Yate Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Why does everyone assume we should beat Cheltenham. They gained more points in Division 3 last season than we have so far this. I know they were relegated, but guys you need to get used to the fact that this is our level now. Didn't we draw with them last season as well (2-2 maybe)? Would look it up on the OS, but buggered if I can find the Archive any more. It was 1-1 in that game. We were also crap that day too. It was boiling as well. We need a manager, and 8 players. Otherwise we will be playing Cheltenham in the league next season.

Nexstar Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Liebherr and Oldknow need to realise we need a manager and players fast, as they will only have Hearts and QPR to 'gel' before the season starts. But the way things are going and with -10 it's not going to be an easy start to the season.

krissyboy31 Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Just in from the game. Not a lot to say really. Positives: Murty did ok, Thomas was dominant at CB, Paterson looked lively if not threatening, some of the youngsters that came on 2nd half did ok, along with Rasiak and Gillett, who made a big difference. Biggest positive was Molyneux, who played the whole game and was our best player. Negatives: The whole midfield 1st half especially Pulis who was terrible and was lucky not to be sent off (more fouls than passes). Lancashire who will never make a decent CH in a million years and Forecast, whose keeping was eccentric to say the least. All in all, not great and will need a massive improvement by next month. johnsey Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Nothing good from what I saw. Out muscled think we need to start looking at some big players to bulk it up. Cheltenham used two big fellas and to be honest I thought we struggled against what will be common place in this league.
danny91973 Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Thomas made a big difference at centre back. Dominated all game. Was speaking to his uncle who was watching and he seemed to think he is staying with us. Gillet also played well when he came on, Murty will provide a steadying influence if we keep him on. Defensively we played well but looked poor going forward. Only managed a couple of weak shots on target.

Are you serious?!!!!:smt043 i'd like to try some of what you've been smoking! The only reason that Molyneux can't be called the worst player on the pitch was becasue Pulis was on it! Molyneux consistently gave the ball away or punted it aimlessly up field. He also goes into every challenge with two feet, studs up. The only thing he did ok was get that Free kick on target, and that was a dubious choice as the keeper would always be expected to save from there. I thought that when I saw him play last season He had a serious leg break whilst at Everton, I wonder if that's had an impact on his confidence when going in for a challenge? Painswick Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Not a terribly convincing display by the Saints against Cheletenham tonight On the positive side Wayne Thomas played for 90 minutes, and looked good. Rasiak was up for it , but to be honest , never received any decent service. Gillett played well in the second half and linked up very well with Tom Dunford. On the negative side, we were muscled off most 50/50 balls, and lost possession on countless occasions. The defence looked poor ( other than Wayne Thomas), and Forecast kept us in it, all be it somewhat erratically, in the second half. Olley Lancashire did not play well, and Tony Pulis was worse. Graham Murty looked OK in the first half, but appeared to tire early in the second half Sat next to the SFC directors box, which had Stuart Pearce in it, alongside Steve Cotterill. I am sure Pearce was watching out for the under 21's. and Cotterill is an ex manager of Cheltenham, but not sure why they were sat in the SFC directors box

bungle Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Rasiak came on and looked interested, which was good. Paterson linked up well with him. Gillett had a good second half in midfield, reads the game very well. Wayne Thomas decent enough, against two difficult strikers. Lallana wide right didn't work. I think he is going to have to be a forward player, rather than a midfielder.

Always seems to be in the wrong place and not concentrating, so he has to lunge in because he's not in the right place. Also, he has absolutely no upper body strength so if someone leans on him, he falls over. Thomas and Perry should start v Ajax as they will be good together. I think we need to sign two more centre backs so Lancashire is 5th choice at best.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Murty looked solid, as did Wayne Thomas, both would shine for us in League One. Simon Gillett hardly put a foot wrong and I'd say had our best chance of the game, but a bit dissappointed with a 0-0 scoreline, still, the trip there and back is always a laugh. Cheeky Monkey Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Doble was the worst player I have ever seen in a saints shirt. The following 4 are good enough for the coming season, Murty, Thomas, lalana, Gillett. Molyneaux, patterson and Lanchashie are OK for backup players in div 1. The rest are not good enough for non league. i would have taken some of cheltenhams subs/trial players compared to our team. killer was not at the game either. I never bet against Saints but if I did I'd have a fair sum on Millwall at 11/4. Saints only 6/5, surely it will be at least half a dozen games before we are likely to find any kind of form given the upheaval and pre season results so I'd say we were unbackable at such short odds. Right so some reports come back that he is up to it...some come back that he is...great...that's opinions for you... And i don't expect to blow my wad over any of his performances as i don't think we've uneathed Wayne Bridge II...but then if we had he sure as sh:t wouldn't be playing for Saints! And having seen Mills at Bournemouth i very much like what i see... However anyone that honestly thinks they can make a full assessment on a player's ability based on four league appearances last year and a friendly game against Cheltenham is a numpty to my mind... If i'd only ever witnessed Kevin Davies in a handful of games in his final months at Saints i could conclude he was one of the worst players to ever grace the Premier League...that quite plainly isn't the case though is it? I prefer to give players a chance...maybe the "football peeps" as you so wonderfully put it realise that across a season we'll be lucky to have Joseph Mills keep up a high level of consistency so it pays to have back up in all positions...that is where it pays to not encourage the players on the fringe of the team as opposed to just dismiss them as sh:t without giving them a chance... Oh and on the subject of Ben Reeves he may well be a good prospect but like a lot of players being blooded in these preseason games it is unlikely that we'll see be seeing much of him this season i suspect...
