kpturner Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 (edited) Just saw this and haven't seen it anywhere else - I am sure it will get closed if I am wrong. Just watched Wotte being interviewed in his car, presumably leaving Staplewood. Still kept a dignified and professional attitude to his sacking, although said it was strange to sign a contract one week and have it terminated the next. He was asked if he knew who his likely successor would and he said "Guus Hiddink - oh no, he is Dutch. That wouldn't be good" - made me chuckle. Andy Oldknow just said that they had approached nobody yet, they had just been deciding on the criteria they want a potential new manager to fulfil before they draw up a shortlist. Hopefully the criteria includes "must not have the initials TA". Edited 10 July, 2009 by kpturner
kpturner Posted 10 July, 2009 Author Posted 10 July, 2009 PS - the odds they showed had everyone at 20-1 except Strachan at 5-1. As usual they interviewed the most yocal fans they could find at the ticket office about a new manager and only one name kept cropping up. Shame nobody vociferously slated the possibility of TA.
CWD Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Ok this makes me feel slightly better, hopefully TA is just a horrible rumour.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 He was asked if he knew who his likely successor would and he said "Guus Hiddink - oh no, he is Dutch. St.Patrik Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 That Dutch thing he said was probbably a revenge for Illingsworths intervju when they phoned him about Keegan from Sky - or at least that whats im thinking...

I thought Strachan was quoted at 1-5 when I watched; may be wrong though?
yellow&blue Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I thought Strachan was quoted at 1-5 when I watched; may be wrong though? Yes he was
Nineteen Canteen Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I thought Strachan was quoted at 1-5 when I watched; may be wrong though? Your right and that soon tempered Wotte 'Gus Hiddink' joke. Wotte as usual was very professional and dignified and merely questioned why he was given a 12 month contract and then a week later he is sacked. Presumably his contract would have been made in full which is a touch wasteful if that was the case. Strachan 1/5 and they want a clean break from the past so go for a Lowe ex- hire according to the odds. My one worry is we have a super rich Leon Crouch as our new owner. Could be a bumpy ride! Still as far as manager books go I've seen shorter favourties than Strachan fall by the way side so there is hope yet.

Still as far as manager books go I've seen shorter favourties than Strachan fall by the way side so there is hope yet. lol. Absolute crap as usual. I love 19's posts. Wotte was not very good mate. To call WGS an ex Lowe hire is a joke... he was a bloody good manager who left as Lowe FAILED to support him. Saint Markus is not Leon Crouch. Fact... even their mothers are different let alone their nationalities. Who do you want as manager? Hang on, let me guess... Tony Adams?
Spudders Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 As usual they interviewed the most yocal fans they could find Me and my mate commented on this. It does seem like whenever there is a saints story on the tv they seem to pick some right weird looking yocal!
kpturner Posted 10 July, 2009 Author Posted 10 July, 2009 Yes he wasI stand corrected. Just couldn't believe anyone could be 1-5 at this stage.
Spudders Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Who do you want as manager? Hang on, let me guess... Tony Adams? Assume NC would like Adams due to the skate connection

QUOTE] and true to form Sundance Canteen slags off the new owner ... on the evidence of er not very much. Let us hope that our new owner is like Leon Crouch.. He saved the club by paying the wages in May & June. His surname begins with L - but because his name is not Lowe, 19 Canteen does not likre him!! Incredible
Micky Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 For those that missed the interview - you can catch it here: http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid13706332001?bctid=29097050001 Remains dignified and even appears understandable as well as the joke at the end.

He wasn't given a new contract though - he already had a 12-month rolling contract as academy director. This was amended to make him manager. So he'd still have qualified for the pay-off on the old contract.

My pet theory is that Fry knew Wotte wasn't going to be kept on and wanted to give him a 'thank you' for sticking with the club and helping with the sale.

Possible, but I think it more likely that his contract was amended because the club still needed a manager, he was already doing that and we clearly weren't in a position to bring in anybody new. It also meant that any new owners would be free to do what they wanted, without burdening them with a manager on a long and/or expensive contract.

Incredible I thought I picked up somewhere that NC has had / is having mental problems - I think ignoring him might be best

SFC Forever Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Wotte could well have stayed on becuse he was being paid. Thouh to be fair to him he was trying to do his job to the best of his ability. Therein lies the verdict. His best was just not good enough. He showed a professional attitude and for that I will thank him. He did apparently go after the job in Egypt so he was covering his bases at the same time. After a ridiculous beginning he did learn to show some respect to us the fans. At the end of the day I guess he just was not good enough.

He would have no business hiring or firing sfc employees - he was the administrator for SLH.
um pahars Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I thought I picked up somewhere that NC has had / is having mental problems - I think ignoring him might be best You're quite there. Nineteen/Sundance/Flashman/Third Man etc has been quite open with his mental health problems, so whilst we should happily have a banter/joke with him we should certainly refrain from going over the top (and getting personal etc). The thread the otherweek was OTT, but I'm sure that even allowing for his condition he won't mind with the odd ribbing.

He would have no business hiring or firing sfc employees - he was the administrator for SLH. He had the power to amend existing contracts -which is exactly what he did - converting MW from academy manager to team manager with a concordant change in salary.
