Bailey Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 I was looking at numerous Saints related videos on YouTube earlier, and I couldn't help but notice how many top draw goals have been scored over the years. It got me thinking, what is the best Saints goal of all time? I came across this video and thought it had to be a contender. What do you think is the greatest Saints goal of all time? Feel free to post video links if you've got any.

Redbul Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Dont know about greatest goal but the Greatest saints game I ever saw was Saints 6 Man Utd 3 Half time chants of "Have you got another kit?" and later on "WE WANT SIX, WE WANT SIX....YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!" always mist me up when I remember that game.
RonManager Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Loads, but one that springs to mind is Mick Channon running in a straight line from the centre circle through the Coventry defence and scoring - 18.09.71.
John B Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Terry Paine v Leyton Orient Brisbane Road 1966 the goal that got us to Div 1

Kenilworthy Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Ronnie Ekelund away at Coventry in 94-95. A masterpiece of one touch pass and move football. Strangely overlooked by Saints fans.
Thedelldays Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 This ones got to be up there, sadly cant find the one with Delgado scoring with his arse i was in the northam that game amnd went mental...did not realise (now seeing that clip) how far out he was.... good times spurs were proper shyt that day too
chrisobee Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 No question. Beat you to it Yes, I remember that goal but there can only be one :
Papa Shango Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Has it be this one surely? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09RwRRqKgnM
RonManager Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Col. St. John Inbred-Idiot (on loan from Woolwich Arsenal) against Corinthians at the Kennington Oval 1896 - it was re-enacted in slow motion on Ye olde Matche of the Daye that very evening by the Royal Mime Company. I got so carried away I shook hands firmly with a gentleman to my right!
rallyboy Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 RonManager is indeed correct, that goal was so impressive that several maidens did faint and required leech treatment, while I was so overcome that I instructed one of my footmen to nod in modest approval on my behalf. Furthermore following a witty song by Lord Hansen on the subject of zonal marking and the inability of the Corinthians' custodian to dominate the pomo, the blaggard was horse-whipped for his trouble, and rightly so.
Badger Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Has it be this one surely? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09RwRRqKgnM Agree. That was the best individual goal ever. Best team goal was Channon's after the 17 passes V Liverpool c1982.
saint_ed Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 This ones got to be up there, sadly cant find the one with Delgado scoring with his arse Totally forgot about that goal! Not the best of all time though.
saint_ed Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Has it be this one surely? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09RwRRqKgnM I scored a carbon copy of that goal... FACTAMUNDO!

There are different kinds of great goals: the one you've picked is a fantastic team goal, with the passing from player to player building the goal just outstanding. But there are also fantastic individual goals, where a player just crafts a goal out of nothing, and I'd have to say the greatest Saints goal of that kind was MLT's against Newcastle in '93, where he back heeeled the ball up & over one player, lobbed another, and then calmly slotted home. That has to be one of the great individual goals of all time, not just saints' goals. But then, as we all know, MLT scored so many magical individual goals that seemed to come out of nothing.
gonzo Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 No question. Finally, a video which shows once and for all that Stokes was NOT offside! Was clearly played onside by the manc defender nearest the camera. Shut up you manc whingers!
TheMidfieldGeneral Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 ahem. NOTHING comes close to this one.. IMO of course!!
Ash Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 I can't remember the opposition or the season as I think it happened before I was born but in a discussion like this before I have seen Keegan scoring an overhead volley which was a belter. I think it was at the dell and I think it was a night match; can't find it on youtube though. Would like to see it again so any help appreciated.
eelpie Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Without trawling through them all I'm willing to bet it's between Big Ron's best and Le Tiss's best.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 ash it was against manure at the dell, keegans best goal that never was, classic
mattyg Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 ash it was against manure at the dell, keegans best goal that never was, classic This one?

Yes but the goal was disallowed as someone was offside even though it made no difference as the goalkeeper had no chance. Safe to say it would have been awarded today. I did look for it on you tube as I'm sure I have seen it again in the past few years but could not find it.
chrisobee Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 This one? Ah well done, that is it.The best goal that never was !!
georgeg Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Mlt last game at dell. I went f*****g mental the whole bl**dy ground did mate!
Ash Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 This one? That is it, many thanks. I forgot the disallowed bit, a cracking effort nevertheless.
chrisobee Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 That is it, many thanks. I forgot the disallowed bit, a cracking effort nevertheless. Well as you said you weren't even born so not hard to forget that part, those of us who were there were livid, well I was anyway !! David Armstrong certainly was not seeking to gain an advantage or indeed did not even gain an advantage so even at that time it should have stood.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 armstrong wasnt even interfering with play, some great goals scored by saints, have to say if it had stood it would have been imho the best.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Anyone remember Beaties goal against Chelsea? It wasnt too long after the game started and he was nearly on the halfway line(or so it seemed). Although we didnt win,we were 1-0 up for ages. Oh happy days.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 danny wallace's over head kick at the dell. cant find it on you tube but im sure it was goal of the season. cross from the left wing and BOOM
equalizer Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Micky Channon's against Liverpool at the Dell early 80's after we passed the ball about 20 times, voted goal of the season by ITV I think we still lost the game but as the commentator said, "You won't see a better goal than that this season!"
Berkers Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 It was against Man Utd 82ish. It was 2-2 at the time - a cracking overhead volley from KK but Armstrong had strayed offside (would be allowed today). Armstrong made amends by scoring the winner a few minutes from time!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Anyone remember Beaties goal against Chelsea? It wasnt too long after the game started and he was nearly on the halfway line(or so it seemed). Although we didnt win,we were 1-0 up for ages. Oh happy days. Was watching 'Premier League Goals' on ESPN classic the other night and that goal was on there. Was a scorcher!
alpine_saint Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Keegans disallowed goal against Ipswich must be up there.
Saint137 Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 What you forget about MLT is his celebrations, always quality Also overlooked is just how bloody good the last goal at the Dell was, the ball was almost behind him when he hit it, amazing shape on the ball as the famous photo shows. For me though the best Saints goal is the Liverpool one at the start of the thread, its the best team goal I've ever seen. MLT's juggling act against Newcastle is a close second, with Moran against the skates, purely because of what it meant.
chrisobee Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 This one? But this remarkably similar effort albeit in a 5 a side game counted. Offside surely ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcfheFPKUlA
chrisobee Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I'd almost forgotten this Pahars goal, think it was the same game in which MLT scored one of his easiest goals ever, a fairly tame effort which went through the legs of Tahibi the Man U goalie?
chrisobee Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Finally, a video which shows once and for all that Stokes was NOT offside! Was clearly played onside by the manc defender nearest the camera. Shut up you manc whingers! I think all of us who were there knew it was not offside !!
captain sensible Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Barry Horne..........v Bolton! No Contest!
