They are looking for a manager with experince of the lower leagues according to the Sources talking to the echo so I doubt Christain Gross is being considered.

Tisdale,Boothroyd,Pardew,Poyet and Cotterill are probably the type of managers we are looking at ie mangers who are likely to stick around for the long haul with experience of this league or the lower leagues.Coppell built Reading up over a number of years and could be the No 1 target as some rumour if he can be coaxed into another job so quickly after leaving Reading.

Hopefully things are moving very fast and an appointment will be made before Tues game with Cheltenham as we need the new manager in asap.We need at least 5 new players before the new season and every day we are without a manger we lose out on potential players who could do a good job for us as they are snaffled up by other teams who are far further advanced on having their teams ready for the start of next season.

Bloody hell thats impressive as a CV. He'd need a man who knew the FL though as a sidekick.

dennis wise is what i reckon.

Must admit the Wise/Poyet team that nearly did mission impossible at Leeds did cross my mind.

Favs that drift from 1/5 to Evens usually have lost a leg on the way down to the start. Bye Gordon - TFFT.

Coppell, Pardew or Adams are not exactly going to be picked for their enthusiasm and ambition. We don't want dour, questionable or mad as a box of frogs as managerial attributes, IMHO.

As for Gross, can't forget his horror show at Spurs but has an impressive record otherwise but how you assess that against what is required for us I have no idea.

WE missed the boat in terms of the ideal candidate - Darren Feguson and my second choice won't leave his club or the area - Nigel Clough. We could get a caretaker in, until Mandaric sacks Boot Boy in October.;)

Oh good lord. Adams is now even money favourite with Strachan 5/4 and Coppell still 3/1. Still hoping the bookies are as clueless as us and just reacting to bets being placed by Skate fans!

I'm not a betting man so maybe I'm misunderstanding this but seeing as it's a landslide vote against TA on this website, which will presumably reflect the wider, non internet posting fanbase, why are the betting odds so opposite?

Perhaps I am being a bit simple here but given we are a League One side and have slipped so far from the elite of Premiership its untrue, how many people do you suppose are actually actively betting on the identity of the next manager of Southampton FC ?

Who outside of Hampshire and parts of Wilts, Dorset and W. Sussex are going to give a monkeys about who it is ?

I bet if 100 of us all put £1 on, say Hoddle, his odds would come tumbling down like a house built of playing cards.

The betting means nothing.....we arent Man Utd - there are not countrywide bets going on us honestly.

Well the bookies will obviously shorten odds if they get a lot of bets ( or a lot of money) for any one person so there has clearly been a lot of money going on Adams, the question is where is it coming from? Clearly not Saints fans as you say but could be anyone anywhere who knows or thinks they know something. That said as I mentioned elsewhere this type of market is very volatile and it may just be a reaction to a few large bets. I don't believe Adams will be the new manager so hopefully those backing him will get their fingers burnt.

Well not much gets leaked from the new owners but I'd have thought they already had someone in mind when they took over. If they had no one then the sensible thing to do would have been to keep Wotte. With that in mind and with Pearson's links to both the club and Oldknow I'd probably guess that Pearson is front runner. He fits the already stated criteria (well stated by the Echo anyway).

It's not an appointment that leaves me awestruck but it might be the most sensible.

Personally I'd have Boothroyd, or Dennis Wise. Neither are popular choices either but would probably do a decent job.

According to a representative at Skybet, people were trying to put four figure sums on Strachan. That's a lot of wishful thinking - or some inside knowledge.

It may be that people misinterpretted WGS's visit to Staplewood I guess.

You're right though - it doesn't take much money to shift the odds. Maybe a grand on Adams would have been enough to put him to evens.

Yes, you may well be right, it's only the bookies who will know for sure though a 100 of us could put a £1 on Hoddle and see what happens!

Also as you say it is likely to be mainly bets from this part of the country hence my comment, only partly tongue in cheek, that it could be a few hundred Skates fans jumping on the band wagon and deciding it's worth a few quid to wind us up !

One thing is sure and that is the bookies will be by far the biggest winner whoever is appointed!

Fortunately, that Daily Star article looks to have been written by someone who has been looking at the bookies odds and decided to draw conclusions.

I would imagine if the Daily Star had any concrete knowledge, they wouldn't have to have padded the article out with stuff about Mark Wotte.

It would be a huge mistake to install a failure (in management) like Adams. I think Gus Poyet would be a good shout, not much experience in the management position himself, but he did seem to be the brains of the operation when he was with Wise a

It will be Boothroyd.

I'd be happy with that - good 'young' manager, who has the ability to grow with a club if given the backing and support. I can see him being the type of manager to work within a DoF structure too.

I guess we'll see tomorrow (i hope...)

I'm not sure we will hear anything by tomorrow regarding who the new manager will be. Would have thought it will be around Thursday.

Darren Ferguson has appeared for the first time in the market at 12/1. Odd anyone would bet on him as he has just signed a new contract at Peterborough in the last few days.

never, EVER going to happen.

He will be the next big manager IMO. He's done wondeers at Posh, and has just signed a new extension so no way jose.
