Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Would be a good idea to announce that new manager will be unveiled on Saturday if this is the case to attract more people to the game. TBF, I didn't say which Saturday though.

Elmore Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Odd lists. I really don't see WGS going from Celtic and Champion's League games to taking on Saints again. Why would he? Not like he's a Saints fan born and bred: he'll have bigger opportunities if he wants to manage again, I should think. As to KK, does anyone really think he still has the passion and desire and commitment the Saints job will need? I don't. I wouldn't want him as manager in our current circumstances. Alan Pardew? I wouldn't want that overrated and disloyal so-and-so within a hundred miles of our club. But Curbishley? He'd be a fantastic choice, except that he's looking for a big Prem club to manage, not us. And why Dennis Wise on the "no thanks" list? Does no-one recall the fantastic job he was doing with Leeds and their -15 point srtarting position, until he was lured away by Mike Ashley's moneybags? Had he stayed at Leeds (as I suspect he wishes he had) they'd almost certainly have won promotion in spite of their dire financial position and negative 15 starting position. He did a good job at Milwall too. I can't think of many managers I'd pick over Dennis Wise for our current position: knows the league, knows how to get it done at this level, hard-nosed little bastard, just what we need I'd have said! Can't disagree with any of that.

The backer bottled it before he had even got his hands on the club, so Im glad he didnt take control and bottle it after. Plus he was only worth 'hundreds of millions' not billions! St_Tel49 Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Can't disagree with any of that. RinNY Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I can - didn't someone post some hard facts and figures that demonstrated that Wise only did a fantastic Job at Leeds while Poyet was there with him. After that it was distinctly average. It's a hard fact that under Wise Leeds had by far the best record in League 1, had barely even lost any games, and were comfortably on track for automatic promotion even with the -15 points. It's also a hard fact that they went off the boil badly when he left. Someone else pointed out here his winning percentages as a manager: percentages that we'd take in a heartbeat! I'd add that Wise is a far more realistic target for us than some of the names being bandied about as possible manager, such as Curbishley, KK, or even (in my view, and maybe I'm wrong) WGS! Fowllyd Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 My guess(and thats all it is) is that Adams was offered a coaching role,WGS would be offered the managers job? Or, of course, that he's never been offered a job here at all. After all, how easy is it to say you turned down a job you were never actually offered in the first place - and quite possibly never even considered for? Very easy indeed I'd say, especially given that our new management team are highly unlikely to comment.

Red And White Barmy Army Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 tbf there is no way in a million years that tony adams would have been placed above strachan in the managerial shortlist. can you imagine the convo between oldknow and cortesse? AO: ive heard a former (but still extremely delusional) drunk is out of work. NC: i still think strachan would be good for the fans. AO: yea but tony adams has done rubish in every managers job he's had. NC: Well all u need to tell me now is that he worked for pompey and i'll be convinced. AO: u'll never guess what! he did too!!! NC: blow me, the fans will love it! do u think we should get our season tickets in the northam? Therefore he cant have 'refused' the job beforehand. If adams thinks he's too good for this job then he needs to be sectioned under the mental health act.

NickG Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 If he meant that, we'd all know about it in the media now. Everything is pointing towards a WGS return.... If he wasn't lined up he wouldn't be storming on the betting sites and also would not be keeping silent. and in the words of radio solent last week.....''Strachan today refused to comment on reports linking him with a return to saints...'' clutching at straws betting due to fans hoping and him being out of work and local Strachen was never one short of a comment nor to comment if he felt pointless question. There are no firms facts pointing to it - in fact the echo with comments from Oldknow rule him out. Tony L, who was recently talking to likes of MLT and KK and quite possibly WGS thinks its a definite no. I think its unlikely and wouldn't get your hopes up at all.... The point was that most of that was achieved with Poyet (2.5 points per game)- after Poyet left his record was nothing like so good.( just over 1 point per game) I therefore deduce that Wise + Poyet - good; Wise on his own .... I can think of others I'd rather have whose records will also stand scrutiny.

hypochondriac Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 Right I've had this from three sources now including one well connected from here. Our man will be announced before the Ajax game which will include our new owner attending the press conference. The person that has been given the managers job is on holiday and has been since he was seen at staplewood after being caught talking to Stewart Henderson. However my 2nd source has confirmed too it's him our fav who is coming in with a few players to be announced before the Ajax game. And now my third source and he does get involved in top local football and knows a few people, Anyway he tells me the bets are rolling in for Dennis Wise and even shows me a £150 bet at 20/1. Now my big question is this. Dennis Wise as director of football perhaps but I can't see WGS accepting that. So does that mean Wise is 2nd option as Wgs may of changed his mind during his week away in Malaga? Comments? Hmm. I think your sources were wrong...
