Kelvin signing up for another 3 years reminded me of a discussion on MOTD when Utd signed VDS. I think it was Hansen who claimed having a class act in goal would bring them another 10 points a season. As it happened Utd scored 6 points more than the previous season, but have won the League every year since.

My question is, do you think Kelvin could have a similar effect here and therefore negate our -10? I.e. We're as well as having Forecast in goal and starting on 0.

I certainly agree that KD is worth at least 10 points - having a quality act in goal is vital. He'll be head and shoulders above any other GK in the league, he'll make the crucial saves that could get us into the playoffs, and even more than that he is a leader who inspires both players and fans

Without him we would have been relegated by xmas, he must have saved AT LEAST 10 points last season

I personally don't think the -10 points is such a big deal. I think that we can quite easily fight our way out of it with a decent manager and decent level of investment.

And yes, i 100% believe that KD will help us overcome it. As long as we have a decent team infront of him.

We should use the -10 as a kick up the arse and a "us against the world" as leeds did a couple of years ago.

Having a keeper like KD in goal will inspire confidence more than BB or TF would, i for one am happier now he is staying hes worth more than 10 points in the championship so in league 1 it will be more

Not sure of he saved us 10 points last season as we still lost far to many games (hence the relgation). However he did save our blushes by keeping 1-0 losses respectable rater than 4or5-0 which is could have been

As I recall, I first heard that expression from the legendary Brian Clough 40 years ago (forget his alcohol problems) the man was a footballing genius.

As manager, he signed Peter Shilton for some ridiculous sum at the time, and announced that Shilton was worth 10 points a season. In those days a win was only 2 points. His meaning was that Shilton was good enough to "win" at least 5 games a season by keeping clean sheets in goal. As it was it was considerably more, but few people understood his logic at the time.

I agree - with that KD in goal, and a half-decent defence in front of him, he should be able to take a pair of sunglasses and a good book with him, in the hope that he would have a few quiet afternoons in the Saints goal, and rely on the strikers to get us the 3 points / game.

Nice one Kelvin ! ..COYR !!!!!!!

Not sure I agree on him negating the 10 points but it's nice to be building a side from the back for once, if we get murty and maybe size we'd have our best defence in a long time.

Strangely, Van der Sar was listed as the worst keeper in the Premier League in his last season at Fulham. It was calculated that he cost them more points through errors than they gained from his world-class saves keeping them in matches.
