appointment TBH, although, strangely it has taken me a good 10 minutes to decide on this, whether that is down to it being 8 o clock or the fact that, as many have stated, it isn't quite the WOW factor that we had convinced ourselves it would be. Nethertheless a very good manager IMO, plays a decent style of football, has a good pedigree and i would imagine he is pretty disciplined with his squad which is what we need really. As for spending, he needs to start quickly and begin to rebuild, it is glaringly obvious that we have not got the squad to cope, probably would not need huge investment but a good 4 to 5 fresh faces to spruce the club up. It would not surprise me if he was backed either, if i was a manager coming in it would be said in the interview that we needed investment and equally that it will be a big(ish) task to get us promoted this season. But, considering the tripe we have had for the majority of the Lowe years and that we are league 1 i am very happy. Lets all give him our backing saturday, for once as a saints fan i am very optimistic. COYR's
