I was looking at numerous Saints related videos on YouTube earlier, and I couldn't help but notice how many top draw goals have been scored over the years. It got me thinking, what is the best Saints goal of all time? I came across this video and thought it had to be a contender.

What do you think is the greatest Saints goal of all time? Feel free to post video links if you've got any.

Dont know about greatest goal but the Greatest saints game I ever saw was Saints 6 Man Utd 3

Half time chants of "Have you got another kit?" and later on "WE WANT SIX, WE WANT SIX....YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!" always mist me up when I remember that game.

Loads, but one that springs to mind is Mick Channon running in a straight line from the centre circle through the Coventry defence and scoring - 18.09.71.

Col. St. John Inbred-Idiot (on loan from Woolwich Arsenal) against Corinthians at the Kennington Oval 1896 - it was re-enacted in slow motion on Ye olde Matche of the Daye that very evening by the Royal Mime Company.

I got so carried away I shook hands firmly with a gentleman to my right!

RonManager is indeed correct, that goal was so impressive that several maidens did faint and required leech treatment, while I was so overcome that I instructed one of my footmen to nod in modest approval on my behalf.

Furthermore following a witty song by Lord Hansen on the subject of zonal marking and the inability of the Corinthians' custodian to dominate the pomo, the blaggard was horse-whipped for his trouble, and rightly so.

Totally forgot about that goal! Not the best of all time though.

There are different kinds of great goals: the one you've picked is a fantastic team goal, with the passing from player to player building the goal just outstanding. But there are also fantastic individual goals, where a player just crafts a goal out of nothing, and I'd have to say the greatest Saints goal of that kind was MLT's against Newcastle in '93, where he back heeeled the ball up & over one player, lobbed another, and then calmly slotted home. That has to be one of the great individual goals of all time, not just saints' goals. But then, as we all know, MLT scored so many magical individual goals that seemed to come out of nothing.

No question.

Finally, a video which shows once and for all that Stokes was NOT offside! Was clearly played onside by the manc defender nearest the camera. Shut up you manc whingers!

I can't remember the opposition or the season as I think it happened before I was born but in a discussion like this before I have seen Keegan scoring an overhead volley which was a belter. I think it was at the dell and I think it was a night match; can't find it on youtube though. Would like to see it again so any help appreciated.

Yes but the goal was disallowed as someone was offside even though it made no difference as the goalkeeper had no chance. Safe to say it would have been awarded today. I did look for it on you tube as I'm sure I have seen it again in the past few years but could not find it.

That is it, many thanks. I forgot the disallowed bit, a cracking effort nevertheless.

Well as you said you weren't even born so not hard to forget that part, those of us who were there were livid, well I was anyway !! David Armstrong certainly was not seeking to gain an advantage or indeed did not even gain an advantage so even at that time it should have stood.

Anyone remember Beaties goal against Chelsea?

It wasnt too long after the game started and he was nearly on the halfway line(or so it seemed).

Although we didnt win,we were 1-0 up for ages.

Oh happy days.

Micky Channon's against Liverpool at the Dell early 80's after we passed the ball about 20 times, voted goal of the season by ITV I think we still lost the game but as the commentator said, "You won't see a better goal than that this season!"

It was against Man Utd 82ish. It was 2-2 at the time - a cracking overhead volley from KK but Armstrong had strayed offside (would be allowed today).

Armstrong made amends by scoring the winner a few minutes from time!

Was watching 'Premier League Goals' on ESPN classic the other night and that goal was on there. Was a scorcher!

What you forget about MLT is his celebrations, always quality :)

Also overlooked is just how bloody good the last goal at the Dell was, the ball was almost behind him when he hit it, amazing shape on the ball as the famous photo shows.

For me though the best Saints goal is the Liverpool one at the start of the thread, its the best team goal I've ever seen. MLT's juggling act against Newcastle is a close second, with Moran against the skates, purely because of what it meant.

I'd almost forgotten this Pahars goal, think it was the same game in which MLT scored one of his easiest goals ever, a fairly tame effort which went through the legs of Tahibi the Man U goalie?

I think all of us who were there knew it was not offside !!
