suspect everyone Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 That goal he scored on his debut against Derby was absolute quality, when it hit the net I was filled with so much expectation for his Saints future. However, as someone else has already mentioned, it appears that that goal was actually the peak of his Saints career. If you took away who his Dad is and who his half brother is then he'd be playing way down the leagues. He really isn't good enough for the Championship and a season in League One may have been beneficial for him. Ah well, easy come easy go.
Doctoroncall Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 If he goes I might even look back fondly on him. I will be even ruder about him if he stays. I wouldn't have been so anti him if he'd been a talentless trier - and we've had a few, but he has talent but not the brain or application to use it. That is what frustrates me Spot on, I don't think he has the aptitude or application to the talent he shown in fits and starts.

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 What I actually said, Kermit, was that I will be even ruder about him on here. I never abuse the players at a match. And I would have thought even a muppet like you could see it was said as a joke. However, I still don't rate him as a player based on the evidence of my own eyes Read your post you idiot....You did not state your "abuse" would be restricted to here and to be honest i doubt you would only restrict it to here. labibs Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 Spot on, I don't think he has the aptitude or application to the talent he shown in fits and starts. I agree completely. I think he does have talent, he just doesn't seem to want to knuckle down and make the best of himself. Thing is, he'll probably be able to get a decent career as a CCC striker, based purely on his name, so if no-one pushes him to do any more, what do you expect? Chez Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 24 goals from 143 appearances - what else do you need to know about a striker? even if a lot were substitute appearances about 80 odd were as a sub. What the stats fail to show is how hsi pace turned teams round and offered us an out ball down the channels. What it also doesn't tell you is how bloody poor we became when we didn't have him running down the channels and instead had the likes of Stern john standing around waiting for a chance to be laid on a plate. What I never understood was why after chasing four or five horrific punts into no mans land when he decided the next one was just pointless to chase he would be lambasted by fans for being lazy. He wasn't lazy, he just got terrible, terrible service which on the odd occasion he decided wasn't worth chasing... and he was right. Just like Surman he needs a move so I'd be surprised if he stayed.

When however he would start a match he would be lazy, he wouldn't chase any balls into the channels and wouldn't make himself available for the ball to feet, back to goal, like the likes of John would do. I wonder whether he felt that he needed to 'pace' himself through a whole match, and because he didn't start with the same intensity as when he was a sub he would not be able to up his commitment levels once the game got going, and so appeared less influential. It has been a shame, because on odd occasions, such as Wolves at home 2007/08, he looked a class player, but he has never been consistent with it. Arizona Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 still think he will be a good player at this level! Watch out for another player who will come back to bite us in the arse! I'd just like to correct this myth using statistics if I may. An average striker would score, for arguments sake, 10 goals a season in any given league. In a league like the CCC you will play against 23 teams in a season. So if a striker scored 10 goals against 23 teams, there is around a 45% chance a striker will score against a particular club in a given season. So IF BWP were to go to Plymouth and they and Saints played each other in the CCC (yes I know) for 2 seasons, there is a 90% chance he would score against us at least once. Put simply, it's not one player biting us in the a*se. It's people having selective memories and ignoring the 50 odd other players who will score against us in any given season. washsaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Can't understand why people think this is good news. Whilst not a world beater, nor even close to it, we will miss his pace and experience in league 1 - we're not in the Prem or CCC and I, personally think, BWP would have done well for us in this league. We're in great danger (and I was a big supporter of this failed strategy last year - the balance needs to be better) of being left with raw, promising young 'uns and 1 or 2 senior pros. All this talk of getting in 5 or 6 players now won't actually help us as they'll need to bed in, learn to play with the rest of the team, etc. and we have no guarantee they'll be any good. Quite frankly, we're down to the bare bones and not having a manager in seems quite peculiar: basically we won't have had a pre-season. makes the decision to remove Wotte immediately a bit of a strange one! What I meant was it's not actually her cash to begin with. She hasn't hit the jackpot on Deal or no Deal and donated the whole lot to Saints. He is an expencive player to have around that as yet has not proved he is worth the wages he has been on. Patterson - you've got to be kidding?! Neither he nor White should be counted on to lead the line this season -support, subs maybe- but we need proper replacements, ideally style for style (so we need the pace of a BWP, something which Patterson hasn't got).
