superstevesaints Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 this is NO joke, I have just come back from the car auction, and on the way past SMS, i saw 2 large cherry picker type vehicles, not sure what they were doing, but anyway, the other person I saw walking with this other chap in a suit was none other than Bobby Robson. I was certain it was him!!!

CWD Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Not wanting an argument but if I were a manager think QPR have a lot more potential though maybe we should try and see what the pros and cons are of this... Team in the prem but will always struggle or QPR lower div but with far more backing, any thoughts? Are you tryin to start sumfin mush? No really i see your point, and i reckon its the crux of the whole debate - are we a good enough prospect to tempt people away from more established teams? IMO that would be a no as far most CCC managers go, but tbh its reasuring that other ppl feel differently coz it means the likes of Ferguson may feel the same. Still i do think its unlikely though with regards to ferguson as he has just signed a new contract

Joesaint Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 You don`t mean BRYAN Robson do you? ooooh thats better
Badger Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 You don`t mean BRYAN Robson do you? Bobby Robson would still be a better bet even allowing for his age and health.
RonManager Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Well SuperSteveSsaint, was it Mr Bryan 'Laughing boy' Robson?
S-Clarke Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 You don`t mean BRYAN Robson do you? He's another one of those ''great former players'' that doesn't actually make a good manager. but because of his reputation, clubs always seem to appoint him. He kept WBA up that year by fluke imo, he's generally just rubbish. Kevin Blackwell beat him hands up at Sheff U with the same squad...
Gordon Mockles Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Has Jamie Redknapp been mentioned? FWIW, I think he'll make a very good manager one day and he's certainly a bright prospect, if he wants to go into football management. He talks a good game. People will jump on the "Skate" bandwagon (cos of his old man) but you can't blame Harry. Lowe f*cks off the best of people and I don't hold anything against either. Jamie may be comfortable with his Sky pundit work (he's doing well for himself, tenancious as he may be) but this could be a very good opportunity for him to get into management, with a solid coaching team behind him. Certainly with a foundation for the future. He knows the club (having played for us) and location wise it must be good for him. I think he could be a good contender. Sorry if it's been mentioned but genuinely not see his name and haven't the time to read through all the threads.

saint1977 Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 According to one of our ex-players we have approached S****horpe for Nigel Adkins. Ive emailed scunny fanzine to find out if they have heard anything. This is my first post - easy aint it. Grayson left Blackpool for Leeds so possible but can't quite see this one. Plus Adkins has just signed a couple of decent players, including Jones from Hibs.
offix Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 The artyicle in the Echo about Oldknow taking his time with a new appointment includes a poll. In their list of possible managers they include Ivan Golac! Where did that come from alll of a sudden. Do they know something we don't?

Golac is ex-Saints and the club are being professional and not leaking like a sieve but that's a very wild guess. Golac did well at Dundee Utd but that was getting on for 20 years ago.
CWD Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 on the echo poll, how did Adams get 4% of the vote!? I smell something fishy there...
Ohio Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Strachan, but it will never happen. I would like to give Nigel a proper chance again.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 on the echo poll, how did Adams get 4% of the vote!? I smell something fishy there... Could it be Skates voting?
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Strachan, but it will never happen. I would like to give Nigel a proper chance again. Either would do for me. BTW, I still f*cking hate your avatar...
Sheff Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 As much as i'd pleased with Strachan or Pearson coming back, i doubt it'll happen and i'm always slightly worried about 'hero's' returning. (Maybe not so with Matt as he's 100% red and white and bar managing Pomp*y could do know wrong in my eyes.) It's for that reason it still has to be Tisdale. I just worry that the likes of Hoddle and Curbishly might think a bit above themselves for league 1 and not put in the hard yards. Of course you never know. Prefer not to have Adams, please. Keegan i think would be a bit short term but nevertheless exciting. Boothroyd or Coppell would be 'sensible' choices but for me Tisdale would be no more of a gamble and it would be great to see an ex -saint come back.
Ohio Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Either would do for me. BTW, I still f*cking hate your avatar... I can't remember putting it back there (The avatar) I musta been drunk at the time.
Ohio Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 As much as i'd pleased with Strachan or Pearson coming back, i doubt it'll happen and i'm always slightly worried about 'hero's' returning. I know what you mean about returning managers, but I don't think that applies with WGS. It is not in his character to fail without trying every option. Remember him as a player? He was the most tenacious SOB I have ever seen. He would never take an easy option, and has more fighting spirit than a bar full of Scotsmen. Sadly, it ain't gonna happen anyway, so it's a moot point.
RedArmy Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Just pay the wee scottish one whatever he wants and get it over with. We need to get on with the real business NOW.
gjphilsaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 I am going on holiday on the 25th and not coming back until August 8th.. I would like to leave the country knowing that this club is in good hands with a decent manager.. please get this sorted asap.
allsaintsnocurves Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 I don't think Strachan has anything to prove by coming back to Saints with us in League 1. He could get a job in the premiership tomorrow. If he did come to saints and started really well and then Man City sacked Hughes he'd be the first manager they call! I'd prefer a manager who will offer Saints some stability that's why I'd go for Boothroyd or Tisdale...simples!

