longmover Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Steve Cotterill was at whaddon road for legends game on sunday, I presume he was still in cheltenham and may have been a guest? he's very good 'english' lower league manager and I would be very happy with him in charge
saint1977 Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Sounds like Thomas is staying which is good news, if we could add Whitbread alongside him and Mills and Murty sign on, we've got one of the best back 4s in the division. Gillett has proven form at this level for Blackpool and James will do well in midfield which was obviously his position in the first place (although last season's joke of a manager couldn't see it). If we retain John and if we could keep either of the Polish strikers that would be a real bonus. What we need to do now is add the quality on top - 2/3 wide players and strikers with express pace, a creative CM or keep & develop Lallana and bring in some right back cover. NickG Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 think it maybe time to freshen up the forwards and, as long as they are replaced, would not be too worried if saga/rasiak/john went - unless they are really going to be up for it this season. Berkhamsted Saint Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I thought Cheltenham shaded the game last night although didnt do enough to win it. We looked solid at the back and Thomas had a good game. Molyneaux was okay but didnt stand out. Murty looked solid but not sure if I would sign him. I thought our midfield was dreadful in the first half and created virtually nothing for the front men. Pulis was poor on the night. Lallana had little impact. Gillett came on in the second half and thinks improved but we never really looked like scoring. Complete lack of service to the front men. We need to improve our midfield for the new season otherwise yet again we will pass the ball around without creating any chances. Tend to think it will be a long hard season. ottery st mary Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Right so some reports come back that he is up to it...some come back that he is...great...that's opinions for you... And i don't expect to blow my wad over any of his performances as i don't think we've uneathed Wayne Bridge II...but then if we had he sure as sh:t wouldn't be playing for Saints! And having seen Mills at Bournemouth i very much like what i see... However anyone that honestly thinks they can make a full assessment on a player's ability based on four league appearances last year and a friendly game against Cheltenham is a numpty to my mind... If i'd only ever witnessed Kevin Davies in a handful of games in his final months at Saints i could conclude he was one of the worst players to ever grace the Premier League...that quite plainly isn't the case though is it? I prefer to give players a chance...maybe the "football peeps" as you so wonderfully put it realise that across a season we'll be lucky to have Joseph Mills keep up a high level of consistency so it pays to have back up in all positions...that is where it pays to not encourage the players on the fringe of the team as opposed to just dismiss them as sh:t without giving them a chance... Oh and on the subject of Ben Reeves he may well be a good prospect but like a lot of players being blooded in these preseason games it is unlikely that we'll see be seeing much of him this season i suspect... Scudey......i LIKE YOUR STYLE....Top man or lady....What did you think of Ali Dia..:smt043....Could we not bring him back...No one gave him a chance..:smt077.. By the way I thought Pulis was rubbish when I first saw him warm up all those years ago.....Lucky guess I suppose. Keep up the good posts and be there for the Mighty Saints.. Block 5 Posted 15 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 July, 2009 We could have played for another 90 minutes and another and another and we still wouldn't have scored. But to be fair, neither would Cheltenham. But with no manager to try impress, I don't think anyone was giving their all. If we keep Saga, Raz & Stern we will have the most impressive strike force (on paper) in L1 or the CCC.......... let's hope they will be able to live up to the expectation. Kaiser Soze Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 I had a chat with Joseph Mills in the early hours of Sunday morning outside a nightclub in Swindon. A nice honest lad which unfortunately can't be said for alot of ur young 'uns.
