Looks like being a very close tournament to me, the way the course has been set up means that not just length but accuracy will be key.

I have put money on the following-

Villegas--R1 -4

Garcia--R1 E

Leonard--R1 E

Jacquelin--R1 +5

Levet--R1 +1

Rose--R1 -1

Watney--R1 +1

All £1.50 each way, apart from watney £2.50 e/w

Think Woods will still win in, and at 2-1 i am seriously considering putting a cheaky ton on..........

Edit- Have updated scores

Sorry but none of them stand a chance. Villegas is the most in form player out of that list and he hits it way too high for links golf. Sergio has the ball striking for an open, but his putting is horrific. But if it's really windy and it comes down to who keeps it in play the best, he MIGHT have a shot at it. Tiger will win if the wind doesn't get up, as he can hit iron down every hole. But Haney has ruined his long game....doesn't matter how good his recovery shots and short game are, you can't win from the chin high grass on a links course. Check the weather before you put a bet on him. If it's windy he'll struggle.

Leonard isn't good enough in the majors anymore, Levet might manage a top 25, Jacquelin isn't good enough for an Open, and Rose is hopeless this year.

Good bets are Adam Scott or Nick Dougherty. For an outside punt, Soren Kjeldson is having a consistent year, and I have a little inside information that Nick Watney is playing VERY well.

Scott is a choker. Other than the players he has done nothing in the big tournaments. Dougherty was under consideration. But being English, obviously has no chance!

Had some on Watney for the US Open, not sure on his Links ability?

I ALWAYS do Garcia in majors, just have to now cos when i dont, he will win. Needs to get the flat stick going though, that is agreed. Leonard loves the links!

I dont expect to win much, if any, just like to make it more interesting. Will probably bet again after the cut.....

Garcia isn't suddenly going to fix his putting......it's in a right mess. And when it gets windy, it's hard to keep still and you have to allow for the wind when reading putts. He's got enough problems without that on top. It won't be him.

I wouldn't say Scott is a choker. And he's coming into form right now. And he'll probably be smashing Ana Ivanovic in the Turnberry hotel so he'll be in good spirits.

Watney is from Sacramento....it gets a bit windy up there. He won the Buick this year at Torrey Pines....that's by the ocean. Like I said, a bit of an outside bet, but I bet his odds are favourable for a bet. Watney works with Butch Harmon and I've worked with Butch's right hand man in Vegas....he told me he was at the academy the other week and he was in awesome shape. Could be a bit of a Lucas Glover type thing.

Stricker won last week didn't he.....he might not be a bad shout either.

This is my last of my 3 posts, will post more tomorrow.....Scott finished 16th in the Open last year.....not bad....and he's playing well now. He has won the Players - that's the 5th biggest event on tour behind the majors.

Stricker is a good bet, but an outside bet which I'm tempted on myself,on SkyBet......Stephen Ames at 125-1. I like that a lot. I've played a lot of golf with Amesy (my coach taught him for years, then they fell out after he won the Players), and he has a good game for links golf.

Not had a proper look yet , but my early thinking was Mahan and Soren Hansen.

Stricker is on fire at the moment so 40/1 looks good value.

But, I think we all know who actually will end up winning the thing don't we.

oh, and Ian Poulter as well. Good form and I think he is due a big win soon.

Yes woods, bottled the 100 and went for 50 on him to win instead....2/1

He is though of course English and so must be ruled out. Plus has a poor temperament

Talk me thru Ames' nationality......

It's a while since I heard the story, but the TRUE story isn't the one that gets branded around in the press apparently!! He was playing a tournament in America, I think on the Nationwide Tour, and he got into a playoff and turned up late for his flight, which took him over the time he was allowed to stay in the country for on the visa he had. So he got into a lot of trouble with US immigration. His wife is Canadian...he became a Canadian citizen and moved to Calgary, and because he is now Canadian, it clears up a load of legal issues with immigration, visas and the right to play on the PGA Tour.

Back to good bets for the Open, I've just heard Harrington saying if you drive it well you've got a chance - I think that rules Tiger out to be honest. Having said that, the course is only 7200 yards so he can hit a lot of irons and fairway woods off the tee. Everyone said the rough is up though, and if you hit it wide enough, you can't even get it back on the fairway. Woods can win the Open round St Andrews because it's wide open and is a putting contest...a tight course like Turnberry isn't suiting his wayward driving. I think there'll be a lot of wasted money on him this week, I'd like to be wrong though - I'm excited to see him equal and beat Nicklaus' record.

16/1 on Tiger to miss the cut.....that HAS to be worth a £10 punt!!

If you're looking for good drivers, Lucas Glover leads total driving (that's fairways hit and distance combined) on the PGA Tour. Kenny Perry is high up on that list. Sean O'Hair wouldn't be a bad shout either - I think he's potentially a major winner, although maybe a bit soon for him yet.

I don't like Poulter's chance at all.

You can't go far wrong if you go each way on players like Furyk, Goosen, Perry, Casey and Ogilvy.....all serial top ten finishers in big events. Hunter Mahan and Soren Hansen have been mentioned. Mahan is a good shout for a top ten, but can't see him winning, and Hansen doesn't inspire me really.

No to Graeme McDowell....he's playing steady but not at the top of his game, which you obviously need to be for a major.

Watney, Ames, Dougherty and Robert Rock (300/1!!!!) are my outsider tips, and for the win, I'd go with someone with a good all round game.....Furyk.

I would like a few quid on Ross Fisher, but his mrs is ready to pop!

Well he is as short as 28/1 with Boyle Sports but 55/1 and drifting on BF so might be worth a few quid on BF. That said do bookies refund stakes on Golf bets if you back someone who does not start or is it the same as with Ante post bets on Horse racing ? Or are you worried he might be preoccupied !?

I've done (all ew) Poulter 28/1 , Garcia 22/1 and Glover 125/1.

Also bet Mahan will finish better than 35th and Nick Watney will finish better than 42nd.

Todays Match bets.

O'Hair over Villegas

O Wilson over K perry

S garcia over T Watson

Hate to say I told you so, but Tiger is playing awful. He has to sack Hank Haney after this. His golf swing is awful right now. Laid off at the top, bowed left wrist, losing height on the way down, club stuck behind him.....blocks and hooks all day. He's even just fatted a 3 wood. Missed every fairway he's got driver out on, and 2 or 3 when he's hit iron off the tee. 1 over at the minute (6 behind a 59 year old) and will be lucky to finish within 5 or 6 of the leaders after the first day. If the wind gets up he'll be forced to hit more drivers and that'll mean he's chopping out of the hay even more. He's been incredibly lucky to be 1 over to here too, he's found a reasonable lie every time he's hit driver off the tee into the rough.

Still like Stricker and will be interested to see how Furyk does.

Only woods could play that badly and not play his way out the tournament, if it blows tomorrow and he can shoot level, he will be well in the mix (says the man with £100 on him..)

and you can get 6/1 now in places. I'm tempted.