SNOWY Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Just pay the wee scottish one whatever he wants and get it over with. We need to get on with the real business NOW. I agree. I understand and support the new owners plans to spend proportionally to the league we are in but if there is one position it is worth splashing out on it is the Manager. The most important person at the club. I don't think it will just be the salary the WGS will be concerned with I think he will want to be certain that we will do things his way. I.E. training & preparation wise. He will want to fly to the furthest matches and stay in certain hotel etc He will also want his own support staff. Prepare as if we are a premier league club.
steve f 48 Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Everyone has been banging on about the new manager is going to be English. Why couldn't they bring in, say, a Frenchman, who could then bring a number of French players, whose abilities were all known to him? Why has he got to be English? Henderson knows the current squad. They talk to each other and off you go.
skintsaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 is Cotterill employed yet? Could be worth a shout.
NickG Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 is Cotterill employed yet? Could be worth a shout. not for few years for some reason??
CWD Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 wouldnt mind Cotterill at all my choice: 1)WGS 2)Coppell 3)Tisdale 4)KK 5)Cotterill Im not including Pearson, Ferguson or Hoddle purely coz i think they are so unlikely. However i would obviously be delighted if they got job

I say this every time but no manager can guarantee success. Bally should have been rubbish for us - he was for everyone else. Burley should have been great and he wasn't. There's really no way of judging whether Tisdale would be that good or bad but I think the ex saint thing has been overplayed. The club may have had a big impact upon him but as a player he didn't have a big impact upon us. I know injuries etc and he was with us for 6 years but even so his appearance record barely merit the title "ex-saint". Oh and didn't he wear a cravat during one of Exeter's play off games? I'm not sure people who wear cravats make good managers though i suppose it would sort out the last away game theme.

Cannot vouch for its veracity, but the poster is always very assured in his comments and has been correct on a number of previous issues. We'll have to wait and see I suppose... "As posted yesterday. Strachen will be announced tomorrow or Thursday. He was at the airport seeing off his wife. Info is from the inside. No news because there is an embargo. Appointment was prepared 10 days ago. Transfer targets (out and in) are already in place. Appointment is 5 year contract with performance payments (significant ones) linked to promotions, one to championship, then CCC to Premiership. Affordable entry cost but huge financial incentive to be successful. Echo have missed this because they aren't connected inside the new regime. New team are cautious of Echo news style and approach in this important transition and new start period. The news out is being managed very carefully hence Echo's thin news stream since the takeover. Just look back at stories on saints since then. You won't find anything of substance or value.

NickG Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 1) What possible motive for news embargo? 2) echo missed as not close to new regime - daily quotes and a two page interview with Cortesse Something doesn't sound right about this info, sorry.
InvictaSaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 You say he has been right before. About what exactly has he predicted before it happened? If memory serves s/he (not sure which!) was aware of the Swiss completing before others and that Wotte would get the chop. I don't know the person who posted these comments and just happened to notice them whilst idling through the usual nonsense on the Echo site but -spellings aside - I am prepared to give him/her the benefit of the doubt before disbelieving. Not sure of motive for news embargo, but I doubt any of us could claim that there has been a steady flow of news coming out of SMS since ML took charge. They, quite rightly, appear to be keeping their own counsel on important matters until such time as a deal is done or a decision made. As for your second point Nick, I don't live in the Southampton area any more so don't know if there is more in the paper Echo than online but if I am playing devil's advocate I could say that the Cortese (sp?) quotations could have been delivered to a wider audience than just the Echo and picked up at the press conference. ALso, when re-reading the Oldknow article on the Echo site today it is noticeable that there is not a single direct quotation. All of which, I suppose, could lend a degree of credence to the original poster's claim of a news embargo. Just passing on what I saw. As I say I have no knowledge of the poster or his/her authenticity / reliability, but felt it was interesting and detailed enough to merit cutting and pasting.
NickG Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Cortesse bit was a full double page question and answer bit could lack of news coming out be because there hasn't been any news?
CWD Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 sorry for being a bit ignorant, but i dont really understand what is meant by a 'news embargo'. is that barring all verbal output from the club? or does it just mean that ppl have to keep quiet on the manager front? or does it mean putting an embargo on communication with the media? I am somewhat confused.com
dubai_phil Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 The story could make sense. It has been interesting that just about every normal source of leaks to ITK's has dried up. Whether it is from the squad or employees there has been silence. So the only analysis is nothing is happening or something has happened. The "sudden surge of major bets" comments from the odds thread sure sounds like insider news blackout type activity So the only analysis then would be - Why? If it is all done then the only angle has to be that people are running around getting stuff done backroom staff, strategy changes, player targets etc. A blackout doesn't prove it's Strachan, Coppell fits the bill as does someone already employed who needs to be bought out of their contract. But I do hope so If not WGS then Coppell, if not Coppell then (I'll get stick) someone like Reid - older guys wanting a last shot with all the motivation in the world, but if it WAS him then I would want him - not as the man forever, but as the man to get Killer or another newbie up to speed.
RedArmy Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE. They'd make the money back in 3 weeks from Season Ticket sales. The amount of people that have said they'd definitely get one if we got Strachan back has been quite large. Whether they'd back it up is another story, but I know they wouldn't get one without him.
