Draino76 Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 And why? I go for 'The Times', because its by far the most intelligently written commentary for all sports, global news, politics and business. Most recently they have been spot on with Saints, for example. I've tried all the rest like the Telegraph (boring), FT (meh), Guardian (left wing puke), Daily Mail (friend of slag Lowe, puke), Express (ha ha), and so on . The Sun is probably best for tits, but its only a 3 minute read. Is anything else worth a read?
Hatch Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Sun. I only get 20/30 minutes on the tube to read it, so it's fine. Plus I love all the random words they throw in to break up the paragraphs.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Sun. I only get 20/30 minutes on the tube to read it, so it's fine. Plus I love all the random words they throw in to break up the paragraphs. The Sun, because of the above bit in bold, and the often comical Sun Spots and rather funny Dear Deardrie.
tpbury Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I get the Observer, just for the footie coverage. In the summer I only get it once a month (ooo-err) as their 'Sport Monthly' is great!
thesaint sfc Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Sun, because I'm a c*nting student. Oh wait, no I don't. I read The Times and The Daily Mail.
Saint Mikey Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Daily Sport, although I do think they are still living off of great old headlines like: 'double-decker bus found on the moon' and 'I gave birth to a radiator'.
Saintandy666 Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Guardian because it has the best writing and stuff in it, and then Daily Mail for the lols.
1976_Child Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Telegraph, Independent, and Sun on the train to footy. Can't stand the times, and guardian.
thesaint sfc Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Meaning? Nothing. I just feel the need to hate everything you stand for.
Smirking_Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I read the sun. Good boobs and i can read sensationalized stories in my spare time at work.
Calvin Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Sun for me, although I am a 'simpleton'. I am a big fan of reading The Sun
Junction 9 Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Sun for my lunch break. Guardian/Observer for a proper read.
Sheaf Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I don't often buy a newspaper but when I do it's usually the Independent due to it not being aimed at people with a 2-figure IQ like the Sun/Mirror/Star/Sport; not full of rabid, right-wing scare-stories like the Mail/Express; and small enough to read in the car unlike the Times/Telegraph/Guardian.
1976_Child Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 if anyone wants a 'non-job' they should take the guardian. Stuffed full of 'smoking cessation assistants' and 'kitten meewing therapists'. All the sort of jobs which are going to have to be cut to ribbons to help bring down the bloated public sector and reduce the eye-watering levels of government debt.
Manuel Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Times and Guardian are both also small sized now. On the whole The Guardian is the best paper, but even there I find some of the journalism sloppy, misquoting or misleading and I'm no expert. The Times is probably more accurate and trustworthy and is often a good read. But I still prefer The Guardian. I've never tried The Observer though. The Sun is ridiculous but of course I read it. I worry that half the country takes it's articles seriously though which is why I hate it.
bridge too far Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Guardian is my first choice. Although left-leaning, it's not above criticising the government (which patently isn't left-leaning). If it's sold out, then The Independent is my second choice. I could never, ever, bring mysel to read any of the red tops because they're rubbish. The Daily Mail's headlines are always questions, designed to inflame. The questions are never answered.
LVSaint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 When I'm home, anything my parents have around the house - so The Grauniad, Independant or Observer.
Ludwig Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Economist (it's a 'paper) and The Guardian (now and again).
Bath Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 private eye +1. From them we get: The Torygraph (nuff said) The Daily Hate The Indescribably Boring The Grauniad The News of the Screws etc, etc Oh, I also read the Times Higher when I can be bothered.
Ziggy Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Good God - newspapers! Do they still have them? They are 15 years' out of date. Use the Internet!
saintwarwick Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Guardian is my first choice. Although left-leaning, it's not above criticising the government (which patently isn't left-leaning). How do you know they are rubbish if you cannot bring yourself to read them, surely the only judgement you can make on them is if you have actually read them
Deppo Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 The Independent because I like to think I'm one of the intellectual elite. This is different to actually being one of the intellectual elite.
bridge too far Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 How do you know they are rubbish if you cannot bring yourself to read them, surely the only judgement you can make on them is if you have actually read them  You're right - that didn't make sense, did it Until a couple of years ago, I used to work with a guy who did read it. He always got me to finish off the crossword and sudoku when he got stuck and I used to then read the paper for a laugh. But since he left, I've never read it.
