stevegrant Posted 15 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Well he's been batting in the nets, so I still expect him to play some part in this series. I thought he looked in decent nick at Cardiff as well.

keithd Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 since 2005 i believe we have a better record without him playing than we do when he has. so statistically we're better off without him, but as per the smith/KP debate you can prove anything with statistics! i'd rather he played, but only a 100% fit Freddie, which sadly is a rare event in itself. if he's remembered for nothing else it'll be the ashes in 2005. a top player at the top of his game. mind you, took him a while to get there! very ordinary to start.... Is this now a world-recognised great cricketing debate? Freddie has been excellent for many years, but I think he is making the right decision. It seems clear his body won't take the pounding it has done. Am pleased that it appears he is going to stick around in county cricket for a bit, though. Wish Vaughan had played for Yorkshire until the end of the season.
keithd Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Is this now a world-recognised great cricketing debate? yep, split the cricket world in two it has but yep, agree, he's done the right thing at the right time.

Causer Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Broad batting is about as good as Freddies and in the long term his bowling will be.

bungle Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Who will be the long term replacement? I'm a bit overweight and am willing to run in and pitch it short-of-a-length.
the stain Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I'm a bit overweight and am willing to run in and pitch it short-of-a-length. I've got a healthy record of getting a bit drunk and letting everyone down, particularly myself.
Saintjersey Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Shame he's retired, but ever since 2005 he has really struggled and never got back to his best. Tbh I think his batting is a bit of a liabilty, as shown with him averaging about 28 with the bat since 2005.
Thedelldays Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 hmm apparently he is off to the IPL.. where they will probably play 16 times a month ie. once every other day... hmmmm

I'd choose riches over being crippled in later life too.
