trousers Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 The worse our performances in pre-season = the more Mr Liebherr is likely to spend on decent manager and decent new players before transfer window closes? Am I warm?
trousers Posted 11 July, 2009 Author Posted 11 July, 2009 Whoops, just seen another thread along similar lines. That'll teach me to drink Pinot Grigio all afternoon
Bakovnetski Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 Like you Trousers. Pint of Rebellion and I'm loosening up. The new owner and the management team will surely be under no illusion as to the task ahead of them and the need for immediate investment prior to the transfer window closing at the end of September(?). WE cant wait until January for sure. Bring on the Swiss Francs.
OfnPanad Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 Yes, good for me - got 8/1 on promotion with Skybet
david in sweden Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 The worse our performances in pre-season = the more Mr Liebherr is likely to spend on decent manager and decent new players before transfer window closes? Am I warm? 1) I don't think there were 11 players available who even turned out for Saints regularly last season, so the results aren't really important. 2) Very few players have played together before so no " mind-reading " between players who know each others play style. 3) If I read reports correctly, Wednesdays game and partly yesterdays were better suited to water polo ( yes I know we play in all weathers) but trying to put a team of partially-fit players together and expecting to see creative football isn't high on the agenda. It's a pre-season fitness exercise. 4) We actually seem to have taken the lead in these games...and were leading 1-0 till last min.at Totton, and 2-0 at Salisbury and conceeded late goals..yesterday a goalie-blunder and Ollie " got us into another fine mess..." 5) The collapse in play seem to have come when using the Academy lads in the second halves of games, whereas the "strongest sides" put out in the first 45's with established names seem to have done OK. All things considered it's not a total write off so far, as we still haven't seen much of Thomas, Saga, Euell and Powell. The rest are untried teenagers , some of whom (thankfully) show some promise. EXPECT the new manager to buy some tougher central defenders, and do something with the strike force. There's plenty of bodies available to choose a midfield from. I'm neither suprised or disappointed. In the past, good pre-seasons have led to disasterous starts,we now see we are still at the drawing board stage.
SO16_Saint Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 (edited) Yes, good for me - got 8/1 on promotion with Skybet 16/1 with PaddyPower. I cant remember when we had a GOOD pre-season, so no worries for me. Edited 12 July, 2009 by SO16_Saint edit:6/1 promotion, 18/1 outright win
Michelle Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 Wouldn't read anything into Eastleigh and Totton at all. They were clearly fitness games than tactical tests - if they were supposed to mean anything we wouldn't have completely changed the team at half time!
Michelle Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 (edited) 16/1 with PaddyPower. I cant remember when we had a GOOD pre-season, so no worries for me. Just checked out Paddy Power, it's currently 18/1 for the title, and 6/1 for promotion. Sky have got best odds for both atm, 25/1 and 8/1 respectively. Edited 12 July, 2009 by Michelle

Good observation Michelle, There a few games scheduled for the Reserve/Academy sides, everyone must have a run-out in pre-season games, and occasionally we find a diamond !
