Dalek2003 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Speculation that Glenn Hoddle will be the new manager of Southampton FC grows in intensity. Got to be good !
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 That was on an hour or so ago! lol Speculation. lol.
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I'd take teh hod. I know he got a lot of people devided when his name popped up a while back but did a very good job with us and personally think he is a very good tactition and man manager. I would also speculate that with his new job i would hope he knew the young player market very well. Him or strach and i will be ecstatic !! This is just unreal
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 My guess is Oldknow will know that Hoddle is about as popular as a fart in an astronaut suit in Southampton and wont be recommending him. That said he would be OK in League 1 IMHO.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hardly speculation. The guy on the radio said he had heard GH name mentioned by a different source.
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I'd take teh hod. Him or strach and i will be ecstatic !! This is just unreal I agree... good this selling the club business.
Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 As I said elsewhere, Hoddle would not be welcome. He's a ****, not to mention a rubbish manager, who falls out with nearly every player he ever comes across. I'd be very disappointed if he is our manager next season.
DaveyR Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hardly speculation. The guy on the radio said he had heard GH name mentioned by a different source. That source being Dalek no doubt!!

( same as 2004) After serioulsy damaging the club once do you think people would thank fans for doing it again ? if Hoddle is the choice of our new owners i would expect all fans to back him. if the owner chooses another manager, he will have my support 100% !!! How about you ?
pilsburydoughboy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 You need a manager that will make his team Fit,strong, committed and determined. WGS will give all of the above Saints players have never been as fit or passionate since WGS left.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 WGS, or KK . Not Hoddle. Please. I have serious doubts about KK. I think he would attract the required publicity and draw fans back but i think he would be left lacking when put under pressure. I f it was to be KK then i hope he is unveiled at the Potters Heron for the press conference that nobody was expecting the outcome of.

How about you ? As I say, I think he'd be good in League 1 for us. But, what's the point in putting in a guy who most fans view as being disloyal and a mate of Lowe (even though I have it on good authority he was no friend of Rupert)? He's divisive, but good. Oldknow knows this.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I'm still undecided whether or not Hoddle would be a good appointment... There are certainly pros and cons, but I dunno. Strachan preferably, but if that is totally ruled out by Strachan himself I guess Hoddle will do..
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 You need a manager that will make his team Fit,strong, committed and determined. WGS will give all of the above Saints players have never been as fit or passionate since WGS left. Agreed. But, I think its a fantasy to believe he'll be the one... its too good to be true.

Dark Munster Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 You need a manager that will make his team Fit,strong, committed and determined. WGS will give all of the above Saints players have never been as fit or passionate since WGS left. I agree WGS did that, but arguably the players became fit, strong, committed and determined under Pearson as well. Anyway, no thank you to Hoddle. Even if we ignore the fact that he's a complete wånker, he's incompetent in the transfer market, and has terrible man-management skills.
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 If Hodlle was no friend of Wupert does this not make him more acceptable ? Yes but most view him as a top mate and perceptions are everything.
Dalek2003 Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoddle would be motivated, very motivated. He has a point to prove and that could take us right back inot the Premier league !!!!
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoddle would be motivated, very motivated. He has a point to prove and that could take us right back inot the Premier league !!!! Would he bring his faith healer?
Chez Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 whoever it is you just know he is going to be inspiring and better than Wotte (on paper). We are on a roll and things are just getting better with every day. Enjoy this people.
Dalek2003 Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Posted 9 July, 2009 Would he bring his faith healer? Who cares ? Whatever happens, the mood on this board is brillliant. I have woken from the nightmare and the world looks good !!!
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Who cares ? Whatever happens, the mood on this board is brillliant. I have woken from the nightmare and the world looks good !!! True.
Burnsie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Gordon Strachan has just left one of the biggest clubs in Europe, having won the league three times out of four. Forget about Gordon Strachan.
SaintRobbie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Gordon Strachan has just left one of the biggest clubs in Europe, having won the league three times out of four. Forget about Gordon Strachan. My thoughts exactly... but he has a house down here and is a legend here really. If KD can show unbelieveable loyalty then can WGS?
Tractor_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Gordon Strachan has just left one of the biggest clubs in Europe, having won the league three times out of four. Forget about Gordon Strachan. Ever been in a high flying job where you'd just wished you could have a couple of years out 'treading water' before being thrown into the hard stuff again?
Saint Charlie Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoddle would be good. He could work wonders with some of our young players and is a great coach. Would have been very successful with England were it not for the issues, that were nothing to do with football, tripping him up.
TheMidfieldGeneral Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 takeover done, pompey bid possibly on verge of collapse and hoddle in.. what a week, could it get any better!!
Saints Pedro Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 If WGS is ready to return to Management then where better than a 'local' club with money to spend [hopefully] and where he is held in high esteem and has a good chance of advancement?
Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoddle would be good. He could work wonders with some of our young players and is a great coach. Would have been very successful with England were it not for the issues, that were nothing to do with football, tripping him up. England were struggling in their qualifying group before Hoddle was sacked (Lost in Sweden, drew at home to Bulgaria, unconvincing win over Luxembourg) He should have been sacked for poor results, never mind what he said. It's common knowledge he was very unpopular with most of the players as well
Pat from Poole Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 If WGS is ready to return to Management then where better than a 'local' club with money to spend [hopefully] and where he is held in high esteem and has a good chance of advancement? There's another club about 15 miles away from his home who are after a manager. I don't think WGS would be too put off by most of their fans viewing him sceptically due to his association with us.

