The Returning Army...

Guided Missile

Recommended Posts

Interesting debate but does anyone know how many season tickets have been sold and roughly the split for renewals and new orders.

It seems the returning army whatever their regiment are not exactly noses pressed against the ticket windows and I am wondering if the lack of a managerial appointment and the complete absence of any rumour (apart from the persistent Tony Adams stories) is having a detrimental effect on sales.

Would any SMS employees like to share their statistics on ST sales to date or perhaps the number of tickets sold for the Ajax game.

I reckon that despite his claimed devotion to SFC, Misselbrook would rather have seen the team go under than lose the bragging rights he perceives himself to have.

I am deepply disappointed that the likes of Weston Saint agree with his original post, since any merit at all contained within it was totally undermined by the sneering and absuive manner in which it was delivered.

Says the man who willed us into administration and League 1 because he predicted it. You're a piece of work, you really are.

Still at least leon crouch built us a statue to be proud of...

l will stand outside and look at that for free.

Id rather chew my own entrails out than sit with some of our more opinionated fans.

Strange , pot and kettle springs to mind

5,500 sold in 3 days .... yet some posters on here are still not happy!!..

.

If the regiment does not have their noses against the windows it must be because the season ticket queues are so long that they cannot get to the windows.

Guided Missile has a point and I empathise with his message. It's similar to the slogan 'a dog is for life....'. You cannot choose to look after it when you want to.

You could say McMenemy is in a similar vein. Too many posters on here ignore the past and slag him off for things in recent years. It should read, "a McMenemy is for life,....." don't you think?

Judging by Speculator's own assessment criteria and his past posts, then I think it's safe to say that he will be supportive of Crouch and McMenemy and be grateful for their contributions to this Club.

Roman gave some indication of this in a post on another thread recently. He had sent an email to Luker and got this response:-

"Hopefully you have now seen the pricing structure and are happy with what we have produced. We have tried to keep pricing attractive to both new and renewing season ticket holders, and having over 1000 new season ticket holders in the first 5,500 sold hopefully underlines that we may have got this right.

The corners will certainly be opened if demand dictates this, but we still want to keep an eye on operational costs in the interim"

Now, although indicative, it is not conclusive as it is early days yet. But indications so far suggest that nearly 20% of the STs sold are for new ST holders. Whether that is entirely new holders, or includes those who just did not have one for the past year or two, I don't know

Steve, did you go to St. Mary's to renew your ST or did you phone up?

Meeting up with mates at 4:30 on Friday if you want to join us. Five renewals and two new season ticket holders amongst us;)

Well done, mate. I've already got my two, so unfortunately I'll have to give Friday a miss. I reckon we'll get to 12,000 if WGS signs...

Here's hoping...

Although as I'm sat here waiting for a callback re potential swine flu, I might be missing Friday as well (although sure someone will pick my ticket up for me).

I would like to match last years number as a minimum, but with WGS or another big name then 12,000+.

Might be worth asking them to pick up some Tamiflu, while they're at it...

Still, I am sure, like me, you will look forward to the debates being centred on the team's performance on the pitch.

I'm particularly looking forward to Alpine's perceptive analysis on games he hasn't seen...

If it is pig fever, then I'll need the Tamilfu today to get it within the 48 hours window.

I'm not saying the new owner and set up are beyond criticism (but for saving our ar5e then I think they'll get cut quite a serious amount of slack), but I do think the emphais going forward will be on what goes on on the pitch (along with the managers performance).

And with that in mind, I still think Pulis is sht, some of our yungsters overhyped and we are in desperate need for some new blood and a kick ar5e manager.

.....the stayaways causing the downfall is a myth IMO,most of them were staying away because of crap football not because of who was running the ship.the majority of the stayaways jumped on the 'lowe out' bandwagon to justify their abscence.

The figure do not support your statement :-

(1) In 07/08 the number of ST was 13,500 this dropped to 9,500 when lowe returned (this include 7,000 who purchased before he returned).

That is 4,000 or 30% refused to purchase a ST BEFORE any football was played.

(2) The 1st match (or 1st 2 matches) of the season is usually a good indicator :-

Lowe FC (08/09 ) Brum 18,925 (& Blackpool 15,629).

Saints FC (07/08 ) Palace 25,054 (& Stoke 20,300)

Saints FC (06/07 ) Coventry 21,088* (& WBA 24,333)

(*= midweek game which are always slightly lower).

That is 3,000 (18%) down for the 1st game or an average of 5000 (25%) down for the first 2 games of the season BEFORE any real football had been played, and BEFORE most fans had worked out that "lowe=crap football".

(3) The Echo the other day stated that gates were about 15,000 when lowe was in charge last season. The final 3 games of the season (when we were almost down because of the 10 points) the gates were :-

Charlton 27,228; Palace 23,220; Burnley 23,927 (ave 24,791).

If we were playing "crap football", why did the gates rise AFTER he left by something like 9,000 (40%) ?

Thanks for the info (Tame Saint and Wes Tender thanks as well) they make interesting reading. With the club having sold 5,500 tickets already, at least last year's total should be exceeded and with or without the appointment of Strachan, sales in excess of 12,000 could be achievable if the 1 in 5 new to renewal ratio is maintained. Even allowing for the usual attrition rates on renewals which may be higher this season which, unusually this may not be due to relegation as those effects may be offset by the hope of a new owner but because of the state of the economy and rising unemployment. This has to be good news for the club as hopefully it will send a statement of intent from the fans to Markus Liebherr that his investment is likely to be rewarded provided they don't recruit Tony Adams.

I must admit not many on here had mentioned they had already renewed or purchased their new ST and so I was assuming that the queues at SMS were not exactly snaking around the stadium. It seems though I was wrong and perhaps shows that although this forum is by far the most popular for Saints fans it actually represents quite a small perecntage of the overall fanbase and has a high population of those who have moved overseas or unable to attend matches for whatever reason and the forum helps them get their regular Saints fix. However, as a barometer of what fan's are actually doing in reality it may not be that reflective of those behaviours. I didn't have any sense from this forum that ST sales had gone so well, did others?

From reading this forum recently I certainly got the impression that season ticket sales would start off with a boost, with many on here chomping at the bit for the Club to start selling them.

I always thought that with Crouch and others dipping in to their pockets to ensure we would still have a Club to support and McMenemy and others issuing rallying calls, then the minute our Swiss uncle signed the cheque I sensed there was going to be a rush at the ticket office.

Well my season ticket landed on the mat this morning along with 2 more for my oldest 2 lads. I gave up my season ticket when we left The Dell. I still went to at least 2/3 rds of all games until last year where I missed 4 away, but went only to the Crystal Palace game at home.

I am happy we are in the 3rd division? No, but even though I lose out financially buying season tickets as its a 400 mile round trip & I will still make more away games than home I am happy to give something back to the new owner & the football club. I am simply very happy to have a club to support.
