Greenridge Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I only normally post in the Saints related forum so excuse me if this is in the wrong place or already posted but it is being reported (From WHTID and various other news sources) that John Hartson has testicular cancer which has spread to his brain. Awful news indeed.
Dicko Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I used to work with someone who played in the same Luton youth team as Hartson & Telfer - reckons he's a top,top bloke sad news
Baj Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 ***** on the pitch, and absolute diamond off it. Best of luck to him in beating it...
Robsk II Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Testicular cancer remains one of the most reatable, but of course once it goes beyind stage 2 things get more serious. Good luck to him.
lee_saint Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Good luck to him, it will be a long and hard few months/years. Fingers crossed he pulls through.

Testicular cancer has a cure rate of almost 100% of caught early enough. Just when it spreads it has problems, although a friend of a friend had tesicular cancer which spead to stomach and lungs, somehow he beat it which is very rare! There is hope.

saint1977 Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Scary stuff and I wish him well. The survival rates for testicular cancer are very good if caught earlyish but secondary tumours are always dangerous but hope it works out OK.
Redbul Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Wish him well, he went up in my estimation with the West Ham 'incident'. Good bloke.
Kev Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 My old man had skin cancer that had spread to his brain before it was diagnosed. Watching him lose his faculties, almost daily, was the saddest thing. It was like speeded up alzheimer's. I wish John Hartson well. Yes, the West Ham 'incident' greatly raised my opinion of him also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbiaXYLD-Ok
RedAndWhite91 Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Sad to hear this, hope he makes a recovery. Good luck John.
bridge too far Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Just been announced on the news that he's to undergo emergency surgery today.
Um Bongo Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Apparently it's worse then they thought and it's also spread to his lungs.
nick1579 Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Only just found out about this - does not look good. Unfortunately, by the time many cancers display symptoms it's too late as they have already spread. Moral of story here - check yourself every month. Could save your life. I had a scare once but turned out to be a cyst - better to be safe than sorry though.

Saint Keith Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 my first wifes mother went to the doctors with chronic stomache ache on a Wednesday, had died by the following Tuesday
Jillyanne Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Only just found out about this - does not look good. I had a scare once but turned out to be a cyst - better to be safe than sorry though. Good advice but look at my boss though, couldn't really check for pancreatic cancer, had already spread by the time they found it and he was dead in 6 weeks aged only 30.
SuperMikey Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 That is awful, always admired him as a footballer even though other might have not and he seems like a top bloke too. Best of luck to him.
chrisobee Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Yes, cancer continues to be the biggest curse in our society. I have lost count of how many people I have known who have succumbed to it. It is of course true the prognosis is better if it caught early but as with Jillyanne's boss it can appear from nowhere and pancreatic cancer is often called the silent killer due to the lack of symptons. Good luck to John anyway, he was a battler on the field so hopefully that quality will serve him well.
Bad Wolf Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 SSN broke the story earlier that it had spread ot his lungs...Dreadful news. Good luck, Bigman
Ziggy Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 As a Welshman I loved him playing for Wales. His kick in training was also awesome. It sounds very bad - I just hope I'm wrong.

Big John Posted 13 December, 2009 Posted 13 December, 2009 Looking good on Goals on Sunday this morning. Good luck to anyone touched by any form of cancer, cancer changes lives and more and more often we hear of the changes being positive ones. With high profile people like JH talking about 'checking your balls' and how it (cancer) has perversely had a positive effect on his life is so encouraging. God bless you John CHECK YOUR BALLS FELLAS.
