I am fairly confident that South Today have no more clue than your average paper-reader, message board observer.

They knew bugger-all about the takeover until the last minute.

I'm more concerned about where South Today expect us to find the funds to buy out Mickey Adams contract at Port Vale? We're not made of money FFS

Tony Adams - I dont think I will bother with saints

Micky Adams - will be very much deflated

Steve Coppell - would be very happy

I heard it was going to be Burley and Adams as defence coach. Will you bother with the messageboard as wel if this happens?

I would lose faith in football and jump ship to Man U for the glory

Not so sure. BBC South (inclding Solent) are pretty ITK, Oldknow gave Solent an exclusive interview earlier in the week. They do have some naff commentators (step forward Tony Husband) but in terms of gathering actual facts, they are unrivalled for finding out the truth.

We'd better hope for Coppell then.

Ditto. Wotte would have been better than Tony Adams!

But linked to the job just means that a paper has mentioned it, doesn't mean that they are linked at all.

Excatly. "believed to be" , "linked to", "understood","word is" all journalistic phrases for "we are guessing".

BBC South have little idea.Only last night they were suggesting that we would have a foreign manager in a continental structure.

Not true. I know for a fact they fell for the Paul Allen story hook line and sinker.

Indeed, and they knew naff-all about the takeover this time round.

Don't start that again. It was not a story - he was engaged in talks about buying SFC (perhaps not for very long) - fact.

South Today said Micky Adams, Tony Adams and Steve Coppell had been linked to the job. Nothing more. Nothing less. This simply means that some media outlets have linked them to the post. That's it. Having said that, I really hope that Coppell is the only one of those names to be considered by the new owners. Either Adams would be a massive disappointment.

If Tony Adams gets the job, we will struggle to get decents season ticket sales.

I doubt I will renew if he gets it.

If Tony Adams gets the job i'll eat my hat (a flat cap of course)

Well clearly all 3 have connections with the South Today region ( I assume it covers Reading but if not close enough) so if you wanted to pluck 3 names out of thin air then they are as good as any!

mmmmm... off the pitch yes. On the pitch, frankly SCW would dwarf Wotte let alone Adams...and by god I dont want Adams.

Steve Coppell looked tired and worn out at the end of last seaon. Washed out perhaps.

Tony Adams is another from skatesville. Nuff said.

Micky Adams is at least a former player and would understand what we the fans require. He might actually enjoy having some sensible money at his mercy. You may laugh but I would prefer him to a washed up old man and a skate. Though if Coppell was here to help Micky I could accept that.

Would still prefer someone with a bit of a CV though. Who is there that is free is the main question.

Cripes! South Today goes right up beyond Moreton in the Marsh in the Cotswolds so with your rational we are lucky Jim Smith didn't make it a possible Quartet with his Oxford United links!!!

Betting has been suspended on the new boss with 4 figure sums being offered on Strachan at 8/13 this morning. The money suggests that South Today are clueless.

I'll ask for my money back.

I would be very surprised if Tony Adams, or Micky Adams were given the job.

Tony Adams - Our new owner clearly means business. He hasn't made successful companies and billions for himself through these by being stupid, or hiring the wrong people. He will be smart enough to look at Tony Adams' previous managerial roles and will see he was a complete failure in both.

Micky Adams - We've just paid off Mark Wotte's contract. Yes, Markus Liebherr is minted, but I doubt he'll want to pay compensation to Port Vale just to get Adams. I think it would have to be someone truly special to pay compensation, and I don't think Micky Adams fits that bill, as much as I like him. Plus, I doubt he would have the nerve to walk out on Port Vale so soon after joining them, not for a league one team anyway.

I honestly think our next manager will be somebody who is currently a free agent. So Coppell is realistic in that sense, although he said he was looking to take a break from football to recharge his batteries, so I don't think he'd come either. That said, I wouldn't be disappointed with Steve Coppell at all, he's a decent manager.

And not forgetting there has been apparently so much money placed on Gordon Strachan that the bookies have stopped taking bets. This says one of two things:-

- There are lots of Saints fans out there with more money than sense, letting their hearts rule their heads.

- Somebody knows something.

And bearing in mind, WGS has apparently been sighted on SFC premises, I think there is a distinct possibility we could all be in for a happy time when the manager is announced.

I'm sure (or at least I hope I'm sure) the new board wouldn't be retarded enough to think, "that guy that got fired for being crap at Pompey, that'll get the fans behind us"

Without wishing to disrupt the "let bygones be bygones" feel-good factor, I can say with 100% certainty that your statement is untrue.

It's amazing that there wasn't an inquest into this nonsense, but probably reflected how utterly dysfunctional the club was at the time.

Paul Allen NEVER had any interest in purchasing Saints, never instructed anyone to engage in any talks, never looked into any preliminary investigations etc. His level of interest was zero. If not lower.

If anyone is remotely interested in how I know this, they can drop me a PM.

Quite right. It's odd that this fantasy persists.

My source is tommac - who finally admitted in a pm that the only contact with the club was from two lawyers from a small part of Allen's empire. And even then, they only made the single vague inquiry after tommac, who'd acted as their flying chauffeur, had spun them a line about how much of a bargain the club was.

After the lawyers' approach, ALL of the contact with Southampton was through tommac, who even finagled a 'finder's fee' out of the club, which I believe was a solid five figure sum. Tommac kept the 'PA takeover' alive so long that it became in the end little more than a hoax - as Jim Hone confirmed at the time.

...And minus one on Tony Adams, Mickey Adams or any member of the Adams family for manager!

if tony adams gets a sniff at it, deffo no getting season ticket. don't need another idiot in charge, just after getting rid of 2. (NO SKATE BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

i cant believe that their are people like you who have not bought their season ticket already. show some loyalty and but yer ticket.

totally agree with what you say about adams though. no skates needed thanks

i think you'll find its skates placing money on adams, they are ******s who enjoy winding us up more than watching their team. otherwise why would he be in the frame??, no credentials, nothing really, a good no. 2 to bagpuss, thats it, so im sure we have nothing to worry about.

Micky Adams would do a good job here imo he would help us out of league one and do ok for us in the championship and if given the funds may even take us in the premier league we need managers with experice in league one and championship with good records adams has that the other adams the sk8 can get stuffed i would be disapointed with the new board should they get him in only if he took us up would i begin 2 like him.

I don't think Tony Adams is manager material. He does, however, have a good reputation as a coach.

We need to rise above petty rivalries with Pompey. Personally, if we can't get Strachan, Keegan or Coppell I think Joe Jordan would be a good choice.
