Arizona Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Just seen terrapins in a shop, roughly the size of the palm of my hand. Three questions: 1) What do they eat? 2) How often do they need to be fed? 3) How big will they grow? I've seen specimens in the wild the size of a small cat, are they a different variety? Saint_clark Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 (edited) http://www.terrapins.co.uk/ I was thinking of getting a couple the other day, but I don't really have enough room outside. Some types only grow up to six inches apparently. Edited 16 July, 2009 by Saint_clark
Jillyanne Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Depends if you want to keep them in a tank or in a pond outside (beware of cats and foxes though). I have 2 tortoises but would like terrapins. Best place to get them from (if you are local) is Emsworth Aquatics, they can give you loads of advice on looking after them also. Edit - clearly you aren't local, never mind.
LVSaint Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 We used to get some kind of insect larvae from the pet shop for them when we had them a long time ago. They get big. They smell. They bite. That is all.
Arizona Posted 18 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 18 July, 2009 Didn't get one in the end, but I did get a Californian King Snake. Apparently this one escaped when it was a youngster and lived ferrell in the pet shop for a year, eating goldfish in the aquatic section, before it was caught.
