Bookies odds on next Southampton manager

Well the bookies will obviously shorten odds if they get a lot of bets ( or a lot of money) for any one person so there has clearly been a lot of money going on Adams, the question is where is it coming from? Clearly not Saints fans as you say but could be anyone anywhere who knows or thinks they know something. That said as I mentioned elsewhere this type of market is very volatile and it may just be a reaction to a few large bets. I don't believe Adams will be the new manager so hopefully those backing him will get their fingers burnt.

* Prays! *

Has anybody thought that it may be Tony Adams himself putting the money on .. he must surely know that he has no realistic chance of getting the job however he could be just marketing himself ( bigging himself up) to keep his name in the media for any other post that may be more suitable?

That would require the formulation of some sort of tactical analysis of a given situation - so on that basis - no

What amazes me is how constrained people are in their thinking when it comes to change. All the names above, collectively known as "the usual suspects" demonstrate only people's inability to think outside the box.

Why do fans expect a fresh new start with any past manager or associate who is carrying so much baggage from past connections with this club that our future is knackered even before he gets here? There will be always a faction 'pro' and a faction 'anti' any OLD manager, which is devisive in itself; that manager will walk in on Day 1 with fixed ideas about what needs to be done, a list of favourites etc etc, rather than a new manager starting from a clean sheet with all players equal and highly motivated.

We need a CLEAN BREAK! We do not need any of the above. We need not necessarily make a left-field choice but at least find somebody of sufficient stature, maturity and who commands respect and will stay the course for five years at least if things go well.

And... please... no more experimental weirdo's or giving 'young english unknowns (sic: cheapies)' a chance

Can someone please start a new thread with the title:

ATTENTION NICOLA CORTESE - DO NOT SIGN TONY ADAMS AS OUR NEXT MANAGER!!!

Just in case someone from the Liebherr team is browsing the fan websites...

There were c.17 threads with a title along those lines tail end of last week :)

How is Darren Ferguson 4th favourite when he's just signed a new 4 year deal at Posh?

Just shows what a waste of time, energy and agonising over betting odds is really. If Darren Ferguson appears in the betting then anyone can, hence Tony Adams appearing, who is renowned for whoring himself about over any vacant position.

I think we can all recount many occasions in football where a contract hasn't amounted to much eg Poortvliet etc etc.

DF has now well and truly proved himself and IMHO signed that deal in the euphoria of the moment. I can't see Peterborough ever achieving much more than they already have. However, with us he now would have a chance to take on a club at the level he knows ie League 1, but with the potential and resources to go all the way.

no matter how you slice it..he is no way going to come here right now

It would appear that he is being 'linked' with this job in the same way that he was recently 'linked' with the Celtic job. I am pretty sure that his agent will have something to do with this....

Have no doubt Adams has applied for the job. He said in the past he'd like to manage us, he knows the area, we're a big club with a bit of money for league 1 but low expectation really, so it's a great job for whoever gets it.

Whether the owners rate Adams is something we don't know. I think an appointment will come out of the blue at some point in the next 48 hours, and as usual, it won't be who we think.

I really hope that DOESN'T mean Adams!!!

For a non football person Adams proberly ticks all the boxs. He could make his CV look very good. Ex England Captain, good leader of men, won the lot with Arsenal, will have Arsene Wenger's backing, was Harrys number 2 when they won the cup and has coached abroad. However lots of people have looked like they'd make good Managers from Bobby Moore to David Platt, but they never actually were. Hopefully ML will be taking advise from football people and his results at Wycombe and Pompey just dont merit him being given a chance. This along with his Pompey past will make his appointment a massive dissapointment and again split the fan base.

Personally, I cant see it happening, however if it does, lets hope we all get behind him and judge him by results alone.

OK. So just suppose Adams IS appointed. Curious decision, but we will have to lump it. Cos there is nothing we can do. Period.

So, I am anxious to know what positives he could bring to the job. We aren't gonna be able to sing 'Adams out' on his first matches. That will be futile. I know that we all feel passionately that he is not the right man for the job. His weaknesses have been well voiced.

But our team is at total rock bottom. Completely demoralised. Adams does have experience. He surely is a tough guy who can kick arses. That will be a beginning. No?

If Adams is being quoted at short odds with one bookie and not others, surely that indicates unusual betting activity. Reminds me of the suspect betting activity when there was a sudden run on when 'arry was about to leave Saints for Pompey.

Worrying.

Since the new regime has come into power it is amazing how few people are now ITK itsn't it?

Presumably this chap didn't aquire billions by being an idiot or employing t*ats.

I do not understand why and who is linking TA with the club other than the bookies - the press are merely feeding off the bookies odds not off anyone ITK as far as I can see.

As I have said before I am sure this is all a ruse by our beloved dear owner to make him love him even more by not appointing the clueless donkey.

It is interesting though that even in the only 5 minutes of 'glory' we have had in the last 5 years we still find a good reason to s*it ourselves - it has however unified the fans at long last.

Their Chairman has put quite a bit of money into the club, not only on the playing staff but the infrastructure and I can see them doing well in the CCC.

you're joking, right?

Peterborough have one of the best chairmen in the league, and probably the best up and coming young manager in the country.

They have an incredible strike force of Maclean and Makail-Smith, who scored something like 150 goals between them in the last 2 seasons. They turrned down a bid for Maclean from Wolves last Jan of £5m and bid themselves for an MK Dons player £1m.

The 'keeper - Joe Lewis is an England U21 keeper / striker - and is again, one of the best young-uns out there.

They own their stadium, and are looking to sell it on for development and build a new one, so theyre going places. Macantony (chairman) had a 5yr plan to be in Prem - that was 3 years ago when they were in the bottom half of League 2....

They are on the up and up and i wont be surprised if they are up there challenging for promotion again this season.

Recent holders of "best up and coming manager in the country" title:

Phil Brown

Paul Jewell

Craig Levein

Paul Ince

Phil Parkinson

Adrian Boothroyd

and so on. It's tempting to assume clubs just promoted are just going to continue their upward trajectory forever, but chances are they won't. And the same with managers. Just because Ferguson, or Tisdale, haven't had a bad season, its easy to assume they are never going to have one. They will.

Phil Parkinson spectacularly led a unfashionable small town small fry club into the CCC only a couple of seasons back, precisely what Ferguson has done, but against more odds and on much less money. I doubt many Saints fans want him now.

Posh have probably found the peak of their level now, and if they squeak the play offs this season they will be punching spectacularly above themselves.