Deppo Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I'll read any paper lying around at work, I'm no blinkered snob. Some days I'll buy several, but The Independent is a mainstay. Sometimes The Grauniad and occasionally The Sun for some juicy sports goss.
saint_stevo Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 Nothing. I just feel the need to hate everything you stand for. I had noticed. Do we need to hug it out?
Draino76 Posted 10 July, 2009 Author Posted 10 July, 2009 Good God - newspapers! Do they still have them? They are 15 years' out of date. Use the Internet! Yeah. I have a 40 minute commute with all the innernet **** on my phone; yet still I like a good newspaper, as it's a lot quiker to navigate through than my mobile broser....or maybe I'm gettin old.
Manuel Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 If you're looking to cut a rectangular hole out of one for use as a spy aid, The Observer is best.
John Boy Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Posted 10 July, 2009 I only buy the Daily Mail on a Saturday, out of habit and because it is an easy read with a few lightly amusing regulars. But mainly for the TV guide which my kids like for the soap update and having a look at what might be worth watching over the week, and I do the Arrow word in the back after Sunday Breakfast. All very effortless, I sometimes buy the Times or Telegraph as well just for a bit more of an intelligent read,
Johnny Bognor Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 private eye Good shout. The Guardian is my first choice. Although left-leaning, it's not above criticising the government (which patently isn't left-leaning). If it's sold out, then The Independent is my second choice. I had you down as a Socialist Worker reader For me, The Times if I am travelling, timesonline in the mornings (before I pop on here) and the Sunday Times (on sundays obviously)
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 When I commuted to London by train, I always got the Telegraph. Hated the politics but liked the reporting style. Now I rarely buy a paper, but surf the news pages of various papers online (usually the Times, Telegraph and Grauniad.) Oh, I also subscribe to Private Eye.
Weston Super Saint Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 I don't have a 'commute' to work so have no need for papers. Having said that my staff usually bring in copies of The Sun and Daily Echo. I look at the tits in the sun, and I read about tits in the Echo, so all in all a well balanced daily read
Weston Super Saint Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 Especially considering that you are a tit. Even more so
saintwarwick Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 Good God - newspapers! Do they still have them? They are 15 years' out of date. Use the Internet! The one I brought today definately had Saturday 11th July 2009 on it.
Stax Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 The Express because they don't like immigrants. And they bash Labour all the time!
Mao Cap Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 I read all of them for my job. The Indy and Times are the best all-round papers, the Grauniad is the funniest but too poncey and vegan-y. The Torygraph is for rich people who aren't aware of the existence of anyone earning under 100K a year, the Mirror is for people who are thick but not filled with hate, and all the rest are just fash rubbish. The Morning Star has some surprisingly good articles when it's not being too commie. Private Eye's very good in small doses, but I find it a bit tiresome if I read it too much - you end up thinking "Well that's very funny, but how about getting an opinion of your own?"
saintwarwick Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 You're right - that didn't make sense, did it Until a couple of years ago, I used to work with a guy who did read it. He always got me to finish off the crossword and sudoku when he got stuck and I used to then read the paper for a laugh. But since he left, I've never read it. They've changed since then, the girls have got bigger
bungle Posted 11 July, 2009 Posted 11 July, 2009 Guardian/Observer or The Independent (although I don't like many of their columnists). Occasionally will read The Times.
bungle Posted 12 July, 2009 Posted 12 July, 2009 No surprises there. Yes, I know. I can read a paper with words that have more than three syllables in. Unlike you, racist boy.
