Dicko Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I had £5 on Pardew at 20/1 a few days back Somebody I trust told me he was on the shortlist
Master Bates Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Can we have one more managers thread please, but this time can it be about Jim Smith.
Micky Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I hope not. The poor man's Curbishley. Spooky that - I read the thread title 'Pardew' and in my mind saw 'Curbishley'. Then again - I guess I am but a poor man...!
Bad Wolf Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Spooky that - I read the thread title 'Pardew' and in my mind saw 'Curbishley'. Then again - I guess I am but a poor man...! I did too...I ALWAYS get the 2 of them confused. I think it's probably because they swapped jobs in 2006
saints_is_the_south Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Got Reading promoted from League 1 a few seasons, wouldn't be too bad but not my first choice.
Papa Shango Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Pardew would be a seriously underwhelming choice.
Dicko Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Pardew got Reading promoted from L1, he then gained promotion with West Ham to the Prem & was within seconds of beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final. Yet, most fans would be outraged Not sure ML & the board can win
Saints foreva Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I would be happy with Pardew. And agree with what Dicko said.
Window Cleaner Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I wouldn't mind Pardew, then again I wouldn't mind anyone that isn't WGS or MLT because I believe that almost anyone can do the job providing he gets the right players, ie ones without drink, attitude or gambling problems.

Yet, most fans would be outraged Not sure ML & the board can win And he was in charge of the Charlton team that was even worse than us last season. When he was at West Ham he put Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano on the bench. Anyone who rates the likes Hayden Mullins and Bobby Zamora above those two is not fit to run a football team.

When he was at West Ham he put Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano on the bench. Anyone who rates the likes Hayden Mullins and Bobby Zamora above those two is not fit to run a football team. There were other reasons why Teves and Mascherano weren't on the pitch.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 For a League One side Pardew would be a very good coup. Hopefully we can get better (WGS etc) but I'd be happy with Pardew - as any League One fan should be.

Agreed, Pardew will be good in this league and if we can't get the likes of WGS etc I would be happy if he was brought in.
Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 pardew would be OK for me nothing special and about number 6 on my wish list
saintwarwick Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Charlton are a League One team and none of their fans would want him back What do Charlton fans know
Window Cleaner Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 pardew would be OK for me nothing special and about number 6 on my wish list Number 6, good fags,:smt023 also The Prisoner was number 6 I am not a number I'm free man
Joesaint Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I want who is best for the job, not sure about AP but if it is him he will get my full support, at least he gets the players fit and putting the effort in. COYR
Mr Saints Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Living up here I unfortunately know alot of West Ham fans and they all love Pardew, speak very highly of him. Obviously, Charlton fans wouldn't agree but he did well at Reading so could be a decent appointment.

The manager always gets sacked but sometimes there is nothing he can do with some of the sh*tbags that play football nowadays. Players are unsackable, managers aren't. Look at some that have left us of late, 4 or 5 managers haven't been able to do much with them.

Pardew did a very good job with Reading but since Curbishley left Charlton like us they have been in free fall
Joesaint Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 In fact after alot of thinking, I recon AP would do really well, he had done fantastic with some teams and is still young for a good manager (bit more to learn maybe). In our division to have him would be really good. COYR
solentstars Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 if its pardew i would not be to upset hes a good manager but sill hope its wgs
Toadhall Saint Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Just been on South today that Pardew's odds have tumbled and he appears to be favourite with the bookies. I wouldn't mind him - most West Ham fans have got a lot of time for him and (for the footie purists) he plays passing football - not hoof ball.
Colinjb Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 We could do far, far worse then Pardew. He knows the division, has succesfully established teams in higher leagues and can work within a firmly kept yet reasonable budget. I would be very happy with his appointment.
John B Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 if its pardew i would not be to upset hes a good manager but sill hope its wgs Dont understand all this support for Strachan as the only positive comments are that he can get the team fitter. Not sure he can develop a team to move from Bottom League 1 to the Top of the Championship. But with loads of money he may

saint_stevo Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I'd actually rather have Adams :-( on what basis exactly? Pardew was managing in the premier league not so long ago
krissyboy31 Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Dont understand all this support for Strachan as the only positive comments are that he can get the team fitter. Not sure he can develop a team to move from Bottom League 1 to the Top of the Championship. But with loads of money he may I think he would. Coppell would still be my first choice and Strachan my second but Pardew wouldn't be a bad choice, that said I'd prefer Curbishley to him.
Colinjb Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I'd actually rather have Adams :-( Why? Has Adams managed a team in the FA Cup final? Has Adams got teams promoted from L1 and the Championship and well established them the next season? I am curious why you say that, I really am.
moon monkey Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 Getting Alan Pardew in league 1 would be a very good move. To get a manager from the higher leagues to work at a lower level shows the ambition the club has.
John B Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 do you not think his experience might help..? If we were near the top of the Championship Strachan would have more to offer. Pardew by the way is 48 on Saturday
Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 If we were near the top of the Championship Strachan would have more to offer. Pardew by the way is 48 on Saturday do you not think he has the know how to get us in a better position than where we are now...? if not, why would you say..?
John B Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 I think he would. Coppell would still be my first choice and Strachan my second but Pardew wouldn't be a bad choice, that said I'd prefer Curbishley to him. Coppell Pardew Curbishley for me
John B Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 do you not think he has the know how to get us in a better position than where we are now...? if not, why would you say..? I am not suggesting that he would not do a reasonable job but I dont feel he has the patience to develop the club in the next few years. But I am still confused as to whether the club is to get a director of football

But I am still confused as to whether the club is to get a director of football To be honest...i do not see the need of a director of football..especially in the WGS/current manager mode...it will only lead to one thing.. if a 'figure head' like MLT was to do it, then it may be different as he would not put pressure on the manager if things do not go well..if you get me
saint_stevo Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Pardew I think wat TDD means is that the DoF should not be an ex manager
sotonjoe Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 there was a piece on south today about how he has become the favourite after being nowhere in the odds
John B Posted 16 July, 2009 Posted 16 July, 2009 To be honest...i do not see the need of a director of football..especially in the WGS/current manager mode...it will only lead to one thing.. if a 'figure head' like MLT was to do it, then it may be different as he would not put pressure on the manager if things do not go well..if you get me Yes I agree with you I cannot see DOF working Just looked up Pardew who seems to have a reasonable background http://www.4thegame.com/club/west-ham-united-fc/manager-profile/31147/alanpardew.html
