CWD Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 So who's going to Lords for the FP final? I'll be there with my old man, first time at Lords and im looking forward to it!
saint1977 Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Yes I am. My old man got me a ticket and hopefully the performance will be more like 2005 than 2007 when our bowlers all banged it in short and Durham smacked it everywhere. We then lost 2 wickets in the first 2 balls to a 38 year old Otis Gibson bowling at a remarkable 90mph.
Neil Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Tickets have arrived from Lord's! Gonna be a superb day hopefully, what time train are people getting? Can't beat a Hampshire final at Lord's, well hopefully we can beat the '07 debacle... Anyone there in '88, '91 or '92? Was there in '91 for Ayling's winning blow, great game. NI76 Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Anyone there in '88, '91 or '92? Was there in '91 for Ayling's winning blow, great game. Yeah, have been to all 5. The first was the best for me simply because we were no longer the only county never to have made a Lord's final although the end was a bit of an anti-climax, can't remember if it was a wide or a no-ball. '91 was the best game for pure excitement although I really enjoyed '05 as well. The one thing that puts a bit of a downer on it for me nowadays is not being able to pile on the pitch at the end. It used to be great standing on the pitch singing the names of each and every player who took it in turns to come out onto the balcony and wave. Berkshire Saint Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 anyone know if we can take alcohol into the ground? Will be two cans or one bottle of wine I think. Can easily get more in though as the stewards don't usually check too much.

Yep, that's all. Depends on smuggling more in, other times I've gotten 8 tins and some times I'm normally harassing random people to carry my booze in. I'm in the Compton Upper, which I believe is mainly Sussex in there? Should be a laugh...

dubai_phil Posted 18 July, 2009 Share Posted 18 July, 2009 All sorted. Flying in Friday evening, meeting mates at a Heathrow hotel (60 quid a room and we're sharing inc breakfast and free parking for them) perfect Tube in at a sensible hour followed by a lift home so can do beers. Tickets in Upper Grandstand and then lol mate's missus wins tickets at work. Perhaps one of Dubai Duty Free's fine bottles of Kulov Vodka - 4 quid for 500cc and it comes in a plastic bottle that fits into a back pocket perfectly should see us right for the day. Was at the Ayling's blow in the dark, and the Warks game, also went to the rained off one.

wadesmith Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Will the ECB release Prior & KP to play in the final?. I've got a funny feeling they will, as they know that KP would be too injured to be considered for Hants anyway, & I don't think they will mind Prior getting a knock as the next test is 11 days away. Like you, been to all 5 and was also at the 88 semi final at Chelmsford both days. One almighty **** up with both teams (except Gooch and Fletcher) in a pub near the ground after rain had cut short our innings. Kevin James told us their hotel was £20 and we followed them all the way back to the Post House at Brentwood where us mortals were faced with a bill for £80 a room. A quick phone call to a mate in Leyton and 5 of us including my Dad and the pregnant wife who was driving and we were kipping on floors and sofas. The next day we drove back to Chelmsford in the rain and had to wait till 3pm to start. When Judge hit the winning runs there was a crowd of about 30 of which 20 were Hants fans and a comittee member cracked open a bottle of champagne. It was such an easy win in 1988, over by about 4pm if I recall after Steven Jeffries ( spelling ?) demolished Derby and I'm sure he was only with us as Malcolm Marshall was with the West Indies as I think he was in 1991. I seem to recall his only one day final was v Kent in '92 when his bowling won us the match on the 2nd day after a lot of rain. Did we not have a Pakistani pace bowler in the 1991 team as a replacement for Marshall ?

um pahars Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 The 1991 Cup Final was the best for me as I had managed to see almost every match in the lead up to it. I can vaguely remember the Quarter Final (too drunk). I think it was Notts at home and we had one of those "boxes" in the Phillip Mead stand. There was some big argument when Terry was run out and Nicholas told Terry not to leave the pitch. The semi was at Edgbaston against Warwickshire and I can remember Aston Villa and Birmingham fans kicking off behind us, Hampshire fans in fancy dress behind one end and winning easily. Then the nightmare of the Final!!!! Chris Smith wasn't playing as he had left for Australia, Nicholas was injured and Surrey looked a big ask. Middleton steps in for Smith and scores a shedload, Ayling comes in for Nicholas and smashes a six into the Mound Stand?? and is there unbeaten in the darkness at the end to win the game in the last over!!!!! NI76 Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Pretty sure Prior will be released, I think it is part of their central contracts that they get released for the final. Mark Robinson has been quoted as saying he expects Prior to be released and playing in the final. And losing at Arundel by 4 runs (although that flatters us somewhat) means we will be the underdogs. The toss will be crucial again.

Lords isn't that far from Baker St/Marelybone ( Bakerloo line) or even Swiss Cottage ( Jubilee Line) so suggest you get the tube there. The No 13 bus takes you from SC to Lords in about 10 mins and also serves Baker Street if you are coming from that direction- also about 10 mins. http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/013N013.htm

We were in the Lower Nursery and I thought the bowler (Bicknell??) was coming down from the Pavillion. Can't remember who was bowling, but it was from the Nursery End and Ayling, who is right handed, smacked it over point and into the Tavern Lower. It was a very hot day and I had gone up in the County Club staff coach, laden with booze. In the tea interval, I was staggering to the bog when I met some mates who were sat below us and when I went down there it was another world with everybody huddled up in coats and scarfs. Always advisable to get upper level tickets. The mound stand is fine at the front, but as I found out last week, the back half dosen't get any sun. Dubai Phil said he was in the Upper Grandstand. That is the easiest place to get a drink from, as the Grandstand bars are in the middle level just down one flight of stairs. But from memory, the selection is limited. My lot will be congregated with a "Hampshire Stragglers" banner, so if any of you see it please come over and ask for me.

Thanks for clearing up my hazy recollection. I can definitely remember the ball going to our left into the Tavern or Mound stands, but where it came from was somewhat hazy!!! I can also remember the Bicknell brothers, particularly the bowling one giving and getting loads of abuse. We were in the Lower Nursery, right at the back and there were very few Hampshire fans down there in the dark. I'm sure we got our tickets from the ones Surrey couldn't sell ???? so much pss taking went on. Would I be right in saying it was an afternoon of getting cans of Red Stripe from a beer tent somewhere near the Nursery?????
