Marsden was poor in his last few months here. Even after Strachan announced he was leaving it wasn't all bad. Anyone remember playing Man United away, Saturday lunchtime game? One of Strachan's last games, we lost 3-2 but could have easily won on another day. We played so well.

i remember that...BT was dropped and we were the better team

didnt ormerod miss a sitter which would have put us 3-2..then Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored i think to give them the win..

Kevin phillips scored a cracker too that day...it was a proper ding dong of a football match if I remember rightly..

so sad, that team just need 2-3 new players just to get that little bit more out of them

Should've been 2-2.....United in getting offside decision go their way at OT shocker.

We deserved at least a point.

Why does the poll drag out the usual suspects , when was the last time we appointed someone who was on a poll on SwF or its previous format ??

Not sure you can blame this forum for not giving us the option of Nigel Pearson a couple of years ago, he wasn't on anyone's radar, or Jan Poortvilet last season.

George Burley was definitely on a poll and did well back in the day.

It could be someone we haven't even thought of yet, but we'd need a poll of about 100 names to cover every conceivable option.

Has Strachan ruled himself out yet like mickey

adams??

Re. Adams - That reminded me of when Andrew Cole 'retired' from international football - as one paper later said, "Andy Cole was the last person to confirm that his international career was over".

Why just one vote? Do you think everyone thinks only one person can do it, the rest on your list are crap? Bollerx. i voted for WGS, but that is not going to happen in this particlar space-time continuum. I would also wet myself over (err, metaphirically, you know) Keegan, would be more than happy with Pearson or Coppel, and there are a fair few acceptable or better.

Not Adams though please.

We're in the third tier of British football on -10 points and loosing money every week. Keegan and Strachan! Get real with the expectations. A big name would draw bigger players but I can't see it happening. ML will have a limit to the money he can pump into the club.

We're building from scratch so maybe Tisdale would be a good choice.

I remember how Strachans last stint with us was going belly up just before he left. The magic had gone. It was looking like Coventry all over again.

Um, yeah, the magic almost certainly went when the team found out he was leaving. Judging by performances I'd say it was between going 4th and stuffing the Skates the week before Xmas, and the appalling performance by the entire side at Loftus Road against Fulham on Boxing Day.

Hell of a coincidence otherwise...

I heard from a reliable source at the begining of June that WGS was involved with the group planning the take-over.

I assumed it was the Pinnacle group; but preying it wasn't now!

Fingers crossed, because he IS the man for the job, and showing all this support on here MAY even help :D

Simples:cool:

Exactly. He said his biggest mistake at Coventry was not leaving a year earlier. He clearly wasn't going to make the same mistake with Saints, done it again now with Celtic - get out before it goes completely TU, with reputation largely intact. I think he has honed timing of his exit pretty well now.

He could be a viable short (ish) term appointment and you might get one cycle out of him but is he able to develop, adapt and rebuild a team as required according to the level we are playing at?

As ML has said, the strategy will be to buy players appropriate for the current level and upgrade as we hopefully move upwards. I have never been keen on Keegan as a manager as I still see him as a quitter , but this is exactly what he did with Fulham.

Agreed re the building from scratch. We need to blend in some new faces in those crucial areas (e.g. someone with guts and drive on the field) and make the best of the rest of the dross we have until they can be replaced. It wont be done overnight. Surely they need to improve their fitness levels and someone needs to instill some fight into this team.

IMO rebuild in two broad phases (1) Stop the rot, stabilise and change the mentality of the club to get us back to the CCC. (2) The leap from the CCC to the PL and the ability to stay there I think requires a different skill set. Sturrock being a prime example of not being suitable for the top-tier.

There is as little need for a big name manager as there is for big name players at this time.

Strachan if appointed could well turn to Scotland for an influx of players.

Unlike with Neil McCann, his left wing failure which wasted £1.5m, he now has four years experience watching Scottish football.

Over the years we have picked up some good players in Scotland, all of them strong characters.

I think you'll find that most of that loss was servicing the mortgage and debts we had accrued over the last 3 years. Now there is no mortgage and no debt. The wage bill has also come down substantially over the last 12 months, we will have a larger average crowd than last year, with renewed enthusiasm of the fan-base creating greater cash-flow and we have a rich owner that will subsidise spending as and when it is justified.

Strachan isn't going to happen, ever, people need to realise this because when the new man is announced you are all gonna feel slightly disappointed having got your hopes up for WGS.

I won't be disapointed. If we're looking at a long term 5 year plan i don't think he'd be up for it. I'd much sooner have someone like Nigel Pearson who is driven to a manager who's had his day.

Dowie wouldn't be a bad shout, IMO.

Got Oldham to the play-offs in this division in his first managerial job, so he knows the league.

How about a Dowie and Tony Adams dream team then? We might not play pretty football but their ugly mugs would scare the sh*t out of the opposition every week.

Whats Paul Jewell doing these days?

Good shout, I had forgotten about him. I would also like to see Dowie. I think we have to accept Strachan, Keegan & Shearer would not be interested in managing a League 1 club.
