Thedelldays Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 I am more concerned that we all HAVE to contribute to the likes of johnathon ross who is on circa £120k a week when you compare that to entertainment the top end footballer give you...it is of no comparison

Redondo Saint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 It's all about market forces. If a club/business believe a player is worth 200k per week then so be it. Providing they can sustain this level there is no problem from a business point of view. Players are assets and if a club get a return on the asset there is no problem. The money in sport, music, showbusiness, etc, is plain stupid. However, until fans decide to not spend money on tickets, TV, etc, nothing will change. If you like watching football but are disgusted with players salaries, I suggest you watch non league.
offix Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 Eventually changes will have to be made. Unfortunately though too many people are getting too rich under the current set-up, so I am afraid that it will take the financial collapse of more than a few of the current BIG clubs in the world before common sense will take over and some sort of caps will be imposed on salaries, transfer sums, etc. We may actually find that we were "lucky" to drop to the lower leagues before that unavoidable collapse of some of the giants happens. We could emerge strong and much healthier than the clubs that are currently in the highest leagues around the world. It'll be a while though. Clifford Nelson Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 IMO a fragmentation of the league will occur and I will be happy to watch Saints win the CCC year after year and decline promotion to the Premiership where it becomes too expensive and marginal to operate for a mid-size club. You are echoing a point I've made once or twice. Would I enjoy the perennial scrap against relegation every year in the Premiership or would I rather see winning football in the Championship. I know that it isn't quite as simple as all that, but seeing us winning games goes a long way towards happiness. Any attempt to get back in the premier would have to be enourmously well funded, and I don't want to suffer relegation like the last time again. Dalek2003 Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 Footballers are the equivalent of the Roman Gladiators ! I think it is terrible, but how do you stop it. IMO there will one day be an implosion of the Premier League, most probably when it is replaced by a European Super League.

An interesting article here on coping with the drop. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8050784.stm
