Bookies odds on next Southampton manager

Have no doubt Adams has applied for the job. He said in the past he'd like to manage us, he knows the area, we're a big club with a bit of money for league 1 but low expectation really, so it's a great job for whoever gets it.

Whether the owners rate Adams is something we don't know. I think an appointment will come out of the blue at some point in the next 48 hours, and as usual, it won't be who we think.

Yep, I'm with you all the way on that

you're joking, right?

Peterborough have one of the best chairmen in the league, and probably the best up and coming young manager in the country.

They have an incredible strike force of Maclean and Makail-Smith, who scored something like 150 goals between them in the last 2 seasons. They turrned down a bid for Maclean from Wolves last Jan of £5m and bid themselves for an MK Dons player £1m.

The 'keeper - Joe Lewis is an England U21 keeper / striker - and is again, one of the best young-uns out there.

They own their stadium, and are looking to sell it on for development and build a new one, so theyre going places. Macantony (chairman) had a 5yr plan to be in Prem - that was 3 years ago when they were in the bottom half of League 2....

They are on the up and up and i wont be surprised if they are up there challenging for promotion again this season.

Indeed.

Plus, you don't actually have to be very good to get promoted from the CCC - Derby, Hull and Burnley did it.

If Posh aren't aiming for the play-offs this season they're selling themselves short, imo.

I knew someone from there was POSH......Well done to the Chairman...BaZZa and Darren and the Fans........They could be BIG like wot we woz once and will be again..

very good point.

the gulf between the prem and the CCC in terms of quality is massive

however, decent managers are able to adapt very quickly

brown did massively well last season with Hull as did Pulis

one for the football snobs, look how mowbray got on with WBA..!!!

I can never see Peter-bog-horror in the Prem.

When I lived there in the Cantwell days they were a reasonably well supported minor league team.

The surrounding are is very sparsely populated and their catchment area is only Peterbog and Huntingdon.

However thanks to Lowe I saw something I never imagined I would see in my worst nightmares-Saints and Peterbog swapping leagues.

I agree! The one style I want to see Saints play next season is "winning style". Last season's propaganda stuff really hacked me off with the excuses that we played good football etc etc etc. We kept losing FFS!! Ideally you want to win playing decent stuff but let's get the winning part right first and if it has to be direct, percentage football, so be it.

I notice how little real speculation it is in the media. Since agents leak like sieves in this country, could it be because Oldknow and Cortese are on the continent?

Maybe its because we are a League One club and the press aren't bothered with us as much compared to when we were in the Premiership. More likely however that the process is just being deliberately kept secret and Oldknow and Cortese are very professional.

To be fair, skybet have had them on and off all week! They are probably just preparing a new book!

Maybe, just as long as it excludes Adams altogether I don't mind! That said they suspend the market every night at 9pm till 10am so they would have had plenty of time overnight to prepare several new books! Methinks it is more sinister than that lol

A manager that other FL clubs have taken a look at...........Gary Brabin...Just left Cambridge. Hmmmmm completely left field I know, but well, this is saints after all!

I never heard that

That is quite interesting, because he was linked with us 2 or 3 months back

why is there alot of talk of DoF...why.?

Well apparently Cortese mentioned it (although i cant profess to have read the article) and also what Tony Husband said on ST

Still - only speculation

I think, at 33-1, Dennis Wise is a good bet. The more i think about it the more likely it seems

Wouldnt be great, but with a decent DoF could be pretty successful...

I'd take Wise and Poyet together - no reason they couldn't get us into the play offs next season.

In fact there are loads of managers out there I would take with confidence they could get us out of this league.

To be honest, in football management terms, there are harder jobs out there.

I'd have just Gus Poyet as manager. Charisma, well regarded on the training ground, knows this level, knows English football, media savvy, loads of contacts and would want the job I reckon.

And like ive said before the only way is up for this club!

Remember "we will walk this league" when we dropped into the C/ship? And remember what happened? Keep counting those chickens:o

Why why why?

Is it possible that I will only be able to enjoy the best Saints news in about 5 years for about a week. I wold be absolutely distraught if we go Donkey Adams. Clueless clown. Please lets not save ourselves only to shoot ourselves in the foot again.

Unbelievably bad news in my opinion. Really awful if its him.

Well, I never said that when we got relegated to the CCC.

But if Sheffield Weds, Forest, Man City, Leicester and QPR can do it, and Leeds can make the playoffs in their two seasons down here (one of which on minus fifteen), then I can see no reason why we can't.

People thinking we are going to "do a Luton" are far more deluded than people thinking we will actually do well in this league.

When we dropped into the CCC we were up against clubs of a similar size to us - from Wolves to West Brom to Sunderland to Ipswich to Derby to whoever. It was never going to be easy.

When we dropped into the CCC we are up against Yeovil and Swindon, Colchester and Southend. Some people don't like to hear it but we are bigger than those clubs.

But if we appoint Adams we will do a Luton.

When did we last defeat a league 1 or league 2 or lower league club?

Poyet would be behind KK,WGS and Tisdale in my preferences but thereafter I think he's a good shout as a young knowlegeable manager with potential.

this is NO joke, I have just come back from the car auction, and on the way past SMS, i saw 2 large cherry picker type vehicles, not sure what they were doing, but anyway, the other person I saw walking with this other chap in a suit was none other than Bobby Robson. I was certain it was him!!!

Well great manager and a lovely guy but Bobby has his never ending battle with cancer to deal with. If it was him you could hardly not recognise him TBH

Bobby Robson - for DOF? That could be interesting. But not manager. We need someone young enough to run them up and down sand dunes till they're fit enough to be seen on a football pitch, which they're not now.
