Redbul Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 It's this push with the yanks, Operation Panchai Palang. Knew there would be casualties but even so, it's hard when it happens.

Smirking_Saint Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 You sound quite angry. These things really are not important enough to let them effect your health my friend, seriously, Looking back, posting about the death of someone seems a bit c*ntish, i am sorry about this. Not angry, not at all, just a bit sureal that every time a marine/army/Raf person dies in the current WARS it is made as such a shock on news etc. Are they not being shot at ?? Not angry, not at all, just a bit sureal that every time a marine/army/Raf person dies in the current WARS it is made as such a shock on news etc. Are they not being shot at ?? You alright mate. I think that everyone's death is is sad. I feel sad for anyone who has lost a loved one, ever. I think that the reason that these deaths are reported in the way it is, is simply because if they weren't there doing it (being shot at), then who would be. Whatever any one thinks of the lifestyle, I can think of no worse job on this earth than being shot at. Brave men and women and I want to know when one of them dies so that I can say a prayer for their families and loved ones.
BotleySaint Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Seems that basically we're moving our troops into a more dangerous area / even more in harms way. So more deaths are inveitable. To be honest, i've forgotten why the F**K we are even IN Afghanistan...

Viking Warrior Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 The five that died were on a routine footpatrol in the sangin area when they were hit. According to MOD they were not involved in the current initiative against the taliban. It is very sad when any serviceman dies in armed conflict yes the media hype it up as they have their own agenda . They don't have to focus on iraq anymore and instead have a new challenge with afghan. I take smirking saints point however Soldiers are getting shot. What ****es me off with the media is they don't report the figures for injured servicemen for afghan. now that would be a story the media could sieze upon. But either they do not want to focus on the wounded or the MOD are too scared to publish those casualty figures!!!! oh and they are not in single figures. Thank god our servicemen have first class medical facilities over there.

bridge too far Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 of course it is a shock... the current death toll is bucking the trend on a massive scale...usually it is a couple a month.... at the most it is one every 3 hours or so I was listening to a military guy on TV this morning. He said it's not unusual for the toll to be higher in the summer as the enemy hole up during the winter to regroup and come out of hiding in the summer. He said it happens every year. (I think he was in charge out there a couple of years ago).
badgerx16 Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 How would they react if our casualties were at the rate the Yanks had in Vietnam ?
Seaford Saint Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 I read this earlier today, and when I read it I can't help but think our armed forces are being used..... Afghanistan occupies a central position in the U. S. strategy for the economic control of the oil and gas resources in the entire Middle East, according to experts . Current estimates indicate that, in addition to huge gas deposits, the Caspian basin may hold as much as 200 billion barrels of oil-33 times the estimated holdings of Alaska's North Slope. V. R. Raghavan, a strategic analyst and former general in the Indian army, believes that the prospect of a western military presence in a region extending from Turkey to Tajikistan could not have escaped the geo-political strategists who waged the military campaign in Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban regime and replace it with a government they could control and protect-with a multinational army. In 1998, the California-based petroleum giant UNOCAL, which held 46.5 percent stakes in Central Asia Gas (CentGas), a consortium that planned an ambitious gas pipeline across Afghanistan, withdrew in frustration after several fruitless years. The pipeline was to stretch 762 miles from Turkmenistan's Dauletabad fields to Multan in Pakistan at an estimated cost of $1.9 billion. An additional $600 million would have brought the pipeline to energy-hungry India. Among the many advantages of the Afghanistan route, according to experts from the oil and gas industry, is that it would terminate in the Arabian Sea, close to key Asian markets. Vice President **** Cheney, as CEO of Halliburton, a major player in the oil industry, told oil industry executives in 1998, "I cannot think of a time when we have had a region emerge as suddenly, to become as strategically significant, as the Caspian." Calvin Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 That doesn't shock me at all. In a pointless war like this.. it was bound to happen.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 The really sad thing is that the troops are sent into Battle without the right equipment. Poorly armoured vehicles etc I am very sorry for the families of these poor souls.
Mole Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 I'd be interested to see the estimations of the casulaties we're inflicting on the enemy.
Kev Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 I'd be interested to see the estimations of the casulaties we're inflicting on the enemy. There was some army 'chap' on BBC Five Live earlier saying the ratio of killings is 90:1. (Them against us.) Like that makes all of this justifiable. Dubya and the Reverend Tony have a lot to answer for.

Me too - in the war for public acceptance I'm surprised they have not rolled out any potential gains in territory or enemy defeats, I guess there's been none This is going to be very messy and very long, we're fighting the fruition of years of training the Mujahadeen, we trained these people to fight the Russians now it's biting us in the ass. Crazy world
Al de Man Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Me too - in the war for public acceptance I'm surprised they have not rolled out any potential gains in territory or enemy defeats, I guess there's been none I don't think you're too wrong there. The American action is significant because the Brits are so thin on the ground that they are unable to hold any gains they've made in the past. Kev Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Right now, Gordon McBroon is saying this action in Afghanistan is preventing terrorism in the UK. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8146082.stm I would suggest it's influencing it.
Crab Lungs Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 My mate in the marines has just gone out to Afghan for the 4th time, said its getting pretty darn hairy over there. Just hope he gets back safely. Goddamn, our boys are brave.