Saint Billy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I might be totally wrong but GS strikes me as the sort of guy whose life is'nt totally governed by the razzle dazzle side of football. He comes across as a down to earth type of guy who loves his family and privacy more than he does his football. There was a rumour that his wife did not want to move back to scotland and enjoyed living in the south and they still have a property here. For those reasons I think it is possible that he might consider coming back here to manage. Perhaps with the financial backing of the new owner, a fanbase that in the main loves him, a home here, it might be enough to temp him. Then again, pompey might even be more of a temptation because it still ticks some of his boxes. Is he the right man I'm not sure, although he got the squad fit, was passionate, called a spade a spade, stabilised the club, some of the football was grim at times, 2003 cup final comes to mind.
chi saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoddle...NO...the mans a judas, but far more importantly he's crap. What has he acheived except having the ability to divide opinon, between those who think he's useless and the rest who know he's useless. Well only have him because he has 'friends' advising the new owners.
Spudders Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Gordon Strachan has just left one of the biggest clubs in Europe, having won the league three times out of four. Forget about Gordon Strachan. Ever been in a high flying job where you'd just wished you could have a couple of years out 'treading water' before being thrown into the hard stuff again? Or from a slightly different perspective, ever been in a high flying job where you've taken it as far as you can and fancy a new and more difficult challenge? I took over managing an office a few years ago that had loads of issues, but I knew it'd be a massive challenge and that I had a lot of scope to build it up. ps GH no thanks.
ozzmeister Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I agree WGS did that, but arguably the players became fit, strong, committed and determined under Pearson as well. Anyway, no thank you to Hoddle. Even if we ignore the fact that he's a complete wånker, he's incompetent in the transfer market, and has terrible man-management skills. didnt he get Beatie playing the best football of his Saints career?
The boy done well Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 In our New Manager poll 3.51% want him. That's about right IMO. Thanks but no thanks
belgrave Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 What exactly did Hoddle do wrong last time he was here ? We didn't lose too much We didn't get relegated I didn't see any player walk outs ...we're a fussy lot
Block 5 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 judas backstabbing tosser, end of. For the first time I find myself in total agreement with Mr Nice. Ahh.......this united fanbase business is bliss.
EFM Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 didnt he get Beatie playing the best football of his Saints career? Not sure but he ****ed MLT's international career.
saintwarwick Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 What exactly did Hoddle do wrong last time he was here ? We didn't lose too much We didn't get relegated I didn't see any player walk outs ...we're a fussy lot We didn't get relegated under Strachan, Jones, Souness, Merrington, Ball and even the reckless Branfoot so Hoddle can be inserted alongside these as to what he did wrong or right.
Fowllyd Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Unfortunately you are in a small minority but with a very loud voice. How about you ? It must have taken you a very long time to get round all Saints supporters to elicit their views on Hoddle - elsewhere you suggest that 95% would have welcomed his return. I don't remember you asking my opinion though - perhaps I wasn't paying attention at the time, in which case I apologise unreservedly.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 y have x managers anyway.a new dawn a new sfc,a new manager who has not been involved in saints as a manager before would do me,not sure who,as long as its not dowie, coyr
bolo Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 (edited) As I said elsewhere, Hoddle would not be welcome. He's a ****, not to mention a rubbish manager, who falls out with nearly every player he ever comes across. I'd be very disappointed if he is our manager next season. +1 . Hoddle is a **** and what we need now is someone to unite the fan base not divide it. I will not be going to SMS if comes back. Plus the football was sh!te under him, we got lucky and ground out 1-0 wins when BT was on a hot streak. Edited 9 July, 2009 by bolo
LVSaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Who cares ? Whatever happens, the mood on this board is brillliant. I have woken from the nightmare and the world looks good !!! I don't think you've woken up yet have you. Hoddle may be fine for Div 1 but we are kinda aiming a bit higher with talk of WGS, KK or Coppell. (Hod was an option even I wouldn't have minded a year ago when things were really desperate but it's looking a bit rosier now.) ....oh yeah, he's also a **** who no one likes!
