But after the drive to work and mulling it over it does make so much more sense going for Pardew rather than a Strachan or Keegan appointment. All very Germanic so far, no leaks during the takeover, no leaks before a manager appointment, solid financial base, quietly impressive all round................who's to say we scrape into the play offs this year and finally get promoted on a penalty shoot out.

My opinion remains, irrespective of who was put out there, if AP was on that list would of taken it without hesitation.
um pahars Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 A sound appointment for me. A pretty decent track record and I just think he has that something (i.e. a bit of fight and ambition) that we will need over coming seasons. I also think he has a point to prove which we will hopefully benefit from.

Solid former defender that won't take any **** and has firm enough shoulders to cope with managing a club of our size. I didn't think KK or WGS were ever realistic so if you look at possible candidates for a third tier club Pardew looks a very decent option. I just wonder if his appointment will be inspirational enough to bring fans back. Perhaps some very decent early signings and a couple of wins early doors will do the trick.

A quiet but thorough takeover, a similar hunt for a manager, the season ticket system was up and running immediately, we are still against the clock but everything is happening. Taking over a business that was on life support can't have been an easy thing and I am impressed. Right Mr P, you need to bring in approx fifteen players, you have a week or two, get on with it, there's a good chap!
chrisobee Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 I cannot say I am overwhelmed by the prospect as he has the charisma of a house brick but there is no doubt he has extensive experience and contacts at a higher level and we have to accept we are a League 1 side. After his Charlton near death experience I hope that he has been committed a level of funds to get us promoted this year. Does Sir Alex Ferguson have charisma ? Rhetorical question !!

Managerial Stats Total 463 Won 197 Lost 145 Drawn 123 Win % 42.54 Agreed. This could be a great appointment (I didn't like the way he left Reading, but his track record speaks for itself).

I'm sure he is, I can remember him scoring a header for Palace in that famous 4-3 semi-final win over Liverpool at Villa Park. Will have a point to prove to a few people so Pardew won't lack for motivation - something that we haven't seen from anyone at SFC since 2003.

Personally, and I'm only guessing, I suspect many WHU fans want someone with a bit more charisma for want of a better word. Anyway, I'm happy enough so don't really care what the fans of other teams think

For me the question is 'has AP got what it takes to get us back to the prem?' - The answer is definately. A manager with experience at this level (and how to get out of it [-o Given the choice of Pardew or Hart (who looks like keeping the Skates job in The Prem) I know which one I'd choose. And lets be thankful it wasn't The Donkey FFS All the talk of WGS was a great diversion, and I take my hat off to all those behind the scenes who kept all the rumours of APs appointment to an absolute minimum. It wouldn't surprise me if WGS was in on the Red Herring ploy at Staplewood . Not sure if L1 (Div 3 old money) would have been an ideal backdrop for WGS to manage in, as his expectations would have probably far outweighed the capabilities of the players and led to a lot of frustration (but interesting post match interviews ). Who knows we may get him yet as DoF. At long long last we can actually start to focus on the Football side of things, although the next few weeks will hopefully also be dominated by transfer news, but please remember the new owners will not be chucking silly money into a bottomless pot, they have clearly stated they have a long term plan for stability and progression upwards. A few astute signings to bolster the side up and then a bit of a spend in The Jan sales to see us into The layoffs is probably a realistic (but by no means easy) objective this season. At long last my faith in Fridays has been restored :smt023. Patience will be needed as well, don't read too much into it when we get rolled over by Ajax on Saturday. The real world starts at home to Millwall, which given Pardew's past association with both WHU and Charlton, should mean we will at least have a highly motivated manager on the touchline Great post with a lot of very good points EoA. Alan's appointment really is about as good as we could have realistically hoped for. He has passion on the touchline, he builds teams with some good solid pros and plays football the 'right way' not hoofball or total fusball. I believe a few decent signings (RB - Murty?, a solid CB, an experienced CM - Oakley/Holland type, and someone up front who knows how to get the ball into the onion bag) plus getting Fish to sign his offered contract would see us well on the way. It's great to be thinking and talking football again. Welcome Alan Pardew. I wish you all the very best of luck ,and a huge amount of success, at Saints!!!!!

I was thinking he might consider himself to be a higher level manager that Div1 and may consider us a step down and consequently not be that interested - cf HR GB. I want him to be desperate to do well, rather than take the job coz it probably offers more moolah than anthing else around. I've not got the impression he's been really trying hard to get a job recently... That all being said, I'm really pleased with his appointment.
OldNick Posted 17 July, 2009 Posted 17 July, 2009 somebody without any baggage or even past association.He has always struck me as someone who doesnt mess about and keeps a strong disipline but alos gets a team spirit going.I would also think he will be a good judge of young english players in the lower leagues he can pick up to help buils the team
