Toadhall Saint Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 I don't think the cash is irrelevant - yes, he will spend wisely but from what he's said, he won't be afraid to spend if we are challenging, whether in L1, the Championship or elsewhere. Strachan left because he didn't have the resources to take us to the next level - I don't think that would have happened had we then had the current regime. For me, its potential to kick on when we are successful that makes new ownership so exciting. Couldn't have said it better myself - totally agree. Saintjersey Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 As far as I see it anybody who goes into football looking to make a profit is an idiot, especially in this day and age. If you were buying a non league club and managed to promote it up through the leagues, this is the only way that I can possible see you will make a profit. Even if he does make a profit surely it is going to be marginal compared to what he already is earning and so to me this theory that he is looking to make a profit is incorrect. I'm guessing therefore his motives is for him to own a successful top team and gain further exposure through this, with us being the cheapest way for him to do so rather than buying an already established club (or just the fact that it is fashionable to own a club). BadgerBadger Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 The key part to the fact ML has 2.5 billion is not that he's going to plough money hand over fist into SFC more that there is a reason he has that wealth and that he is a canny and successful businessman who will bring that experience to our football club - priceless. The 2.5 billion is a massive safety net. Some wealthy people get it with a healthy dose of luck and right place right time and are probably not very good businessman. I'd much rather have a well run business and gain football success from that than be part of a rich mans play thing and I reckon we have the right man for the job. Joensuu Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 I understand that the new manager will be given the following 20 Million (To get us promoted from League 1 in 1 year) 40 million (To get us promoted from Championship in 1 year) 100 Million (To keep us in the prem for 2 years) 250 Million (Year 5 challenge for top 6 in prem) A bit early to be on the lash IMO ! Personally the absolutely maximum I can imagine would be 2-3M in y1 (L1); 5-8M in y2 (Chmp); 10-15M in y3 (Prem) onwards... and that's being very optimistic...
